Art Show Mrs. Festin’s class from Colonie High School

2017 in Review The Colonie Town Library has had quite a full year. Much planning and preparation began for a major renovation and capital improvement project. This kicked off with some roof repairs in November and the purchase of new LED lighting for the parking lot in December. In programming, our focus this year was on cross promotion and multigenerational programs like our Star Wars Jedi Academy and Fall Festival. Both programs saw a very large attendance with a wide appeal to families and individuals, as well as a nice representation from all generations.

The library has many partners and sponsors that help us achieve great things in our community. We would like to make a special thank you to Assemblyman Phil Steck, who has supported the library in receiving two grants from the State and Municipal Facilities Program (SAM), each for $500,000. In addition, we are grateful for the grant we received from the NYS Library Construction program and the grant we received from Stewarts.

2017 Statistical Highlights

We have a BIG thank you for our Friends of the Library who work tirelessly. This year the Friends continued their fundraising efforts with their first large onsite book sale in April that was in addition to the weekly Booknook that is held at the Crossings. They also hosted their first audience participation Murder Mystery program in October. Written and directed by staff member Carol Jones, it was performed by local players. This sold out event was a huge hit.

2017 Adult Program Highlight Last year, we debuted Crafternoons, a free monthly crafting class series for adults – and we have been having a wonderful time! In fact, the response has been so positive, we’ve expanded our creative offerings to include our twice monthly Fiber Club, where we exchange tips on knitting, crocheting, and more. Never crafted before? Feel like you are “not creative”? That’s ok! Our classes are fun and supportive, and we welcome beginners. Here’s a look back at some of the fun projects we made in 2017!

Renovation Project Update Phase 1 of the Library's construction project is officially underway! This first leg of the project will include the creation of an inviting (and expanded) entrance area, all-new bathrooms, updated lighting and mechanical, and the relocation of some staff offices. The drawings with some of the first phase changes are available for viewing outside of the Administrative Office, behind the Information Alcove Demo Desk. We have started with some preliminary work to support these exciting changes in several areas. Evening visitors to the library will enjoy the brighter glow of recently updated, energy-efficient lighting in our parking lot. Demolition work has also recently begun in some areas of the library, with walls coming down in preparation for new Office Demo spaces and offices.

Please excuse our mess and thank you for your patience with this process. We are actively working to minimize disruption of library usage, and will provide as much notice as possible of any service impacts. When the work is complete, we are certain you will find the result to be well worth the wait!

Teen Room Renovation Update The Teen Room was one of the first rooms impacted by our renovations, so we've done some reorganizing!
