3. Fun In the Sun: Summer Bass Fishing

The summer months are here once again. They provide you with numerous opportunities to enjoy the sun and the waters as well. While many people, young and old alike, plan their outings and vacations, the bass fishermen take these months as the opportune chance to go summer bass fishing. Indeed, it is considered to be the most perfect time to catch this fish species.

Bass Fish's Behavior Described:

As a fact, the bass fish doesn't stop feeding in the summer season. The bass feeds more often during the warm months and it is also due to the fact that it is able to digest its food much faster in the warmer temperatures. There is this myth that fishing can slow down during the summer. Well, to dispel such notion, there are two reasons that hinder success in summer fishing. First of all, fishermen normally spend less time in the waters because of the hot summer sun. Second, some fishermen must surely have heard of this myth and are already less confident about going out into the waters.

The bass fish actually don't need to wait for the water temperatures to go 60 degrees or so just so they will turn active. You don't necessarily have to direct your boat to as deep as 45-50 feet of water. During the warm months, the bass stays close to about 10 up to 12 feet deep of water. That can then be your target.

As compared to how the bass fish behaves during the cold months, they are much less lethargic in the summer heat. That means you can fish fast. Just be conscious of the right kind of lure to use. Utilize the crank baits that are specially made for the depths of water that you plan to fish on and never use the spinner baits or buzz baits as they can be deadly during this season. When fishing in the evening, use the poppers and plugs.

A Quick Tip for Anglers:

Because the heat of the sun can truly be damaging for you, it is best to take a couple of vital precautions. If you plan to stay longer under the heat of the sun, be sure to drink lots of water. Take a bottle or jug of water with you. Wear the loose fitting clothing that can cover you up. The cotton material is much preferred. Use a hat that can cover the back of your neck. You don't want to get sunburned!

TIP! It can be difficult to mute the sounds of a small metal boat as you try to fish, eat, and relax. One great way to muffle some of the noise is to place a small, cheap rug or carpet on the floor of your boat.

Go out and enjoy summer bass fishing. By following these tips, you will definitely have a great time doing this water activity!

4. Bass Fishing Tournaments: What You Need to Know

Bass fishing has evolved so much from where it used to be. Right now, it is a multi-billion dollar industry, and is considered to be one of the more popular sport and favorite past time and leisure activity by most Americans today. The progress and popularity that the bass fishing sport has garnered has created a lot of different opportunities for people to showcase their skill, talent and technical know-how about bass fishing as a sport. This is one of the reasons why there are already a lot of different bass fishing tournaments today.

Although generally, bass fishing tournaments are considered to be a very competitive sport, it is still something that the entire family can get into. If you are just a beginner bass angler, and do not have a clue as to what goes on in a bass fishing tournament, then you are in luck. This article will discuss everything that you might need to know about bass fishing tournaments to help you understand it better, and maybe one day, you can prepare yourself well enough to actually join in the fray.

Do You Need Your Own Gear?

Ideally, you need to have your own bass fishing gear in order to be able to participate in this type of tournament. Just imagine you joining a basketball competition with no shoes on. A bass fishing gear is a necessary element for you to have in order to be able to actually fish and catch some bass fish. However, if you do not really have any gear, but still want to participate in the tournament, you can probably rent out some bass fishing gear from your local fishing equipment store. Just keep in mind that having your own gear would mean that you can modify and prepare your specifications on your gear to fit your type of bass fishing technique and style.

Do You Need Your Own Boat?

You actually do not need to own your own boat. If you don't have a boat, then you could actually get assigned to partner up with an angler who does have his very own boat. You simply need to register yourself as a non-boater, and you would be paired up with a registered boater. Once you are assigned to a boater, you need to make sure that you give the owner of the boat some gas money as a sign of common courtesy, as well as some money for the wear and tear that their boat might experience during the tournament.

Do You Need To Enter A Club?

TIP! Unless you are a young child, there is no excuse not to bait your own hook. Every fisherman must understand this part of fishing, as there is nothing more annoying than being asked constantly to bait someone else's hook.

Registering with a bass fishing club is not that difficult to do, and if you could, try to register with a club so you can always have a partner during these tournaments. This is important in your case, especially since you don't have a boat of your own. Once you are registered in your local club, you can easily get a partner in your local club rank tournaments.

Is This A Family Affair?

The bass fishing sport and tournament can actually be an activity that your entire family can enjoy together. You can get your son to tag along with you, and you both can work as a team, giving you an opportunity to compete, as well as bond with your son at the same time.

Do You Need To Train For This Type Of Tournament?

Training is not necessarily the right term for this, but you do need to learn the basics about bass fishing, and you need to practice it whenever you can. Although some hardcore bass fishing competitors do actually train for these competitions, mainly so they can handle a fairly strong bass fish, you actually do not have to do so yourself. Keep in mind that this tournament actually pits you against the fish, and not you against other competitors.

How Much Would Entering A Bass Fishing Tournament Cost You?

Depending on what you need, it could cost you a considerable amount of money, especially if you do not have any gear as of yet. You need to invest some money in buying a decent and reliable bass fishing gear so that you can perform to the best of your ability. Having a mediocre set of bass fishing gear is basically the same as having little to no skill in bass fishing.

5. The Big Game Fish: Large Mouth And Small Mouth Bass

Bass fishing has become a multi-million dollar industry today, and a lot of it has something to do with the two species of game fish that has been the subject of the sport, namely, the largemouth and small mouth bass fish. These two game fishes are some of the most well studied species of bass, mostly due to their role and importance in the sport of bass fishing. In order for you to understand why they are so influential and important in the angling sport and business, you need to know more about these two types of bass.

Small Mouth Bass Physical Description

Although small mouth bass is named as such, they actually possess a large mouth for a fish of their size, and their upper jaw could actually extend all the way up to the middle of their eye which is red in color. They are generally brown in color, and have vertical bands running along their bodies. The small mouth bass actually exhibits the physical traits and characteristics of a carnivorous fish, such as a streamlined body built for swimming, enigmatic coloration which is perfect for ambushing its prey, and a large sized mouth, especially for its size.

The females of this particular species of bass are relatively bigger than the males, wherein the female small mouth bass fish may grow from a minimum of 3 pounds to over 6 pounds in weight. Usually, those small mouth bass fishes found in

American waters are believed to be larger than the others since they have the opportunity to eat for a longer period of time due to the long summers, allowing them to grow for longer periods of time as well.

Large Mouth Bass Physical Description

The big mouth bass' physical make up is basically similar to that of the small mouth bass, but with just a few differences, such as having jagged horizontal black stripes instead of bands at the flanks of their bodies, and having a much larger sized mouth, which generally extends further than the bass' orbit. This game fish has an olive green color, and is believed to be the largest of the black bass species.

Small mouth Bass Forage

Small mouth bass, even as a fingerling, already forage on small crustaceans, such as shrimps and scuds, small fishes, and insects as well, and continues on to feed on much bigger prey, such as bigger fishes and crayfishes, as they grow bigger into adulthood.
