Packaging and Labelling of unbound (friable) asbestos •

Friable or Un-Bonded Asbestos e.g. Asbestos insulation

UN Approved FIBC with “a” warning label

EWC 170601* shall first be placed in red inner and clear outer asbestos bags, goose necked, taped and then be placed in FIBC bags. The FIBCs shall be goose necked, tied and taped. •

FIBCs must conform to UN standard 13H3/Y…….



All packages must be labelled using an asbestos A warning label as pictured to the right. The asbestos A warning label is to comply with the REACH directive



Please ensure that contents do not exceed the maximum permissible weight as referenced on the packaging.



The maximum permissible weight can be located at the end of the UN code.



All packed FIBCs must be kept clean and free of debris



No FIBCs will be accepted if there is loose material on the outside of the FIBCs

Packaging and Labelling of bound (non-friable) asbestos PACKING INTACT CEMENT BOUND ASBESTOS SHEETING •

Intact sheeting shall be double wrapped in minimum 1000 gauge polythene securely sealed with good quality tape (preferably 75mm duct tape), and banded to heavy duty four way euro-pallets (1200mm x 800mm).



If sheets are longer than 2m a minimum of two pallets must be used to support the load.



To prevent instability during transit corrugated sheeting and flat sheeting cannot be mixed in bales and must be baled separately.



A maximum of one tonne shall be placed in each bale.



A general rule of thumb is 25 sheets = ~1000kg.



The maximum acceptable dimensions of a pallet with sheeting is 4000mm x 1000mm x 700mm



All pallets of sheeting shall be level on top for stacking purposes.



Downpipes, gutters etc. must be placed in FIBCs or baled separately if oversized and not mixed with sheeting



All pallets of sheeting shall be labelled using the asbestos “A” warning label

All soil containing ACMs shall be placed in FIBC bags. The bags will be sift proof and water resistant or have a sift proof and water resistant liner.



The FIBCs shall be goose necked, tied and taped.



FIBCs must conform to UN standard 13H3/Z



All packages shall be labelled with asbestos A warning labels as pictured above (to comply with REACH).



All bags shall be weighed to ensure that contents do not exceed the permissible weight.



FIBCs shall be kept clean and free from any debris.
