An important message •

Dancers must present a signed Dancer & Parent Agreement form and a parent-initialed Company Policies form BEFORE THEY WILL BE ADMITTED TO THE AUDITION. These forms are included in this booklet.

The company season runs September through September of the following year. Dancers are required to commit to the entire season of 12 months.

Dancers who are not selected this season should not assume that they are not future company material.

Results will be posted on the studio Facebook page, www.facebook.com/TranscenDanceStudios.

A mandatory meeting for all company dancers and parents—new and returning—will be held Sunday, September 25, from 6 to 7

PM.

Petites and Minis dancers need not attend, but parents are required to attend.

Rehearsals will begin Sunday, September 25.

Because they represent TranscenDance Studios to the community, and training elsewhere results in scheduling conflicts, Company members should train only at TDS. Participation in school dance teams—Orchesis, Drill, Cheer and Poms—and pre-approved summer intensives that do not conflict with rehearsals or required technique classes is allowed.

Audition date and times •

All auditions will be held on September 17, 2016.

About TranscenDance Studios’ companies •

Hip Hop TransFuzion, TransRhythm Tap, Jazz TransAxion, and Acro Team are youth companies for highly motivated dancers of intermediate through professional levels, ages 10 through 19.

TDS Minis and Acro Minis are youth companies for promising young dancers, beginning through intermediate levels, ages 7 through 10. TDS Minis perform in two styles—tap and jazz/hip hop. Acro Minis perform acrobatic dance routines.

TDS Petites is our new team for dancers ages 5 and 6 who love to dance. TDS Petites will perform in two styles—tap and jazz/hip hop.

TDS youth companies are for dancers interested in additional performance opportunities, taking their technique to the next level, and having lots of fun in a supportive team atmosphere. TranscenDance Studios is home to youth companies Hip Hop TransFuzion, Jazz TransAxion, TransRhythm Tap and Acro Team, as well as apprentice companies HHTF2, JTA2 TRT2, Acro Team 2; TDS Minis (jazz/hip hop/tap), Acro Minis; and and our youngest company. TDS Youth companies are dedicated to promoting and presenting dance to the public through performance, production, and educational opportunities, as well as further Innovation of the art form, to carry the dance community into a new generation. We strive to transcend the norm. Companies favorite annual events include competitions, McDonald’s Thanksgiving Parade on State Street, Reggio McLaughlin’s Nuttapper, Dance Fest at Six Flags/Great America, Oak Park’s Independence Day Parade, Dance In the Parks, and the WNBA Chicago Sky Pregame. Consistently winning high awards at competitions, our dancers are recognized for their teamwork and performance skills, as well as their dedication to community. Membership in a TDS company requires a full year commitment, from September through September. No one will be admitted to audition without the signed forms contained in the Audition Info & Season Policy booklet.

About our director CAIT JONES-SEEBACHER FOUNDING DIRECTOR TranscenDance Studios • TransRhythm Tap Hip Hop TransFuzion • Jazz TransAxion • Acro Team TDS Minis • Acro Minis • TDS Petites

“[One of Chicago’s] hot new choreographers we’re sure you’ll dig.” —SeeChicagoDance.com

“Cait Jones... is talented, beautiful, and has great stage presence.” —Dance Magazine

“Cait Jones is the real deal.” —Dancer Universe Magazine

Cait began as a dancer in youth ensembles—Footprints Tap Ensemble and Forum Jazz Dance Theatre. After dancing with Chicago Tap Theatre, receiving multiple scholarships, including Giordano Dance Center, and touring the Netherlands and the eastern coast of the United States, Cait founded and currently directs TranscenDance Studios in Oak Park, Illinois, and its multi-faceted youth company program. An avid choreographer, Cait’s work has been seen at Happy Feet and Fame movie promotions, industrials at Rotary International Headquarters, the Shedd Aquarium, Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art, The Venetian in Las Vegas, and television commercials. She has also choreographed promotional videos for Lawson Products, theater productions for College of Lake County, and works for multiple concerts such as Dance Chicago, Chicago Human Rhythm Project, Dance For Life, and the Russian International Dance Collaboration. Cait’s work has won top awards at dance competitions and has placed within the top five in state for local dance teams. Cait currently teaches at her studio, TranscenDance Studios, as well as Talent Forum, the studio at which she grew up. Cait is also the Artistic Director of Footprints Tap Ensemble, a renowned youth tap company, in which she has been involved with for over 18 years. Over the years, she has been contracted at dozens of studios for teaching positions spanning multiple seasons, as well as a guest instructor for workshops and intensives. With a passion for the business side of dance and a love for teaching, Cait began TransRhythm Tap in January 2008. Less than a year and a half later, she founded TranscenDance Studios and additional youth company, Hip Hop TransFuzion. She launched Jazz TransAxion in October 2010 and TDS Minis in 2011. Acro Team was formed in January 2013 and Acro Minis debuted in 2014. This season she is happy to announce the launch of TDS Petites. Cait hopes to provide her students with the tools to be successful—in the dance world as well as in all other facets of life.

Levels & training process Dancers accepted at our annual audition will be placed into either the first company (HHTF, TRT, JTA, Acro Team), the second company (HHTF2, TRT2, JTA2, Acro2), minis (TDS Minis or Acro Minis), or petites (TDS Petites). The first companies are the primary performing companies, consisting of dancers with the most experience and the highest skill levels. Second companies are training companies with similar performance and class experiences as the first companies. The minis are our younger dancers who show particular promise. Petites are our youngest dancers who love to dance. Depending on a dancer’s skill level and other factors, he or she may be moved from a second company into a first company, or from minis into a second company, which will normally occur at the annual audition. A dancer may be accepted directly into a first company without having completed training in a second company, in the event his or her skill and maturity levels merit such placement. Dancers may also be placed as an apprentice. Apprentices attend both first and second company rehearsals, performing with the second company and understudying first company dancers. There is no guarantee that a dancer accepted into a second company, as an apprentice, or into minis will progress into a first or second company position.

Company attendance policy •

Rehearsals will begin Sunday, September 25, 2016 for TRT/TRT2, JTA/JTA2, and Acro Team/Acro2; Wednesday, September 29, 2016 for Acro Minis; and Thursday, September 28, 2016 for TDS Minis and TDS Petites, and will run weekly until auditions 2017, except when TDS is on break. The first Company Open Rehearsal will be September 29, 2016 for TRT/TRT2, JTA/JTA2, HHTF/HHTF2 and Acro Team/Acro2.

Dancers unable to attend a performance must step out of all performances within the two weeks following the missed performance, to avoid additional restaging rehearsals. Company rehearsal time should be spent improving choreography precision and performance qualities, not restaging.

If dancers have any conflict within a reserved-for-performance time span, they must step out in order to avoid the necessity for multiple restaging rehearsals.

Dancers must be available for all days of all scheduled competition weekends in order to be eligible for company membership. (See Tentative Event Schedule on page 16.)

Rehearsals are mandatory. A company cannot work if members are missing. Conflicts must be communicated at the beginning of the season.

Members are allowed only seven absences from regular rehearsals, seven absences from Company Open Rehearsal (HHTF/HHTF2, TRT/TRT2, JTA/JTA2, Acro Team/Acro2), and seven absences from each required technique class yearround, including summer. This policy will be strictly enforced and may have an impact on future placement.

Company tuition is discounted from 15% to 50% for more than one enrollment in a family. An “enrollment” is defined as a position held in a company (see Apprentice policy below). Discounts apply per family. Two dancers each in two separate companies would count as four enrollments. Discounts do not apply to master classes or special events. TranscenDance Studios’ Tuition Paid In Full and Multiple Class Enrollment discounts cannot be used toward company tuition. Apprentices will be charged tuition for the company level in which they have full membership; tuition for the level for which they are apprenticing will be discounted at 100%.

General rules for dancers 1.

Rehearsals are mandatory. A company cannot work if members are missing. Conflicts must be communicated at the beginning of the season.

2.

You are allowed only seven absences from regular rehearsals, seven absences from Company Open Rehearsal (HHTF/HHTF2, TRT/TRT2, JTA/JTA2, Acro Team/Acro2) and seven absences from each required technique class yearround, including summer. This policy will be strictly enforced and may have an impact on future placement. A temporary leave of absence may be granted due to extenuating personal reasons in lieu of resignation.

3.

If you are unable to attend a performance, you must step out of all performances within the two weeks following the missed performance to avoid additional restaging rehearsals. Company rehearsal time should be spent improving choreography precision and performance quailities, not restaging.

4.

Present yourself in a professional manner. This applies at all times, but especially in the presence of other dancers, teachers, and choreographers. You are representing your company, TranscenDance Studios, and Cait Jones-Seebacher as your directors, and you can leave a lasting impression on someone with the way you dress, speak, or act.

5.

No swearing, no drinking, no drugs.

6.

Never walk away alone. Don’t leave the group without letting someone know where you are going.

7.

No inappropriate conversations.

8.

No talking behind other people’s backs.

9.

Respect your elders, rehearsal directors, and other teachers.

10. Be early for everything. 11. Dress appropriately when representing the companies. 12. Be aware of what you put out there for people to view. As a TDS company member, you are a community fixture, not only in Oak Park but in the dance world as well. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and other social networking outlets are representations of yourself to the whole world, regardless of your “privacy” settings. 13. Don’t be the bad apple that ruins the barrel. Attitude is contageous. 14. These rules apply to classes as well. Younger dancers admire you; one wrong move and we may lose a great dancer because that young dancer does not want to be like you anymore! 15. You must abide by these rules and the Dancer’s Agreement.

Company Policies HHTF/HHTF2, JTR/JTR2, TRT/TRT2, ACRO TEAM/ACRO2, BREAK TEAM/MINIS, TDS MINIS, ACRO MINIS

Parent:

Dancer: LEVELS & TRAINING PROCESS – Dancers accepted at our annual audition will be placed into either the first company (HHTF, TRT, JTA, Acro Team), the second company (HHTF2, TRT2, JTA2, Acro2), minis (TDS Minis or Acro Minis), or TDS Petites. The first companies are the primary performing companies, consisting of dancers with the most experience and the highest skill levels. Second companies are training companies with similar performance and class experiences as the first companies. The minis and petites are younger dancers who show particular promise. ATTENDANCE POLICY – Rehearsals will begin the week of Sunday, September 25, 2016 and will run weekly until auditions 2017, except when TDS is on break. Dancers unable to attend a performance must step out of all performances within the two weeks following the missed performance to avoid additional restaging rehearsals. Rehearsals are mandatory. A company cannot work if members are missing. Conflicts must be communicated at the beginning of the season. Members are allowed only seven absences from regular rehearsals, seven absences from Company Open Rehearsal (HHTF/HHTF2, TRT/TRT2, JTA/JTA2, Acro Team/Acro2), and seven absences from each required technique class year-round, including summer. This policy will be strictly enforced and may have an impact on future placement. BILLING AND PAYMENT – Company tuition is charged to your TDS account and is paid on the same payment option as your classes— Full, Half or Monthly Auto-Debit. Special rehearsals due to performances will not be charged. Accounts must be up to date by audition date, or dancers will not be allowed to re-audition. See the audition booklet for the Schedule of Tuition Payments (45 weeks). TUITION – Annual tuition covering rehearsals and Company Open Rehearsal is $26.67/week for JTA/JTA2, $22.22/week for TRT/TRT2, HHTF/HHTF2, and Acro Team/Acro2; $18.89/week for TDS Minis and Acro Minis; and $17.78/week for TDS Petites—for 12 months of membership. Tuition is due for the entire season regardless of dancer’s attendance. Seniors leaving for college will receive pro-rated tuition. Tuition may be less if receiving Multiple Company Enrollment Discount. Tuition will be paid on the same payment option as your classes—Full, Half or Monthly Auto-Debit. See Fees & Billing in the audition booklet for the Schedule of Tuition Payments (45 weeks). MULTIPLE COMPANY ENROLLMENT DISCOUNT – The Multiple Company Enrollment Discount Table is found in the Audition Info & Season Policies booklet available at www.TranscenDanceStudios.com and at the TDS reception desk. The Multiple Company Enrollment Discount is the only discount that may be applied to company tuition. Company tuition is discounted from 15% to 50% for more than one enrollment in a family. An “enrollment” is defined as a position held in a company. Discounts apply per family. Two dancers each in two separate companies would count as four enrollments. Discounts do not apply to master classes or special events. TranscenDance Studios’ Tuition Paid In Full and Multiple Class Enrollment discounts cannot be used toward company tuition. When referring to discount tables, company applies to “audition only” rehearsals, class applies to required weekly technique classes. The Multiple Class Enrollment Discount Table can be found in the TDS Student Handbook. RECITAL FEE & COMPANY WARMUPS A $60 Company Showcase fee will be charged with your first company tuition payment, to cover the cost of six tickets to the Company Showcase during recital weekend. There is a $110 fee for company warmups (jacket and pants), required by every dancer. These are ordered shortly after auditions. If warmups from a previous season still fit and are in good condition, they need not be re-ordered. ADDITIONAL ROUTINES – Company dancers may apply to take part in a solo, duet, trio, or small group routine outside of the season’s Company routines. This opportunity is made available only to Company members. Additional routines must be in the same form of dance as the Company of which the dancers are members: JTA/JTA2 may compete in Jazz, Contemporary, or Lyrical divisons; HHTF/HHTF2 in Hip Hop; TRT/TRT2 in Tap; Acro/Acro2 in Acro Dance; second-year TDS Minis in Jazz, Hip Hop, or Tap divisions; and second-year Acro Minis may compete in Acro Dance. (Not available to Petites or first-year Minis.) Additional routine fees are charged over and above the standard Company fees. They will include a weekly rehearsal/choreography fee, competition entry fees for each competition and dance, and costume fees; they may include other studio fees incurred in the additional routine endeavor. Acceptance into additional routines is at the TDS Director’s discretion and will be made with the dancer’s best interest in mind. Applications are accepted at the beginning of the Company season and may be obtained at the TDS front desk. REQUIRED CONVENTION – All company dancers are required to attend these conventions to improve their all-around dance skills. All quoted fees are estimates based on past fees. HHTF/HHTF2 – (Reserve both weekends. We will attend ONE as a group.) The Pulse & Camp Pulse, November 11-13, 2016 (approx. $200-$285*, depending on level enrolled), OR Monsters of Hip Hop, November 18-20, 2016 (approx. $220-$250*, depending on level enrolled) *NOTE: Payment will be due within one week of auditions. TRT/TRT2 – Chicago Human Rhythm Project “Rhythm World” Summer Festival, July 21-23, 2017 Enrollment options: • 2 workshops on Friday (approx. $155), OR • 4 master classes on Saturday or Sunday (approx. $145), OR • 1 workshop on Friday and 2 master classes on Saturday/Sunday (approx. $150) JTA/JTA2 – Chicago Dance Connection, July 7-9, 2016 (approx. $250-$270) Three days of master classes and may include a competition.

Company Dancer Agreement As a member of a TranscenDance Studios company, I agree to maintain my highest standard of discipline, to respect my fellow dancers, and to continually be a public representative of the company, as well as TranscenDance Studios. I understand that my attitude toward dance and toward other people is very visible, and that many other dancers will be looking up to me. For this reason, I agree to be a role model for them, by regularly attending classes and rehearsals, practicing consistently, and keeping a positive attitude at all times. I agree to be respectful in my actions toward everyone with whom I come in contact. I will not use drugs or alcohol (including cigarettes). I understand that if I break this rule in any way, my membership in the company will be reviewed by the Director and my parents, and I may be asked to resign from the company. I understand that I must be available for all days of all scheduled competition weekends in order to be eligible for company membership. I am dedicated to performing with the company for all events, unless a major scheduling conflict occurs and an agreement is reached with the Director. In the case that I should have a scheduling conflict, I agree to notify the Director at the beginning of the season in order to be fair to the other dancers with whom I work. TranscenDance Studios companies are dedicated to preserving the history of their respective dance form, promoting and presenting it to the public eye, and further innovation of the art form to carry us into a new generation through leadership and educational opportunities. I understand that the companies are not an extracurricular activity, and that my dedication to these goals, as well as my personal growth as a dancer, is evidenced by my attendance and participation in company rehearsals and performances. If at any time I find I cannot remain dedicated to these goals, I agree to resign and make my position available to one of the many dancers desiring to become a member. I also agree to actively participate in fund raising activities as well as one convention/master class event a season.

Company Parent Agreement I understand that if my child is accepted as a member in a TranscenDance Studios company, it will be a serious time commitment for him or her. I agree to communicate any vacations and absences to the Director at the beginning of the season. I will encourage my child to maintain attendance at his/her regular dance classes, to regularly attend rehearsals and company functions, and to practice outside of his or her time at the dance studio. In the event a conflict should arise regarding my child’s school work, behavior, etc., I understand that arrangements can be made for my child to take a temporary leave of absence from the company in order to alleviate the problem. I understand that leaves of absence are typically granted only in cases of dire need. I understand that my child must be available for all days of all scheduled competition weekends in order to be eligible for company membership. I understand the class and rehearsal requirements, as well as the attendance policy, as presented in the audition brochure or booklet. If finances become an issue, I understand it is my responsibility to make special arrangements with the Director.
