Annual Report

7/1/2011-6/31/2012

Serving Local Youth A Message from Leadership Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada is proud to continue serving children in the Reno, Sparks, Washoe County, Carson City, Minden, and Gardnerville communities. We continue to reach out to hundreds of children in need, ages 6 -19, who benefit from the generosity of volunteer mentors and the contributions of many individual donors, private foundations, and grant awards. We know from our local and national outcomes that a stable, caring adult makes an enormous difference in the life of a child who yearns for inspiration, encouragement, and compassion. Our agency is so fortunate to find and retain the commitment of “Big Brothers” and “Big Sisters” who carve out the time to provide the friendship and emotional support to children who might otherwise be alone in their efforts to succeed in school, in social relationships, and in their future endeavors. Thank you for taking the time to read our Fiscal Year Report. It’s a privilege to introduce the faces of many “Littles” currently matched with mentors. Consider becoming a “BIG”, donating to our agency, or volunteering to help us. We are committed to continuing our programs and making a difference in the lives of children, every day and forever.

Success Stories Graduates from High School 89% of our age-eligible “Littles” completed high school in 2012. A few of these outstanding young adults recently posed for a graduation photo. Pictured are left to right: Joe, Silvia, Lisa, Jon-Luke, Chase.

A Match Story Davis and Alex have been matched since 2010. Davis’s mother wanted a positive male role model in Alex’s life to help him cope with his anger issues. For the last 2 years, Davis and Alex have played lots of sports, visited the computer lab, and have laughed A LOT! Big Brother Alex is dedicated and has yet to miss even one weekly visit with Davis. Davis’s teacher has noticed his improved sportsmanship and classroom behavior. Davis often cried and now seems much happier. Before being matched he was a below-average student and now achieved all A’s and B’s! The dynamic duo is still together and will continue to have fun and laugh A LOT!
