Assistant Fire Chief Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue in the Puget Sound area in Washington State, is currently recruiting qualified applicants to fill the assistant fire chief position. The position is currently vacant. This position reports directly to the Fire Chief. Policy is set by a five-member Board of Fire Commissioners. Port Ludlow is located 90 minutes northwest of Seattle across the Puget Sound and Hood Canal. This residential and planned resort community offers all the beauty and tranquility this serene area has to offer. The progressive, well-equipped department serves over 5000 patrons living in a district of 55 square miles. Services are provided from three stations with an annual budget of approximately $2.6 million. Twelve career line firefighters, 10 volunteer and 15 resident firefighters provide fire, EMS (ALS/BLS Transport), and rescue services. The fire chief, assistant fire chief, volunteer coordinator, administrative assistant and part-time office clerk round out the staffing. The District responded to 725 calls for service in 2009. Qualifications for the successful applicant include:  An Associates degree in fire science, fire administration, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors or Masters preferred  A minimum of eight (8) years of full-time, progressively responsible, Fire/EMS experience in a paid or combined paid/volunteer fire department with at least three (3) years in a supervisory/command-level position  Successful completion of or currently enrolled in upper-level management or graduate-level course work is desirable  A combination of education, experience and training that clearly demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, abilities, behaviors and traits to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered as a part of the above requirements  Successful completion of the National Fire Academy Executive Officer program, or a Chief Officer Certification is desirable  NFPA Instructor II or equivalent and experience managing a training program and hands-on delivery of department training  NFPA Fire Officer II or equivalent education and experience  Proven experience in working with a unionized workforce to include contract negotiation, contract management and conflict resolution skills is desirable
