Welcome to a summer of marvelous musical delights here on the Maine coast. Bay Chamber’s 2015 Summer Concert Series offers a dazzling array of acclaimed artists playing repertoire we all love, musical curiosities, new music and the world premiere of a new Bay Chamber Concerts commission, Marriage Suites.

Bay Chamber Concerts & Music School is all about connecting people through music. Whether it’s the shared experience of an audience engaging with performers at a concert; a student and teacher celebrating the student's emerging mastery of the instrument; or a community coming together to give everyone the opportunity to hear and play music—at the heart is bringing people together. The Summer Concert Series brims with returning artists and ensembles including Brooklyn Rider, Latitude 41, Decoda, James Austin Smith, Geoff Nuttall, Christopher Costanza, Livia Sohn, and Alessio Bax. We’re also introducing some new highly gifted musicians including spectacular soprano Julia Bullock, violinist Bella Hristova, Aeolus Quartet, Trio con Brio Copenhagen, and clarinetist Alexander Fiterstein. There are so many remarkable performers and enchanting programs on Thursday evenings at the historic Rockport Opera House and Friday evenings in intimate Union Hall. So whether you’re a local resident or a visitor from away enjoying a Maine summer sojourn, I’d like to welcome you to the 2015 Bay Chamber Summer Concert Series. Friday Night Café Series Thursday Night Series The weekly anchor and musical jewel of our summer program takes place in the historic Rockport Opera House. A renowned summer institution in Rockport for over half a century, the Thursday Night Series offers an opportunity to hear some of the world’s finest classical musicians in a beautiful traditional setting. All performances have assigned seating and begin at 7:30.

Nighttime concerts in lovely Union Hall offer even more interactive and adventurous musical experiences, often including lighter repertoire. Here you can experience great music while sipping select wines. Shows start at 6pm or 9pm making these performances the perfect pre- or post-dinner events. Young Bulgarian violin virtuoso Bella Hristova, “cellist of extraordinary technical and musical gifts” (San Francisco Chronicle) Joshua Roman, and superb pianist Renate Rohlfing come together for the first time to play much loved piano trio repertoire by Schubert. The trio is joined by the incandescent soprano Julia Bullock, who will open and close the program with timeless odes to music.

An eminent piano trio plays three exceptional works: Shostakovich’s early C Minor trio, Ravel’s virtuosic masterpiece, and Arensky’s ardent musical dedication to the memory of the legendary Russian cellist, Karl Davidoff.

Beethoven’s D Major trio is bookended by two Danish trios that compellingly combine spare textures, ambiguous rhythms and sublimated Romantic fervor.

Jazz on the Water Creative Ensemble Collective As an overture to our Summer Festival (Wednesday, August 19—Sunday, August 23, see separate brochure for full details), we’re presenting a FREE outdoor jazz performance in picturesque Rockport Marine Park.
