Six Sigma

Discovering practice The program is divided in 3 to 5 assignments each with 6 to 12 month duration. During this structured program, you will experience different technical and engineering aspects of our company in the departments of Process Technology & Development (PT&D), Projects & Engineering, Product Application & Development and Manufacturing. You will be challenged to demonstrate your abilities in chemical, technical engineering or related subjects. Examples of some assignments are projects related to innovative separation techniques for water – organic systems, process intensification for reactor designs and improving mass-balances of current production units. The project assignments will help you gain insight into global and local businesses, while being involved in daily operations. Under the guidance of a mentor & personal coach (called sponsor in the program) your technical education will expand through practical experience working with highly advanced technologies (like process intensification) and first-class methodologies. Among them are for example FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis), C&E matrix (Cause & Effect matrix) and control charts within Six Sigma, TRIZ for innovative problem solving, out of the box idea generation and Root Cause Analysis for problem analysis.

Two Examples of Assignment Abstracts 1. Many processes utilize different washing / settling concepts. Many / most of the techniques are outdated. A survey should be done to make on overview of new techniques/methods available with relative merits / demerits. Learning objectives n

n

n

Learning basics of present washing / settling steps in current processes Learning effective way of performing a literature survey, contacting institutes and universities working on new settling / washing techniques Critical evaluation of available alternative techniques, how to determine relative merits / demerits (what are the selection criteria)

Development 2. At the Manufacturing plant models exists with mass and utility balances which are being used by technology and operation as a reference and to assess impact of (potential) process changes. These models need to create for new processes or need to be updated for existing processes. These models can then be used for daily operation and more specifically for technology department in order to identify options for yield, utility and waste consumption improvements. Learning objectives n

You will sharpen your technical/chemical expertise through working closely with process technology professionals on a day-to-day basis and you will shape your skills by participating in specific training modules. Diverse and ongoing training-on-the-job supports your professional and personal development during the EPCD Pipeline Development Program. More formal training includes i.e. Six Sigma (if not already subject of one of your assignments), Leadership Essentials, Finance Basics, Presentation Skills, TRIZ, and Root Cause Analysis. Additionally, you will be working on a Personal Development Plan. This is a tool for you to identify and communicate your personal learning and development goals. Eventually, by means of a Reflection Report you will look back on the accomplishment of your personal (learning) goals and professional development. On a regular basis you will meet with the other trainees and members of the program’s steering team, to discuss progress, special developments, challenges, issues, and to enable the program’s steering team to initiate any required follow up. Regular performance review sessions during and after each assignment will be offered to further guide your development. Your performance review will be based on pre-defined core competencies. Why this program?

Guidance

Momentive wants to attract and develop new technical talent to ensure that the organization is at all times staffed to meet the business growth targets and to cover gaps resulting from non-retention, organizational development or demographic situations.

You will not be on your own. You will handle projects fairly independently under the guidance of a Mentor, assigned to your specific assignment. He or she will be your main contact person whom will support and advice you during those 6 to 12 months.

It is desirable that the organization is equipped with sufficient, high quality resources to be able to anticipate unforeseen and foreseen situations to ensure the achievement of business targets. This program provides the opportunity to develop highly educated technical talent through the rotation of essential functions in the Technical environment, with the aim to retain trainees at the end of the program and build into future management and leadership positions. This will ultimately strengthen our organizational layers, and will enable innovation and future growth.

Additionally you will be assigned to a personal Sponsor from Momentive’s senior management who will help you achieve your individual goals through personal advice during the 30 month program. He or she will monitor the overall program and your progression during the trajectory.

After the program The Momentive EPCD Development Program aims to recruit and develop future Process Engineers, Process Technologists, Process Researchers, Production Engineers, and Research Analysts to keep the organization staffed with high quality resources to ensure a sustainable workforce and the achievement of business targets. In performing one of these roles after the program, you will be expected to: n
