AUSTRALIAN AEROSPACE INDUSTRY CAPABILITY DIRECTORY EDITION 1

FOREWORD Welcome to the “Australian Aerospace Industry Capability Directory”. Australia has a long history of technical innovation in the aerospace industry and plays an important role in the global supply chain for both civil and defence sectors.

of an exhaustive mapping exercise undertaken in early 2014. The directory will be updated on an ongoing basis, and you are encouraged to contact your local Austrade representatives for the most up-todate version.

As the peak body responsible for the aviation and aerospace industry, Aviation/Aerospace Australia is proud to have partnered with the Australian Trade Commission to provide this important tool to assist companies and government agencies outside of Australia to find appropriate suppliers and trade partners.

Section one of the directory is a matrix that provides an “at a glance” summary of all service providers and their core capabilities, with section two providing a one-page overview of each of the individual companies/organisations represented.

The directory has been developed to provide an up-to-date representation of Australia’s capabilities of aerospace related companies and organisations based in Australia. It is the result

Microair

Company Overview Microair is an electronics design and manufacturing company, which has been trading since 2000, producing its own aircraft radio. Microair has a strong electronics design team, and in 2001 produced an aircraft radar transponder to complement its radio. In 2002 an altitude encoder was designed to work with the transponder. From 2003 Microair has designed and produced several specialized versions of its transponder. The most significant of these transponders is a version purpose designed, for use in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV’s). In 2005 Microair expanded its Bundaberg factory to better cope with the increasing demands on the design and manufacturing services. The upgrade increased Microair’s manufacturing space by more than 50%. Microair has designed and manufactured projects as diverse as VHF transceivers, air pressure sensors and agricultural and industrial remote monitoring equipment. All project management is strictly controlled through Microair’s Quality System.

The Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has approved Microair’s Quality System. Microair’s T2000SFL aircraft transponder was the first piece of Australian made avionics equipment to achieve Australian Technical Standing Order (ATSO) approval. Microair has extended recognition of this approval to include EASA (Europe) and the FAA (USA). Microair exports approximately 70% of its product to over 40 countries around the world. Microair has established import and export systems, to allow for fast and efficient distribution of manufactured products.

Concept design and prototype manufacture

Seabird Aviation Australia Pty Ltd (SEABIRD) has designed, developed and certificated the SB7L-360 Seeker-2 (SEEKER), a multi-role utility aircraft so as to achieve optimum effectiveness, performance and safety in low level observation tasks. A result of thousands of hours of tough military patrol, surveillance and training operations, the Australian designed and manufactured SEEKER is now available for commercial and private use.
For commercial use, with operating costs a third that of the helicopter equivalent, the SEEKER provides an efficient and cost-effective alternative for power and pipeline inspection, coast watch, environmental and stock monitoring, aerial photography and security where VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) is not mission essential. The Seeker’s visibility is unrivalled by any other fixed-wing aircraft and is superior to many helicopters.
For the private owner, the SEEKER provides a safe and enlightening flying experience not available in conventional fixed wing aircraft.
