Energy Saving Lamps Ease Global Warming Lighting is a basic necessity, therefore, the greater use of Energy Saving Lamps is considered to be the quickest and simplest option for reaching the state of carbon neutral. When comparing with incandescent bulbs, Energy Saving Lamps deliver incredible lighting performance while consuming 80% less power, and generating 80% less CO2 as a result. Moreover, Energy Saving Lamps emit much less heat than incandescent bulbs, which contributes to the reduction in energy consumption from air-conditioning, thus, further reduces CO2 emission that causes global warming. In Australia lighting represents around 12 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions from households and around 25 per cent of emissions from the commercial sector. The Australian Government recognises that this is an area where energy savings can be easily made by replacing inefficient incandescent lights with more cost-effective and energy efficient compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs). Australian Phase-out of inefficient incandescent light bulbs The Australian Government will gradually phase out all inefficient incandescent light bulbs between 2008 and 2015. They have starting with the traditional pearshaped incandescent bulbs (GLS) with retail sales ban from November 2009 and mains voltage halogen nonreflector and ELV halogen reflector lamps November 2010. For more details on phase-out schedule refer to: http://www.environment.gov.au The Australian Government is targeting any light bulbs that have an efficiency level of less than 15 lumens per watt (lm/w). (Lumens (lm) are a measure of light output and watts (w) are a measure of energy input.) At the same time as retail sales ban from November 2009, AS/NZS 4847.2(Int):2008 a MEPS for compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) will also be introduced to ensure that only high quality CFLs are sold in Australia. The CFL MEPS is necessary to ensure consumers are satisfied with the performance of CFLs and that they become the preferred lamp choice wherever possible. MEGAMAN® complies with MEPS which includes starting time, run-up time, luminous flux, efficacy and lumen maintenance, power, power factor and harmonics, premature lamp failure rate, low temperature starting, switching withstand, lamp life, colour attributes, and mercury content.

MEGAMAN® LIGHTING AUSTRALIA

DIMMER COMPATIBILITY Operating Megaman DimmerABLE lamp range All Megaman CFL are precision engineered for maximum performance. However a few guidelines need to be followed to optimum performance of our DimmerABLE range of CFL’s 1) Each time when switching lamps on and prior to dimming, please run lamps at maximum brightness for 1-2 minutes. This allows the internal gases within the lamp to stabilise and enables the electronics within the lamp to dim the output with the aid of the dimmer. 2)

Once the lamp has warmed up, slowly dim lamp to required level in a smooth manner.

3) Lamp is designed to allow its candela output to be reduced to a minimum of 10%. Dimmers fitted with a potentiometer are able to be set with a minimum and maximum point. Dimmers that do not have a potentiometer will require some guess work to know exactly where each point is. 4) Note: Megaman DimmerABLE Lamps are not designed to be dimmed to 0%. This can drastically reduce the performance and life of lamp. A CFL requires a current to be able to operate. 5)

Lowering the lamp brightness will further reduce the power consumption, making the lamps even

more economical to run.

Load Rating

The wattage of the Dimmerable lamp should not fall below 1/6 the wattage of the minimum load and should not exceed 1/5 the maximum load of the dimmer switch.

Minimum Load

•If the minimum wattage load of the dimmer switch is 60W, the minimum wattage of the Dimmerable lamp(s) required should be at least 10W (60W x 1/6) or the minimum load recommended by the dimmer manufacturer, whichever is higher.

Maximum Load

•If the maximum wattage load of the same dimmer switch is 450W, the maximum wattage of Dimmerable lamps allowed should not exceed 90W (450W x 1/5). Eg. 8 x 11w lamps or 10 x 9w lamps. Megaman uses eco-friendly manufacturing processes ®

The silicone protection sleeve replaces traditional frosting methods that uses toxic acid to etch the surface of the glass cover. Environmentally friendly water-based phosphor coating is used. Mechanical assembly of lamps with “snap-in” method eases the dismantling process for recycling. Water-based adhesive replaces the use of glue to prevent emission of odour during production and toxic gas during operation. The recyclable plastic lamp base prevents harmful soldering on the lamp base.

Installation of Snap Ring In order to facilitate retrofit on all fixtures for the CFL AR111, an aluminium snap-in ring is available for use when necessary. Please see the following diagram for installation.

Step 1

Step 2 Position the snap-in ring onto the bottom of the lamp, then slowly move the ring towards the rim of the lamp.

Carefully insert the lamp onto the fixture. Ensure the clamps on the side of the fixture hold the lamp sercurely in position.

Make sure the ring is securely intact with the lamp.

Removal of Snap Ring Step 1

Remove the lamp from the fixture

Step 2

Carefully remove the snap-in ring from the lamp with the tips of your fingers. Gently slide the ring towards the bottom of the lamp to remove.

MELBOURNE’S CORNER HOTEL The Corner Hotel, the landmark in Swan Street Richmond, has reduced its CO2 emissions by 49 tonnes per annum by retrofitting it’s lighting to new energy efficient lighting and using Megaman’s 18 Watt PAR38 linear dimming CFL’s in warm white. Megaman’s smooth dimming from 100% to 10% saves energy when dimmed and it’s long life was selected replacing inefficient halogens. The retrofit efficient lighting project was recently completed in 2009 by EnviroBrite as part of the Victorian Government’s Sustainability Fund, Eco Lighting for Victorian Business. The Eco Lighting project was designed to encourage businesses to assess the amount of energy they consume for lighting and demonstrate how energy consumption can be reduced through adopting the latest energy saving lighting technologies.

GIORDANO Retail apparel brand Giordano is providing both greener lighting solutions and warmer comfortable shopping space to customers with Megaman efficient lighting solutions. The change to Megaman meant complying to Building Code Australia (BCA) requirements of 25W/m2 and reducing energy consumption for new stores and retrofitting existing locations. HAIR BY LEX New hair salon design moves to total energy saving Megaman solution. Hair by LEX were seeking better colour rendering and reduced heat from lighting for a better working environment for staff and customers. A key design factor was to comply to the new Building Code of Australian (BCA) regulations J6, maximum Watts per meter square.
