Narrator: This is a story about Papa Monkey, Mama Monkey, and Little Monkey. They live in the jungle. This story is about a girl too. Her name is Bella Ella and she is visiting the jungle with her parents. Papa Monkey: I am Papa Monkey. I built our jungle house out of leaves. I am a very good cook! Mama Monkey: I am Mama Monkey. I swing from tree to tree on the long vines. I find good food for my family. Little Monkey: I am Little Monkey. I like to walk and play and run along the river path. Bella Ella: Don’t forget me! I am Bella Ella. I see some big, red flowers along that path. I think I’ll walk there right now.

Narrator: Bella Ella follows the jungle path. The Monkeys are at home. Papa Monkey: It’s time to eat. I made some tasty banana pancakes for you. Little Monkey: There is only one for each of us. Papa, may we each have another one? Papa Monkey: I don’t have any more bananas. Let’s walk to the banana tree. Mama can swing up to pick bananas at the tops of the trees. We will walk along the river path. Mama Monkey: That’s a fine idea! I will pick ripe bananas. Yum! I’m sure they will taste good. Little Monkey: The river path is fun because I can splash in the water. Do you mind if I get muddy, Mama?

Mama Monkey: I don’t mind at all. Do you know why, Little Monkey? Little Monkey: I know why, Mama. Today is bath day. After breakfast, we will all wash up. Mama Monkey: That’s right, Little Monkey. Let’s go. Little Monkey: Wait, Papa and Mama! Should we lock the door? Papa Monkey: It is very early in the morning. No one will visit us now. Narrator: The family hurries away. But soon a visitor comes. Bella Ella: Wow! This is a surprise! Here’s a house made of leaves. The door is unlocked so I can just go inside.

Narrator: When Bella Ella sees the pancakes, she becomes hungry. She tries them all. Bella Ella: This big pancake is dry. This medium pancake is mushy. This small pancake is just right. Oh, no! I ate it all up. Narrator: Let’s see what the Monkey family is doing. Little Monkey: Mama, you picked a lot of bananas. Papa and I will carry them all the way home.

Mama Monkey: Please don’t drop even one banana. I am so hungry. I can’t wait to eat more banana pancakes. Papa Monkey: When we get home, I will cook more pancakes right away. Narrator: Back at the house, Bella Ella finds three tubs filled with water. Bella Ella: I need a bath. This big tub is too cold. This medium tub is too hot. This small tub is just right. Oh, no! I splashed water all over. Narrator: The monkeys are coming home. They are hungry and dirty. Papa Monkey: I can’t wait for bath time. I need to scrub my feet. Mama Monkey: I love baths. My fur feels so soft and clean after a bath. The soap makes me smell like roses.

Little Monkey: My tummy is empty. We always eat our breakfast first. Let’s walk faster! Narrator: At the house, Bella Ella finds a bedroom upstairs. Bella Ella: Now I feel tired. This big bed is lumpy. This medium bed is scratchy. This small bed is just right! Narrator: At last, the monkeys come home. They become very unhappy! Papa Monkey: Someone took a bite out of my big pancake. Mama Monkey: I’m so very hungry, but my plate is half empty. Someone was eating my medium pancake. Little Monkey: Look! My small pancake is all gone!

Papa Monkey: Someone has used my tub. The water is soapy. Mama Monkey: Oh, no! Someone used mine too. The washcloth is wet. Little Monkey: My tub is empty. Water is all over the floor! Papa Monkey: Someone was in my bed. Mama Monkey: Someone was in mine too. Little Monkey: Look! She is still in my bed! Bella Ella: Eek! Let me out!
