DEFINITIONS
In these Criteria, the following words have the following respective meanings: “ Criteria”
Means this Selection Criteria Supplement.
“ Selection Procedures Bylaw”
Means the Bylaw adopted by the Board of AC that governs the selection of Athletes to Australian Canoeing Teams.
“Under 23”
Means an Athlete born on or after 1 January 1994
Words not defined in these Criteria have the meaning ascribed to them in the Constitution of AC or the Selection Procedures Bylaw unless a contrary meaning appears from the context.

SELECTION PROCEDURES 2.1. SELECTION PANEL In accordance with clause 4.1 of the Bylaw, the Selection Panel members are:

2.2. ELIGIBILITY 2.2.1. Athletes must comply with the Bylaw, in particular clause 5. 2.2.2. Athletes must provide the information outlined in clause 5.1 to AC by no later than 9 March 2017. 2.3. SQUAD/TEAM NOMINATION 2.3.1. The competitions for which an Australian Canoe Marathon Under 23 Team will be selected for in 2017 are: (a) 2017 ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships to be held in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa – 5 to 10 September 2017. (b) other ICF competitions as determined by AC and notified to Athletes prior to the competitions. 2.3.2. To nominate for the team Athletes must: a) log into the AC database via teams.canoe.org.au using their AC membership details;
b) nominate as an Athlete to the relevant team and categories, filling out all required information to the best of their knowledge; and c) pay the $70 nomination fee prior to the start of selection events. 2.3.3. A list of nominations will be published via teams.canoe.org.au 2.4.
SELECTION EVENTS/TRIALS
2.4.1. The Selection Event an athlete must compete in should they wish to be considered for the Team is the a) 2017 Australian Canoe Marathon Championships on 10 to 12 March 2017 at SIRC, Penrith, NSW, or b) a date and a venue as announced by AC should the championships be cancelled or postponed due to unforeseen circumstances 2.4.2. To be selected to the Team to compete at the 2017 ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships athlete must be available to tour with the Team between 31 August to 10 September 2017. 2.5. 2.5.1.
SELECTION CRITERIA The Selection Panel appointed by the Board of AC pursuant to clause 4.1 of the AC Selection Procedures By-Law may select a maximum of two (2) Athletes or Crews in each of the following Classes to the Team:Under 23 Men K1 (b) Under 23 Men C1 (c) Under 23 Women K1
2.5.2.
Subject to clause 5.5, an Under 23 Male Athlete will be selected in K1 from the nominated Athletes if they win the applicable K1 Class at the Selection Event, or if they finish within four (4) minutes of the winning Under 23 Men K1 time. Should more than two (2) Athletes satisfy this clause, the highest placed Athletes will be selected.
2.5.3.
Subject to clause 5.5, an Under 23 Female Athlete will be selected in K1 from the nominated Athletes if they win the applicable K1 Class at the Selection Event, or if they finish within four (4) minutes of the winning Under 23 Women K1 time. Should more than two (2) Athletes satisfy this clause, the highest placed Athletes will be selected.
2.5.4.
Subject to clause 5.5, an Under 23 Male Athlete will be selected in C1 from the nominated Athletes if they win the applicable C1 Class at the Selection Event, or if they finish within four (4) minutes of the winning Under 23 Men C1 time. Should more than two (2) Athletes satisfy this clause, the highest placed Athletes will be selected.

2.5.5.
In selection for the 2017 Australian Canoe Marathon Team, no nominated Athlete will be selected to fill a Class in which they have not met the required selection Criteria for that Class.
2.5.6.
Where the number of Athletes selected in a Class is less than the number of available places in that Class, the Selection Panel may, in its sole discretion, select the next highest ranked Athlete in that class following the Selection Event. The Selection Panel may in its sole discretion consider any factors they deem necessary in order to select the athletes including: a) the margin an Athlete finished outside of the allowed percentage.
NOTE: An Under 23 Athlete seeking selection in K2 or C2 must nominate and compete in Senior (Open) Classes at the Selection Event. 2.6.
EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES
2.6.1. For the purposes of determining whether an Athlete has met the requirements of this Selection
