Athletics Mission Statement The Department of Athletics and Recreation strives to set the standard of excellence for intercollegiate and intramural programs in higher education, thereby advancing and drawing attention to the mission, core values, and educational goals of Bucknell University. Bucknell takes great pride in its commitment to excellence on and off the playing fields. From Presidents’ Cups to Academic All-Americans to graduation rates that are ranked annually in the national top-10, Bucknell is clearly at the head of the class when it comes to upholding the scholar-athlete ideal. •

According to federal data released by the NCAA each fall, Bucknell’s student-athlete graduation rate annually ranks in the top 10 among all Division I institutions. Bucknell has led the nation in graduation rates three times.

Bucknell has claimed a league-high 137 Patriot League Scholar-Athletes of the Year since the league’s inception as an all-sports conference in 1990-91.

A total of 402 Bison appeared on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2013-14 after recording a GPA of 3.2 or better during their sport’s competition season. Among all BU student-athletes, 498 made the Dean’s List with GPAs of 3.5 or better during 2013-14.

In addition to the 126 Capital One Academic All-Americans produced since 1970, Bucknell has also claimed 341 Academic All-District honorees over the same span, including three in 2013-14.

A NATIONAL MODEL IN PROMOTING THE SCHOLAR-ATHLETE IDEAL Bucknell Athletics is first and foremost a student-centered organization, one that strives to be a national leader when it comes to operating by a true scholar-athlete model. At Bucknell, student-athletes’ academic programs are their first priority, and providing a competitive Division I athletics program only advances the mission, values and residential learning goals of the university. To that end, the Department of Athletics and Recreation proactively seeks ways to assist student-athletes in their daily academic pursuits. Below are just some of the student-athlete support programs currently in place. BUCKNELL BISON LEADERSHIP ACADEMY: In 2011-12, the Department of Athletics launched the Bucknell Bison Leadership Academy. This program is designed to help student-athletes learn how to be effective leaders on and off the playing fields. The Leadership Academy features programming and instruction that bridge theory, development and real experiences in an interactive learning environment. Through this endeavor, team leaders can enhance their impact on their teammates’ and their program’s performance immediately and for years to come. FACULTY ATHLETICS REPRESENTATIVE: The faculty athletics representative (FAR) is a member of the faculty or administrative staff who is designated to represent Bucknell in its relationships with the NCAA and the Patriot League. Bucknell’s FAR is Mitch Chernin, Professor of Biology. The FAR can enhance the student-athlete experience by promoting a balance between academics, athletics and the social lives of student-athletes, which affords them opportunities to enjoy a full range of collegiate experiences. SIDELINE COACH PROGRAM: This program is a truly unique initiative in Division I college athletics, and it involves the invitation of a member of the faculty, administration, staff or community by one of Bucknell’s 27 varsity teams. The participant has the opportunity to discuss the overall program with the respective coaching staff, including practice preparation and strategy for the upcoming contest. The sideline coach attends a practice session and an actual intercollegiate competition, where he/she is introduced to the team and gains rarely seen insight into the relationships that exist between player-coach and player-player. The purpose of the Sideline Coaches Program is to foster a better understanding by the faculty and administration of the roles played by coaches and athletes in the university’s competitive intercollegiate athletic arena. ACADEMIC ENHANCEMENT CENTER: In the Fall of 2005, the Department of Athletics opened a study/computer lab for student-athletes on the concourse level of Sojka Pavilion. The center is outfitted with computers, a laser printer, four television monitors and a projection unit with computer, VCR and DVD player. Additionally, the study lab can be used as a meeting place for group projects, tutorial area or just a secluded and quiet study space before or after practice. In addition, the Department of Athletics owns a number of laptop computers that may be signed out by student-athletes for use on away trips. STUDENT-ATHLETE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SAAC): Representatives from each varsity team comprise the SAAC, which is designed to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare, and fostering a positive student-athlete image. The Committee is an invaluable resource for promoting communication between athletics administration and student-athletes; promoting communication between athletics and campus-wide administration; providing feedback and insight, as well as soliciting responses into department issues and proposed NCAA legislation; building a sense of community within the athletics program involving all athletics teams; organizing community service projects and efforts; creating a vehicle for student-athlete representation on campus-wide committees; serving as a collective voice of campus student-athletes; and disseminating information to the student-athlete body. Among the programs the Bucknell SAAC has undertaken in recent years are regular volunteer trips to the Lewisburg Food Bank, and involvement with the “Orange and Blue goes Green” sustainability program. BISON GOOD SPORTS: Now in its eighth year, Bison Good Sports is a sportsmanship awareness program designed to promote appropriate fan conduct at all Bison sporting events. Bucknell teams have some of the best fan support in the Patriot League, and we encourage all fans to enthusiastically cheer on the Orange & Blue in a positive manner.

Season Outlook

A great run in last year’s Patriot League Tournament had the Bucknell softball team in the conference championship game for the first time since 2010.The Bison settled for a runner-up finish with a loss to Boston University, and head coach Bonnie Skrenta says that is all the motivation the team needs heading into the upcoming season. “Being second is motivation for the team because the players continue to tell each other that we have to get better so we can come out on top,” said Skrenta, who is entering her third season as head coach of the Bison. “These players, especially the senior class, couldn’t be any more motivated and focused right now. And the junior class has so much respect for those seniors that they talk about wanting to do it now for their teammates.” The Bison finished 23-26 overall last season, a 12-win improvement from the year before Skrenta took over the program. More importantly, they were 10-8 in the Patriot League, the second straight year they finished the conference schedule with a winning record. A lot of the team’s success came from its potent lineup, which finished in the top three in the conference in nearly every important statistical category. The impressive numbers were bolstered by an outstanding season by current senior Cydnee Sanders, who was third in the nation and first in the Patriot League in batting average (.482). “We were led by Cydnee with that huge batting average but now she seems to have more of a cast around her, including players like Jacee Almond and Kristen Zahn, who were there last year, but also some younger players that we hope will protect those batters in the lineup. We are an offensiveminded team and my goal is to have nine quality hitters in the lineup,” Skrenta said. Sanders did more than just hit for average. She was first in the league in total bases (100), runs scored (42) and hits (80), second in on-base percentage (.511) and doubles (15) and third in slugging percentage (.602). She was named NFCA All-Region, First Team All-Patriot League and the conference’s ScholarAthlete of the Year following the season. Sanders was joined on the team by four returning players. Zahn, junior Cheyanna Young and Almond all made the Second Team as offensive players, while sophomore Lara Bean made it after her first season as a pitcher for the Bison. Almond, a second baseman, gives Bucknell a unique threat in the leadoff spot. Like many leadoff hitters, she showed her ability to get on base, finishing ninth in the conference with a .400 OBP. What sets her apart from the

league’s other hitters at the top of the lineup is her power. She was second in the league with seven home runs and fourth with 12 doubles. Skrenta said the coaches did discuss moving Almond out of the leadoff spot into more of a run-producing role, but plan on keeping her there to start the season. “We have talked about getting our best hitters up as many times as possible during the game and with her in the leadoff spot that adds up during a long season,” Skrenta said. “One of our goals is to get the leadoff hitter on in four out of the seven innings each game.” Almond wasn’t the only player hitting for power last season. Zahn was fourth in the conference with six home runs and drove in 34 runs. Bean gave the Bison a much-needed boost with the absence of an injured Amanda Fazio for a large portion of the season, earning her all-conference honors after finishing 7-7 with a 2.86 ERA. She led all pitchers in the conference in opposing batting average, holding hitters to a .198 clip. The two were joined by Cindy Cherness and Dana Nielsen on a staff that finished with a 3.14 ERA, a number Skrenta hopes will drop into the twos this season, and will welcome freshmen Taylor Langtry and Paulina Gutkin to the staff this year. “Amanda Fazio didn’t have the number of wins some thought she might last season because of her injury, but if you look at the wins she did have, they were some of the most important wins we had all season,” Skrenta said. One of the positions that is still in flux for the Bison is at catcher, where sophomore Christina Martinez and freshman Kamille Larrabee are both looking to crack the starting lineup. Numerous players will get an opportunity based on multiple factors, including Skrenta’s hope to have fresh legs behind the plate. “We saw at the end of the league schedule that one advantage we had was our conditioning. Batters can’t get comfortable when they don’t know who is catching. The catcher can affect your at-bat so it may be a strategy to use all three,” Skrenta said. “That position is going to have to be a leader for us. We are looking for someone that can help manage the middle of the field. We want a vocal leader and someone that is going to lead by example. They will all get a shot.” Bucknell, led by three Preseason All-Patriot League selections in Sanders (SS), Fazio (P/OF) and Almond (INF), was picked to finish second in the conference by a vote of the league’s coaches and sports information directors. Boston University was predicted to repeat as champion.

Coaching Staff

Bonnie Skrenta Head Coach Third Season Providence ’00

Bonnie Skrenta was named the head coach at Bucknell in June 2012 after serving as the head coach at DePauw University for 10 seasons. Skrenta guided DePauw to five NCAA Tournament appearances, and she left as the program’s all-time winningest softball coach with a 280-127-2 (.687) record. It didn’t take long for Skrenta to turn things around at Bucknell. She took over a team that won 11 games the season prior to her arrival, and has since taken the Bison to the Patriot League Tournament in each of her first two seasons. Her players have earned nine All-Pariot League honors during that time. Skrenta’s first year at the helm of the Bison softball program was full of success for the team and accolades for her players. Bucknell finished its season at 21-30 overall and 11-9 in the Patriot League, a 10-win increase to its overall record from 2012, and a six-win improvement in conference play. The Bison also returned to the conference tournament for the first time since 2010, earning the third seed. At the conclusion of her first season, five of Skrenta’s players earned postseason honors from the Patriot League. Cydnee Sanders was named First Team AllPatriot League, while Erin Cox, Amanda Fazio and Kristen Zahn were voted to the second team. Sanders, Zahn and Cassie Greenhawk were also Academic All-Patriot League Team selections. The improvements continued for the Bison in 2014 as they totaled 23 wins and a 10-8 record in the conference on their way to being the third seed in the Patriot League Tournament. Once there, the Bison won back-to-back elimination games to advance to the championship for the first time since 2010, finishing as the runner-up to Boston University. Skrenta once again had players rack up postseason awards, led by Sanders. In addition to being one of five All-Patriot League selections - Bucknell’s most since 2008 - Sanders became the 11th Bison player to earn NFCA All-Region honors, while also being voted the Patriot League Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Additionally, the team had 11 players named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and three selected Academic All-Patriot League. Prior to her move to Lewisburg, Skrenta oversaw quite a turnaround during her tenure at DePauw. The Tigers finished 12-24-1 in the season before she assumed the head coaching duties at the age of 24. By her third season DePauw was back on the winning side of the ledger with a 19-18-1 record, and in year No. 4 the Tigers finished 31-10 and a perfect 12-0 in the Southern College Athletic Conference. In 2007, Skrenta’s squad finished 37-7 overall, 11-1 in the conference and earned the program’s very first NCAA Division III Tournament berth. The 2007 squad also crowned the school’s first All-American, and the 37 wins established a new program record, only to be surpassed a year later when the team finished 40-4. DePauw hit the 40-win mark again in 2010 when it went 40-9. DePauw made five straight NCAA Regional Tournament appearances from 2007-11, and the Tigers advanced to the Division III College World Series in 2007, 2010 and 2011. The 2008 squad was ranked No. 1 in the nation at one point late in the season and produced a 37-game winning streak. Skrenta, who was a three-time NFCA Central Region Coach of the Year, mentored three All-Americans, one Honda Division III Athlete of the Year finalist, 27 all-region players, 36 all-conference selections and four conference players of the year in her time at DePauw. In addition, each of her last six teams posted a combined grade-point average of at least 3.32. In her time at DePauw, Skrenta served as a part-time faculty member in the department of kinesiology, where she taught classes in aerobic conditioning and free weights. Skrenta was also an outstanding student-athlete herself. She started her undergraduate career at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where she played varsity basketball and softball, earning NFCA third team All-Region honors on the diamond. Prior to her junior year she transferred to Providence College, where she was a two-year member of the Friars’ Division I program. She captained the team as a senior in 2000 and received the Paul Connolly Award for Distinguished Student-Athletes. Skrenta graduated cum laude from Providence with a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics. Skrenta went on to earn a master’s degree in exercise and sport studies from Smith College in 2002. While at Smith she served as a graduate assistant softball coach and completed a teaching fellowship.

Marissa Myers Assistant Coach Second Season Clarion ’10

Marissa Myers joined the Bucknell softball staff as an assistant coach during the fall of 2013. A standout catcher at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, Myers spent the previous two years as an assistant at Tufts University, helping lead the Jumbos to the 2013 NCAA Division III National Championship title. In her first season as an assistant at Bucknell, Myers helped lead the Bison to their second straight third seed in the Patriot League Tournament. Once there, they won back-to-back elimination games to advance to the championship round, where they finished as the conference runner-up. In Myers’ time with the Jumbos, the squad won back-to-back NESCAC championship titles and Regional championship titles.Tufts earned also earned a berth in the NCAA Division III tournament in both of her years with the team, finishing fifth in 2012 before winning the national championship the following year. Myers was part of a staff that was selected as the Regional Coaching Staff of the Year in 2012 and 2013, as well as the NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year in 2013. Myers’ responsibilities while at Tufts were numerous, as she helped plan and execute practices, worked specifically with the infielders and pitchers, made travel arrangements, put on camps and actively recruited for the Jumbos. Off the diamond, she served as the Assistant Director of Intramurals at Tufts, running the program in the fall and spring, and also took post-baccalaureate classes in education at the university. Prior to her time at Tufts, Myers spent one season as the assistant softball coach at Penn-Trafford High School in Harrison City, Pa. She served as the head coach of the junior varsity squad, and also assisted with all facets of the program at the varsity level. Complimenting her varied experience in the softball community, Myers has also served as the co-head coach of the Pittsburgh Predator travel softball team for the past ten summers. She has coached all aspects of fast pitch softball at the 12U, 14U and 16U levels, and has been primarily in charge of the pitching staff, helping to develop young pitchers with her instruction of the fundamentals. A strong athlete herself, Myers was a four-year letterwinner and starting catcher on the Clarion University softball team.The winner of the Outstanding Dedication to Softball Award in 2010, she ranked fourth on Clarion’s all-time walks list at the time of her graduation. Myers graduated from Clarion with honors in 2010, receiving a bachelor of science degree in elementary education with concentrations in coaching and sports management.

Bucknell softball won the 2010 Patriot League Championship on May 15, twice coming from behind to defeat Colgate 4-3 (9 inn.) and 6-4 on the final day of play at West Point, N.Y. The championship was the second in program history and the first since 1997.

With its Patriot League Tournament success, Bucknell advanced to its firstever NCAA Championships. Hall of Fame/PL All-Decade Team Softball Players in Bucknell Hall of Fame The following former softball players have been inducted into Bucknell’s Athletic Hall of Fame: Lisa Fink (’93): One of Bucknell’s top female athletes and arguably the top softball player in school history, Fink was also a star on the basketball court for the Bison. A four-time all-league selection in softball, Fink batted .440 during her senior year and earned Patriot League Player of the Year and First Team Academic All-America honors. Fink owned a .378 career batting average and never hit below .344 in her four-year career. The rare first-ballot Hall of Famer was an NCAA Woman of the Year nominee in 1993. Entered the Hall of Fame with the Class of 2003. Sharon Nichols (’91): The most dominating softball pitcher to ever wear the Orange and Blue, Nichols graduated with every pitching record, and to this day she still holds six Bucknell marks - including three career records.A perennial all-conference selection, she posted a 0.83 career earned run average, notched 332 strikeouts and had 51 victories in the circle. During her career she threw four no-hitters and a perfect game, and in 1991 she compiled a streak of 59.2 innings without allowing an earned run.As a senior, Nichols ranked sixth nationally with a 0.38 ERA and compiled a 16-6 mark with eight shutouts. Entered the Hall of Fame with the Class of 2001.

Dianne Czarnecki (’87): A four-year letterwinner and All-East Coast Conference selection in both field hockey and softball, Czarnecki also picked up all-region honors on the diamond her senior season. Entered the Hall of Fame with the Class of 1999.

JenYuengling (’93): Considered one of the best catchers and leadoff hitters in the history of the Bucknell softball program, Yuengling’s .332 career average ranks 10th all-time. She also broke school records for career walks (66) and recorded the longest hitting streak (20) in program history. Yuengling was named to the All-East Coast Conference Team in 1990 and to the All-Patriot League squad in 1993. She was later named to the Patriot League All-Decade Team. Entered the Hall of Fame with the Class of 2009.

Lynne Walshaw (’89): A four-year starter and All-East Coast Conference selection, Walshaw graduated Bucknell holding 14 school records. Of those 14 records, her .702 slugging percentage still topped the Bucknell single-season list when entering Hall of Fame. Entered the Hall of Fame with the Class of 2000.

Dawn Becker (’85): An outstanding pitcher, Becker compiled one of the most impressive careers in Bucknell softball history. Becker set numerous Bucknell softball pitching records and was a two-time East Coast Conference ScholarAthlete and Second Team Academic All-

Jill Henry (’81): A three-sport captain in field hockey, basketball and softball, Henry set game and season scoring records in basketball and was twice named to the Academic All-America College Division Team. Entered the Hall of Fame with the Class of 1993.

In 2005, Bucknell’s Lauren Wible hit .524 to lead the nation and break Bucknell and Patriot League records. The Dover, Pa., native was named the Patriot League Player of the Year, became the first Bison since 1999 to earn a spot on the All-Mid Atlantic Region First Team and copped Academic All-America honors. She also earned plaudits as the Patriot League Softball and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Wible completed the 2005 campaign second nationally in doubles per game (0.39), third in slugging percentage (.903) and 21st in walks per game (0.63).

The Bucknell University Department of Athletics and Recreation prides itself on setting the standard of excellence when it comes to success both on the playing fields and in the classroom.With 18 Patriot League Presidents’ Cups in 24 years, national leadership in graduation rates in 2013, 125 Academic All-Americans since 1970 and 136 Patriot League Scholar-Athletes in 24 years, Bucknell is clearly at the head of the class in terms of upholding the scholar-athlete model. The 2003 addition of the Kenneth G. Langone Athletics and Recreation Center, one of the finest collegiate athletics and recreation venues of its kind, ensures the continuation of that success. The facility enhances each of Bucknell’s 27 varsity programs and greatly expands the scope of its growing intramural and recreational sports offerings. A visually appealing structure located along Moore Avenue on the “downhill” side of campus, the Langone Athletics and Recreation Center was designed to reach out to all members of the campus community, including the student body, varsity student-athletes, faculty, staff and alumni. Three primary venues lie within the facility: the Arthur D. Kinney Jr. Natatorium, the 4,000-seat Gary A. Sojka Pavilion and the Krebs Family Fitness Center. Other features include a new location for the Bucknell Athletics Hall of Fame, a display of Bucknell’s Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, a sports medicine and athletic training suite, classrooms, modern offices for coaches and staff and increased locker room space for varsity and recreational athletes. The facility is named in honor of Ken Langone, a 1957 Bucknell graduate who, along with his wife Elaine, pledged $11 million toward the center’s construction. Langone was a member of the university Board of Trustees from 1980 to 1996.

One of the special qualities of the Langone Athletics and Recreation Center is the manner in which it supplements the pre-existing facilities.The construction surrounds Gerhard Fieldhouse and historic Davis Gymnasium, which has been restored as a competition venue for the Bison wrestling and volleyball teams, as well as intramural, recreation and other varsity practice activities. As Bucknell continues to strive toward its mission of setting the standard of excellence in college athletics, the Langone Athletics and Recreation Center becomes the centerpiece in an already impressive cache of athletics facilities that includes the 13,100-seat Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium and its FieldTurf and 8-lane track surface; the scenic Bucknell Golf Club; Depew Field, the home of the Bison baseball team; the spacious West Fields with Becker Field for softball, Emmitt Field for soccer and Graham Field for field hockey and women’s lacrosse, including Holmes Stadium with covered grandstand seats, ticket and concession areas, team rooms, a training room and a press box area for soccer, field hockey and women’s lacrosse.

Located on the west side of Route 15, Bucknell’s Charles & Karen Becker Field is the home venue for the Bison softball team. Adjacent to baseball’s Depew Field, the softball field is a fenced complex that contains a natural grass outfield with a manicured infield. The facility, named in honor of Hall of Famer Dawn Becker’s parents, underwent extensive renovations at the conclusion of the 2010 campaign and included new dugouts, scoreboard, backstop and playing surface. Bucknell owns a 234-227-4 (.508) all-time record on its home field.

Patriot League The Patriot League The Patriot League, which was founded on the principles of admitting athletes who are academically representative of their class, is in its third decade of academic and athletic achievement. Participation in athletics at Patriot League institutions is viewed as an important component of a well-rounded education. The Patriot League began as a successful Division I-AA (now called Football Championship Subdivision) football conference in 1986. Full League members include American, Army, Boston University, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola Maryland and Navy. Associate members include Fordham in football, Massachusetts Institute of Technology in women’s rowing and Georgetown in both football and women’s rowing. These member institutions are among the oldest and most prestigious in the nation. Alumni from Patriot League colleges and universities have played a leadership role in the shaping of our country. In the classroom, the Patriot League’s full-member institutions, individually and collectively, consistently rank among the top Division I programs in the NCAA Graduation Rates Report. Since 1998, the Patriot League has ranked first among all Division I conferences offering scholarships in student-athlete graduation rates according to the NCAA Graduation Rates report.The League finished at the top spot with 96 percent of its teams reporting a graduation rate of 85 percent or higher in the most recent data. In addition, 90 Patriot League teams earned NCAA Academic Performance Program Public Recognition Awards after posting academic progress rate scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. League members have also distinguished themselves on the field of play. The Patriot League sponsors championship competition in 24 sports (11 for men; 13 for women). Championship teams from 15 sports are guaranteed advancement into NCAA post-season competition: baseball, men and women’s basketball, field hockey, football, men’s golf, men and women’s lacrosse, rowing, men and women’s soccer, softball, men and women’s tennis and volleyball. Along the timeline of Patriot League history about three-quarters of the Patriot League’s Scholar-Athletes of the Year also received All-Patriot League status for their exemplary athletic performance. In the Patriot League’s history, more than 200 student-athletes have been recognized as CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, while more than 12,000 have qualified for the League’s Academic Honor Roll. More than 30 student-athletes have received NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships. Additionally, Patriot League student-athletes have earned Fulbright Scholarships, Rhodes Scholarships, Marshall Scholarships and NACDA/Disney Scholarships.

The Presidents’ Cup signifies overall excellence in the 24 sports sponsored by the Patriot League, and Bucknell has won the Cup 18 times in its 24-year existence, including 14 of the last 17 years. The Presidents’ Cup is awarded annually to the institution that accumulates the highest point total over the entire academic year, with points awarded on the basis of the school’s finish in each of the 24 Patriot League sports. If there is a league tournament in a sport, the points are awarded based on the average of the regular season and tournament finish, and if there is no post-season tournament, points are awarded based on regularseason standings.

Training Bison Student-Athletes to Become Effective Leaders in Academics, in Athletics, and in Life Competitive sports at Bucknell dates back to 1870, and more than a century later Bucknell has established itself as a national leader in providing successful academic and athletic opportunities for student-athletes. Today, the Department of Athletics & Recreation strives to set the standard of excellence among all intercollegiate programs by maintaining academic priorities and supporting educational and personal development, all while providing the rigorous and competitive Division I athletics opportunity sought by Bucknell student-athletes. As Bison Athletics seeks to create a comprehensive learning environment that meshes with the academic mission of the University, an important element of the complete student-athlete experience is participation in an elite leadership development program designed to identify, develop, challenge and support student-athletes and coaches in their continual quest to become leaders in academics, in athletics and in life. ABOUT THE PROGRAM • In the summer of 2011 the Bucknell Department of Athletics & Recreation implemented a formal leadership development program. • Initial workshops were facilitated by the Janssen Sports Leadership Center. • As part of a Patriot League-wide leadership initiative, the program is designed to help studentathletes learn how to be effective leaders on and off the playing fields. • Initially, a group of 60 student-athletes were identified as members.These workshops for both student-athletes and their coaches have set the stage for ongoing programming that will encompass the Bucknell Bison Leadership Academy. GOALS FOR THE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY • Identify and develop high potential leaders in their sophomore or junior years • Help young best athletes become best leaders • Create strong leaders by example and set the stage for developing vocal leaders • Build a strong peer support network for aspiring leaders • Develop leaders who support and learn from current team captains/leaders • Practice leading self, their class, and below • Succession Planning — smoothly replace graduating leaders • Encourage veteran leaders to step up and be vocal leaders • Establish a solid, cooperative and ongoing partnership with the coaching staff • Teach and apply the insights and skills necessary to be a responsible and respected leader • Provide veteran leaders with ongoing coaching and support as they tackle the tough issues of team leadership • Provide veteran leaders with a solid peer network for guidance and support • Provide veteran leaders with highly marketable leadership skills for a lifetime
