German Trade Fair Association Founded in 1907, AUMA represents all partners in the German trade fair industry, whether exhibitors, visitors, organisers or service companies. In the service of its members, it endeavours to ensure that: r trade fairs are the number one marketing instrument for the exhibiting and visiting industry, r Germany as a trade fair venue remains world leader with its international events, r trade fairs abroad organised by German companies play a leading role. AUMA's principal responsibility is to strengthen German trade fairs both within Germany and abroad. To this end, AUMA promotes the quality of German trade fairs by creating market transpa-

rency, by supporting the cooperation of market partners, by sharing information and experience among its members and with projects involving members. In particular, AUMA supports the market activities of German medium-sized companies regarding their participation in trade fairs both in Germany and abroad.

AUMA represents the interests of the trade fair industry vis-à-vis the legislative and executive bodies at the federal and state levels as well as the EU level, particularly with respect to promoting sales and exports, sustainability, as well as matters relating to tax, building and employment law. What's more, it helps to bridge the gap between the interests of exhibitors, visitors and organisers. It builds relationships to foreign and international trade fair organisations. AUMA is a member of UFI – the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry. It works alongside groups from other organisations within the trade fair industry, including the organisers’ associations IDFA and FAMA. AUMA occupies a permanent seat at the meetings of the German federal/state committees for domestic and foreign trade fairs.

Advice and information AUMA provides information on dates, services, exhibitor and visitor numbers of domestic and foreign trade fairs to help exhibitors and visitors from around the world in their decisions regarding their participation in trade fairs. AUMA offers data on over 5000 events in its international trade fair database at t auma.de, which is available in four languages. It provides publications on trade fair dates and tips for participating in trade fairs. The management of the Society for Voluntary Control of Trade Fair and Exhibition Statistics (FKM) resides at AUMA.

Coordinating foreign trade fair activities of German businesses In selecting foreign trade fair participations of the German Federal Ministries for Economic Affairs and Energy and of Food and Agriculture, AUMA coordinates the interests of German businesses. It supports the Ministries in the implementation of their foreign trade fair programmes. These programmes primarily benefit small and mediumsized businesses in their efforts to access foreign markets by organising joint company representations at trade fairs abroad. AUMA helps its members to market their trade fairs abroad with the calendar »German Trade Fair Quality Abroad« and through special identification in the AUMA trade fair database.
