As signage is now considered part of the physical environment it falls within the remit of this legislation. At Modulex we keep abreast with this important aspect of our business. Our consultants are trained to understand and consider the wider implications of the current legislation for our corporate clients. Through our network of offices in the USA, we also keep abreast of the developments of the ADA (American Disabilities Act) as this tends to filter through to UK regulations after a period of time. It is important to stress that adherence to best practice guidance does not necessarily ensure complete compliance with DDA. To fully comply, signage and wayfinding should be implemented as part of a wider access policy derived by the client. DDA best practice can be applied to any kind of sign – directional signage, day to day notices, door identification signs – anything that assists one’s use of the building. But it does not apply to any means of escape, hazard or health & safety signage as these types of signs have their own sets of rules under British/European rules.
