Introduction

Introduction

Areas of content within the CSXQ:

The College Student Expectations Questionnaire (CSXQ) assesses new student goals and motivations.

Background: demographics, expected grades, expected major.

New students hold important expectations about how and with whom they will spend their time in college. These expectations provide clues about how they will interact with peers and faculty members, behaviors that directly affect achievement and satisfaction with college. Institutions also have expectations for student performance.

Library and Information Technology: Experiences with Faculties; Course Learning; Writing; Campus Facilities; Clubs, Organizations, Service Projects; Student Acquaintances; Scientific and Quantitative Experiences; Topics of Conversation; Information in Conversations; Reading and Writing.

The CSXQ includes questions about college activities and several items for students to indicate beliefs about the campus environment.

College Environment: Seven of the rating scales refer to the extent to which the environment emphasizes scholarly, intellectual, and practical activities. These are seven-point rating scales. The remaining three rating scales refer to relationships with students, faculty members, and administrative offices and personnel.

In addition, the CSXQ asks students to provide information on their background such as demographics, expected grades, expected major, and so on. Finally, institutions may attach additional questions written locally to meet the needs for specific program or institutional assessment.

Additional Questions: The last page of the questionnaire contains a space for up to 20 additional questions, written locally, with five response options for each item. 3
