Clinker production process The main processes at Norcem Brevik are: * Extraction of limestone from two fields near the production plant: Dalen mine and Bjørntvet open quarry, in addition open quarry in Verdal. * Correction materials (quartz, iron oxide and aluminium oxide) are added to limestone. * The mix is ground and burned at high temperatures (1450 oC) to clinker. * Clinker is ground and smaller amounts of gypsum, limestone, iron sulphate and fly ash are added.

LCA: Results The analysis includes the declared unit from raw material extraction to factory gate in addition to a scenario for transport to market. In module A1 included production of raw materials from extraction of resources. A2 includes transport of raw materials to the production facility at Norcem Brevik. Figure 1 shows GWP emissions divided on sources. The Figure shows that Process, klinker oven gives the largest contributions to greenhouse gas impacts. This is due to two aspects: the heating of limestone releases CO 2, as well as the burning of fossil fuels to achieve the high kiln temperature required.
