Clinker production process The main processes at Norcem Kjøpsvik are: * Extraction of limestone from a mine (open pit) nearby the production plant. * Correction materials (quartz and iron oxide) are added to the limestone. * The mix is ground and burned at high temperatures (1450 oC) to clinker. * Clinker is ground and fly ash and smaller amounts of gypsum, limestone and iron sulphate are added to the cement.

Allocation The allocation is made in accordance with the provisions of EN 15804. Incoming energy and water and waste production in-house production is allocated equally among all products through mass allocation. Effects of primary production of recycled materials allocated to the main product in which the material was used. The recycling process and transportation of the material is allocated to this analysis. Cut-off criteria All major raw materials and all the essential energy is included. Reading example: 9,0 E-03 = 9,0*10 -3 = 0,009 Figure 1 shows GWP emissions divided on sources. The FIgure shows that the Process, clinker oven gives the largest contributions to greenhouse gas impacts. This is due to two aspects: the heating of limestone releases CO 2, as well as the burning of fossil fuels to achieve the high kiln temperature required.
