THE BRIEF

Entech Pollutec Asia 2009 is an exhibition dedicated to environmental protection and pollution-control technology. The aim of the event was to connect exhibitors and delegates working in the environmental protection industry. The World Renewable Energy Congress 2009 (WREC) ran simultaneously from May 19 to 22. ways to reduce energy costs in homes and businesses. More than 500 international participants from 38 countries arrived in Bangkok to attend the congress. Organisation for 10,000 delegates in itself required professional and reliable resources. BITEC arranged free shuttle buses from Onnut BTS station to BITEC for participants staying in city hotels. EXECUTION

Entech covered three important areas: Renewable Energy, which focused on clean sustainable technology such as solar, wind and hydro-power; Pumps and Valves, which provided monitoring applications; and Entech-Pollutec, which featured the latest environmental technology to control and eliminate pollution and improve energy conservation. A popular feature of the event was

a seminar on ‘Energy Saving for Industrial Factories’. Presentations on the latest energy-saving technology as well as success stories were given by top speakers from King Mongkut University of Technology Thonburi. Running in tandem with the exhibition was WREC 2009 Asia. The welcome reception for the event was held in the Fahrenheit Room at BITEC. This provided excellent networking opportunities for speakers, participants and invited guests. Optional excursions included the Royal Chitralada Agricultural Project at Dusit Palace, the Chao Khun Agro Project at Saraburi and the District Cooling System and Power Plan at Suvarnabhumi. COMMENT

Nucharin Paradeevisut, general manager – operations of UBM Asia, says: “Entech is more than just another exhibition. Over the past 19 years, the show has become a high point in the battle to save our environment. The Thai government has taken a positive stance here and the country is now recognised as one of the most environmentally progressive in the region. “Thailand continues to subsidise many ‘green’ programmes and its 15-year Renewable Energy Plan is committed to helping the industry despite the current recession.” WWW.CEIASIA.COM

Industry Survey and Awards

The CEI Asia Industry Survey and Awards is recognised as the most useful, credible and far-reaching research of the industry ever compiled. Solely based on the views of corporate decision-makers, our Industry Survey offers a benchmark of unrivalled quality. Using an online questionnaire, we ask our readers to talk about their budget expenditure and we reveal their opinions on Asia Pacific’s best destinations, tourism organisations, hotels, resorts and convention centres. The results of our Industry Survey and the winners are published in the January issue of CEI Asia. This issue, more than any other, is kept and referred to by our readers throughout the year, presenting a unique opportunity for advertisers.

Special Reports

From time to time, a topic or destination is so complex and so interesting for CEI Asia readers, that it deserves special treatment. On those occasions, we produce Special Reports of 16-32 pages, permitting us to explore the subject in far more detail than is normally possible in CEI Asia. Recent Special Reports have include Shanghai World Expo, Hotel Brands and our annual report about MICE developments in China.

Advertorial

Advertorials are ideal for delivering information in an enhanced press-release style, such as details about new facilities and destination packages. Advertorials are also perfect for complex messages about multiple properties, destinations and regions. CEI Asia advertorials* follow a specific template and are written by experienced journalists in this sector, based on the client’s brief and images. The client has full control over the advertorial text and images. Price is based on the advertising rate per page, plus a fee to cover writing, design and layout. Tourism Australia, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore, Hong Kong Tourism Board and Grand Hyatt Beijing have recently published advertorials in CEI Asia. * All Advertorials are clearly identified as ‘Advertisement Promotion’

Unique event spaces Large-scale, government-sponsored events can hire the Esplanade Promenade for catered dinner and entertainment, including fireworks like those laid on for the 2006 World Bank-International Monetary Fund annual meeting. The Float at Marina Bay is where Singapore’s annual National Day parade is held, with the world’s largest floating performance stage and terraced seating for 27,000 people. Across the Marina Channel, Singapore’s first city reservoir, Marina Barrage is a spectacular venue for events of up to 10,000 people. The city has recently had a makeover. Not only are there four terminals at Singapore Changi Airport and a new airport hotel, the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, but as you cruise down the East Coast Expressway you will notice the skyline looks different. he new city of Songdo, set to become a leading international venue for MICE events, also lays claim to being the world’s first purpose-built sustainable city. “Songdo is located in Korea's first free economic zone,” says Heui Jeong Han, assistant manager of the operations team at Songdo ConvensiA, Incheon Tourism Organisation. “The MICE industry at Songdo will play an important role in the trade and cultural exchanges needed for the development of the free economic zone.”

including the Asia Pacific Cities Summit in September. ConvensiA will host the Korea MICE Expo in November, with 200 hosted buyers and more than 3,000 participants. Songdo is a one-hour drive from downtown Seoul. The Incheon Bridge also connects Songdo to Incheon International Airport in just 15 minutes. “Korea now has the perfect place for international business events in Songdo, thanks to its accessibility and facilities,” says Adam Simkins, general manager of the Hyatt Regency Incheon.

New facilities The world-class convention facility Songdo ConvensiA opened in July at a cost of US$120 million. “ConvensiA offers 4,020 sqm of pre-event spaces and conference rooms in a range of sizes,” says Han. “There is also 8,410 sqm of exhibition space partitioned into two areas.” More than 200 conventions and exhibitions will be held at the centre in 2009,

Sustainable environment The highest environmental standards were applied to the design and construction of Songdo. Standards set by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System (the US Building Council’s international certification), were followed to ensure the development is as green as possible, with an eye on reducing emissions and energy waste.
