It is a not-for-profit community service group with a core set of services and business operations that support the multicultural communities and the disadvantaged in the region. Diversitat commenced operation in Geelong in 1976 and was known as the Geelong Migrant Resource Centre, which later changed its name to Geelong Ethnic Communities Council and now trades as Diversitat.
