The Marvel of This Night MASS CHOIR

“Before the Marvel of This Night”

Before the marvel of this night Adoring, fold your wings and bow, Then tear the sky apart with light And with your news the world endow. Proclaim the birth of Christ and peace, That fear and death and sorrow cease: Sing peace, sing peace, sing gift of peace!

Text: Jaroslav Vajda Music: Carl Schalk Organ: Mr. Kurt Rosenbaum Flute: Kayla Bebee, Alicia Borchardt Violin: Rachel Althoff, Hannah Althoff Horn: Mrs. Lara Johnson Awake the sleeping world with song, This is the day the Lord has made. Assemble here, celestial throng, In royal splendor come arrayed. Give earth a glimpse of heav’nly bliss, A teasing taste of what they miss: Sing bliss, sing bliss, sing endless bliss!

The love that we have always known, Our constant joy and endless light, Now to the loveless world be shown, Now break upon its deathly night. Into one song compress the love That rules our universe above: Sing love, sing love, sing God is love! 2

“The Dream Isaiah Saw”

Text: Thomas H. Troeger Music: Glenn L. Rudolph Organ: William Knight Piano: Ruth Buchholz Percussion 1: Kyle Henriksen Percussion 2: Bailey Michaels Trumpet: Sarah Unkefer, Luke Winterstein Horn: Mrs. Lara Johnson Trombone: Mikka Suhonen Tuba: Aaron Rosenbaum

Lions and oxen will sleep in the hay, Leopards will join with the lambs as they play, Wolves will be pastured with cows in the glade, Blood will not darken the earth that God made.

Peace will pervade more than forest and field: God will transfigure the violence concealed Deep in the heart and in systems of gain, Ripe for the judgment the Lord will ordain.

Little child whose bed is straw, Take new lodgings in my heart. Bring the dream Isaiah saw: Life redeemed from fang and claw.

Little child whose bed is straw, Take new lodgings in my heart. Bring the dream Isaiah saw: Justice purifying law.

Nature reordered to match God’s intent, Nations obeying the call to repent, All of creation completely restored, Filled with the knowledge and love of the Lord. Little child whose bed is straw, Take new lodgings in my heart. Bring the dream Isaiah saw: Knowledge, wisdom, worship, awe.

Chris de Silva Piano: Lyric Carmack Drum set: Kyle Henriksen Guitar: Luke Winterstein, William Knight Flute: Alicia Borchardt, Elizabeth Baxter Vocal Solos: Kristen Knappenberger, Mark Buchholz, Sarah Unkefer, Rachel Martz

Refrain: Magnificat anima mea Dominum. My soul sings glory to the Lord, My soul proclaims the greatness of our God. You look upon your servant, upon my lowliness, And ev’ry generation will call me blessed. O mighty God, my Savior, you do great things for me. Holy is God’s name. (Refrain) Your endless mercy lives with all those who honor you. With strength, you scatter all the proud of heart; Throw down the mighty rulers, exalt the lowly ones. Holy is God’s name. (Refrain) You feed the poor with good things; With nothing, the rich are cast. With mercy you remember Israel; The promise to our fathers, to Abraham. Amen. Holy is God’s name. (Refrain)

“What Child”

Arranger: Paul Loman Harp: Addy Sexton Organ: William Knight

What child is this, who, laid to rest, On Mary’s lap is sleeping? Whom angels greet with anthems sweet While shepherds watch are keeping? This, this is Christ the King, Whom shepherds guard and angels sing; Haste, haste to bring him laud, The babe, the son of Mary!

Why lies he in such mean estate Where oxen now are feeding? Good Christian, fear; for sinners here The silent Word is pleading. This, this is Christ the King, Whom shepherds guard and angels sing; Hail, hail the Word made flesh, The babe, the son of Mary!

So bring him incense, gold, and myrrh; Come, peasant, King to own him. The King of kings salvation brings; Let loving hearts enthrone him. This, this is Christ the King, Whom shepherds guard and angels sing; Joy, joy for Christ is born, The babe, the son of Mary!

“Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”

Charles Wesley

2. Christ, by highest heaven adored, Christ, the everlasting Lord, Late in time behold him come, Offspring of a virgin’s womb. Veiled in flesh the God-head see, Hail th’incarnate Deity! Pleased as man with man to dwell, Jesus, our Immanuel! Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King!”

1. Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King; Peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled!” Joyful all ye nations rise, Join the triumph of the skies; With th’angelic host proclaim, “Christ is born in Bethlehem!” Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King!”

3. Hail, the heavenly Prince of Peace! Hail, the Sun of Righteousness! Light and life to all he brings, Ris’n with healing in his wings. Mild he lays his glory by, Born that we no more may die. Born to raise us from the earth, Born to give us second birth. Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King!” 7

A CAPPELLA CHOIR

“Go Tell It on the Mountain”

Arranger: Joshua Shank

While shepherds kept their watching o’er silent flocks by night, Behold throughout the heavens there shone a holy light. Go, tell it on the mountain, Over the hills and ev’rywhere. Go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born. Down in a lowly manger the humble Christ was born; And God sent us salvation that blessed Christmas morn. Go, tell it on the mountain, Over the hills and ev’rywhere. Go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born. The shepherds feared and trembled when—lo!—above the earth Rang out the angel choir that hailed our Savior’s birth. Go, tell it on the mountain, Over the hills and ev’rywhere. Go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born. When I was just a seeker I sought both night and day. I sought the Lord to help me, and he showed me the way. Go, tell it on the mountain, Over the hills and ev’rywhere. Go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born.

Of the Father’s love begotten Ere the world began to be, He is Alpha and Omega, He the source, the ending, he.

Lo, how a Rose e’re blooming, From tender stem has sprung! Of Jesse’s lineage coming As saints of old have sung.

Of the things that are, that have been, And that future years shall see, Evermore and evermore!

It came a flowering bright, Amid the cold of winter, When half-spent was the night.

This is whom the godly prophets Chanted of in one accord; Whom the voices of the ancients Promised in their faithful word. And the Rose, the world’s Redeemer, Spread the fragrance of God’s grace, Evermore.

Isaiah ‘twas foretold it, The Rose I have in mind. With Mary we beheld it, The virgin mother kind. God gave to us a Savior, When half-spent was the night. Lo, how a Rose e’re blooming, Of the Father’s love begotten. 9

With the dawn of redeeming grace, Christ the Savior is born! Jesus, Lord, at thy birth. Alleluia. Silent night! Holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight; Glories steam from heaven afar. Heav’nly choirs sing: Alleluia! Christ the Savior is born! Jesus, Lord, at thy birth! Silent night! Holy night! All is calm, all is bright, Round yon virgin mother, and child. Holy Infant, so tender and mild. Sleep in heavenly peace. Son of God. Alleluia. Still, still night, Alleluia.
