s we celebrate turning 21, IFFF WELCOMES you to the historic Raleigh Studios in Hollywood, CA. Annually, IFFF highlights a new festival theme that greatly influences and guides its overall programming – this year’s theme, “Celebrating Women and the Stories They Inspire,” seems fitting as our nation shares in a collective discussion regarding the inclusion of women in leadership and support positons within our numerous political, corporate, religious and civic organizations. At this time, the drumbeat for gender equality beats loudly and attention must be paid. Over the past decade, a plethora of festivals have formed. The IFFF stands as the first and longest running international film festival devoted to the concept of a global family that advances the vision statement: To build a peaceful global family through the discovery and sharing of quality stories by emerging artists and productions companies. Much of this year’s festival presentation is dedicated to honoring women and the critical role they play in the film and television industries. The iconic women gracing the front cover of this program book are but a few of the hard-working and enormously talented women who have nurtured and built the strong foundation today’s film industry stands upon. They have left us a heritage of stories that only enrich and enliven all of our lives. At this year’s IFFF, women are front and center! Throughout Friday, Oct. 21st, the festival screens female-focused films and also teams up with the Alliance of Women Directors (AWD) for a panel discussion on how to increase the number of women directing films. Sunday Oct. 23rd, IFFF fetes Andrea Romano with the Friz Award (Excellence in the Animation Arts). She is one of the pre-eminent voice casting directors and a consummate professional responsible for casting some of the most successful animated film and TV properties of all time. Please join us in acknowledging their talents and applauding their careers.

Held over 4 days, the festival offers over 109 films from 13 countries presenting on 3 screens as well as films from 19 professionally accredited film schools. In addition, the festival will feature 14 finalist screenplays vying for top prizes in 5 categories. All films and screenplays compete, celebrate and honor the importance of family values through the stories they tell – it’s the hallmark of this unique family film organization.

Executive Staff

Since the festival’s beginnings, IFFF has showcased those more youthful creators and visionaries by proudly featuring the “IFFF YouthFest!,” a day-long program dedicated to those fresh films, screenplays and comic books created by youth ages 7-18. Workshops ranging from learning the craft of voice acting from master teacher Bill Farmer (Disney’s Goofy & Pluto, 2011 IFFF Friz Award Honoree) to discovering responsible management practices for getting your children into the film business are held, as well as screening over 24 films produced by youth both here and from abroad. By sharing the innovation and passion of these youth, one is reminded that the creative future of storytelling is in their capable hands and fertile imaginations. The future looks bright!

FESTIVAL OPERATIONS

IFFF thanks and applauds its loyal and engaging core of festival volunteers, sponsors, members, donors and friends. We steadily strengthen and grow as a result of your enthusiasm, encouragement and donations. Please take a moment to acknowledge these people, organizations and companies for their support and advocacy for family entertainment.

Kevin Paige

On behalf of the entire Board, Staff and supportive Sponsors and friends, we thank you for taking part in this year’s 21st annual IFFF. Give thanks to all the women in your life – they deserve our special recognition, as the scales of gender equality tip closer to parity.

March known as Bloody Sunday was a turning point in the Civil Rights Movement. John Lewis - now a revered U.S. Congressman, then a young student, co-led hundreds of peaceful marchers seeking voting rights for African Americans in the South. When they came face to face with a wall of club-wielding Alabama state troopers, Lewis took a steadfast, non-violent stand and inspired his followers to do the same. Graphic depictions of the ensuing assault were televised on the nightly news and shocked Americans to the core as they witnessed blatant racial oppression. Get in the Way is the first documentary film biography about Lewis, the civil rights icon, respected legislator and elder statesman who continues to practice nonviolence in his determined fight for justice. The film is a riveting portrayal of John Lewis’ personal journey of courage, searing disappointments and hard-won triumphs, as over the decades he inspires others to stand up and Get in the Way. “Sometimes you have to disturb the peoples’ sense of tranquility and create a little noise...” — John Lewis Production Company: Early Light Productions Executive Producer: Charles Floyd Johnson Consulting Producer: Donna Brown Guillaume Producer: Kathleen Dowdey Co-Producers: Jim Carr, Karen Elizabeth Price Director: Kathleen Dowdey Writer: Kathleen Dowdey Story Consultant: Jed Dannenbaum Director of Photography: Charles Schner Editor: Lillian Benson Music: Camara Kambon Cast: U.S. Representative John Lewis Running Time: 1:00 getinthewaymovie.com facebook.com/earlylightproductions
