WELCOME I, along with the rest of my team at Arctic Kingdom, am excited to present our exclusive collection of Safaris, Expedition Cruises and Getaways throughout the Arctic designed to bring you as close as possible to the land, the wildlife and people – all in comfort and style. We continue to push the boundaries and pioneer new ways to see the Arctic up close and have added Expedition Cruise options to the best of Labrador, Baffin Island and Greenland. Also new for 2014 is the addition of the ‘Fly and Cruise Antarctica’. Just launched this year is our new Getaways to the Arctic. For those that are travelling to Canada and want to add it as an extension to their itinerary, or who already live in Canada and want to get a taste of the Arctic – we now offer quick 4 day Getaways to Iqaluit. Since 1999, we’ve been exploring the arctic hemisphere throughout the seasons, perfecting our understanding of locations, climate and wildlife populations. We travel to regions that, aside from scientific groups and local Inuit, have been virtually unexplored. Our itineraries, arctic experts and local Inuit guide support, provide you with access to some of the Arctic’s most memorable locations, all in utmost comfort. The intimate wildlife interactions, the Arctic’s breathtaking beauty and up-close encounters with Inuit culture, will leave you bitten by the bug of polar exploration and discovery. Experience the rugged Arctic in all its beauty, revel in its engulfing silence, powerful weather and the raw beauty thousands of miles removed from the cares and concerns of the “southern” world. This is the real arctic. And we are excited to welcome you! Yours in Arctic Adventure,

WHY THE ARCTIC WILDLIFE MECCA Likened to the Serengeti, the Arctic is a wildlife enthusiast’s haven. Ivory-tusked Narwhal, grinning belugas, majestic bowhead whales, thousands of migratory birds, to name a few – the Arctic is teeming with animals. You just need to know when and where to go.That’s where we come in. Our expert guides and local knowledge allow us to match ideal locations with the best time of year. The result? The best chance to get up close and personal with Arctic wildlife.

CULTURALLY RICH For thousands of years, Inuit have survived and thrived in this often harsh environment. Immerse yourself and discover the Inuit way of life.

ARCTIC SUMMER WARMTH In spring (May/June) the Arctic reawakens with blooming exotic purple saxifrage flowers and massive migrations of birds and whales. Summer brings fine days where t-shirt clad travellers bask on sun-kissed ice. It might drop below freezing that night, but we enjoy our Arctic summer days when we get them!

THE ARCTIC KINGDOM DIFFERENCE UNPARALLELED ACCESS

By travelling in small groups of 8-14 people, or using small vessels to pass silently by glaciers and below towering fiords, you truly embrace the Arctic wilderness. This allows you to enjoy the Arctic at your own pace, get to know fellow travelers and personalized attention by our staff and guides.

From land or ship or yacht or plane. For years we have worked closely with Inuit guides and developed lasting friendships, to bring the best of the Arctic to you. Through these friendships we’ve gained access and knowledge of the best locations, wildlife colonies and safe passageways, passed on through generations. You’ll also make new friends, while sharing stories, tracking wildlife and scanning the horizons for polar bears.

UTMOST COMFORT Having run multi-year, multi-month expeditions, we know that being comfortable and cozy is crucial to your experience. We define comfort as lounging on raised beds, dining on the freshest foods and relaxing in custom designed tents. This is what sets Arctic Kingdom apart from the rest – a luxury experience in the Arctic.

UNPARALLELED KNOWLEDGE We’ve aerially scouted the far reaches of the Arctic for hundreds of hours, have a decade’s worth of wildlife expeditions under our belt, and worked with the world’s leading wildlife and culture filmmakers. We can safely say no other company knows the Arctic better than Arctic Kingdom.

PEACE OF MIND The Arctic and Antarctica are beautiful, but as with any remote region, needs to be taken seriously. And we do. With a mix of traditional survival techniques and modern technology, our staff are well prepared to handle minor to major emergency scenarios. Our expedition leaders and staff are trained professionals, equipped with instant communication to our headquarters and local response teams. We will guide you out of your comfort zone and bring you back safely.

ABOUT OUR TRIPS

SMALL GROUPS

ARCTIC KINGDOM THINK AFRICAN SAFARI… IN THE ARCTIC Our land based trips are operated from either cabins, lodges or luxury safari style tented camps complete with wooden floors, heaters, electricity, super comfortable beds, goose down duvets, ample standing room, etc. – they are located on the sea ice a safe distance from the floe edge, or on a flat expanse of pebbly beach. Many of these locations have been used by Inuit for generations and are still used to this day. These remote camps are ready for you upon arrival and designed to provide you with ultimate comfort and functionality. Our custom built base camps vary but typically consist of a kitchen structure for our gourmet chef to call home, and a large central meeting and dining location. Separate washroom facilities provide a private spot to freshen up with running water, washbasins and hot showers.

CLOSE PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL COMMUNITIES Each trip begins in a local Inuit community, where we meet soap stone carvers, Inuit throat singers or drum dancers, and learn how seal skins are made into traditional clothing. Here you can ease into the Arctic environment welcomed by the friendly, local community. Arctic Kingdom local guides and elders have been travelling and living on the land all their lives. This knowledge is built into every one of our trips. We combine this traditional knowledge with the very latest in expedition equipment including satellite imagery for ice and wildlife tracking, rigid polar bear proof structures and the latest spotting scopes to ensure a safe and memorable Arctic experience.

SAFARI CAMPS, LODGES, & CABINS

SAFARI CAMPS, LODGES, & CABINS Safaris with Arctic Kingdom come in 3 accommodation styles – Safari Camps (Premium and Tented) Lodges and Cabins.

SAFARI CAMPS Arctic Kingdom is the pioneer of the Arctic Safari camp.

We have developed two styles of Safari camps:

Inspiration for our camps comes from the traditional camps of the Inuit, polar expeditions and African mobile tented safaris. Weaving together traditional and modern technology, we have pioneered the concept of the Arctic Safari.

PREMIUM SAFARI CAMP – a modern Yurt-style inspired camp with structures that have windows and doors, heaters and fully functioning shared washrooms with hot showers. TENTED SAFARI CAMP - these are large high grade expedition tents – specially customized for Arctic Kingdom with an outer and in inner insulation wall and over 8’ tall. They may look like tents but each tent still has a full bed with mattresses, pillows and blankets just like you have at home. Set up on land or directly on the sea ice, the Premium Safari Camp and Tented Safari Camps are set up seasonally, from 1 to 4 weeks in order to time a specific wildlife encounter. They are set up prior to your arrival and at the end of the short season, dismantled by Arctic Kingdom and sent back to our local community storage facility leaving only footprints behind.

AUG 27 TO SEPT 3, 2013 AUG 31, SEPT 7, 2014 8 DAYS

One of the largest herds in North America, the Quamirjuaq caribou herd roams the tundra of western Hudson Bay. In the late summer, the caribou are spread out over the Barrenlands of southwestern Nunavut, with the beautiful tundra background of crimson reds, vibrant yellows and shimmering oranges. The caribou will be seen in groups of 1 to 20 at a time. There will be mothers with young calves along with males with their fully-grown velvet racks. Flying from Yellowknife we land at a remote lodge on Ennedai Lake. We will conduct day trips from the lodge by boat and by foot to look for opportunities to photograph the caribou swimming in water or grazing on the tundra. We may also see muskox, barrenland grizzly, tundra wolf and with any luck, black bears and possibly wolverines. From local guides who know the traditional routes of the caribou, to shimmering northern lights in the evening, to the silence of the tundra broken by the hooves of caribou, this late summer/early autumn Arctic photographic safari will surprise and delight at every step.

ITINERARY DAY 1 Two hour private plane flight from Yellowknife to the lodge DAY 2-6 Day trips by aluminum boat onto the tundra in search of the caribou. ABOARD THE SEA ADVENTURER EXPEDITION CRUISES

JULY 13 - 23, 2014 11 DAYS

Midnight sun, marvelous creatures, and endless landscapes are part of the lure of the North. Our classic Arctic expedition explores the North’s unique cultural, historical and natural legacy. From Kangerlussuaq, Greenland we sail down one of its longest fjords, crossing the Arctic Circle to call in at the splendid town of Ilulissat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A Zodiac cruise into the ice-fjord, where icebergs calve from the massive icecap, will amaze. Crossing Davis Strait, to Baffin Island, with its winding fjords, we’ll encounter one of the world’s most dramatic coastlines. We’ll visit the sheer bird cliffs of Bylot and Prince Leopold Island and watch for whales in the ocean trench along Isabella Bay. New friends await in the vibrant Inuit community of Mittimatalik (Pond Inlet). Our local hosts—elders, school kids, and community leaders eagerly showcase their home. We’ll learn firsthand how communities are striking a balance between modernity, and centuries of tradition.

AUGUST 2 - 12, 2014 11 DAYS

Summer north of the Arctic Circle: endless days among rugged mountains, sweeping tundra, vast glaciers and pristine water. On Beechey Island, the graves of Franklin expedition explorers testify to the lure of the high Arctic— and to its unforgiving terms. Yet at summer’s peak, the top of the world is rich with life. On Prince Leopold Island, seabirds swoop in vast flocks: Thick-billed Murres, Northern Fulmars and Black-legged Kittiwakes circle overhead. Isabella Bay is a pristine feeding ground for threatened bowhead whales. The fjords of Baffin Island are an ideal place to seek out whales, walrus and seals. At Pond Inlet, visitors awestruck by the beauty of nearby Bylot Island meet local hosts who proudly showcase their culture, with Inuit games and throat singing. In Greenland, soaring mountains, epic icefields, and seemingly endless Kangerlussuaq Fjord surround cozy communities of cheerfully painted houses—a fitting coda to the symphony of summer, north of sixty degrees!

VARIOUS DATES: NOV 2013 - MARCH 2014

Flying over Cape Horn and the mythical waters of the Drake Passage, Arctic Kingdom invites you to a unique experience that will take you to one of the most remote and beautiful places on earth, the coldest, highest, windiest, driest, and most inhospitable continent – Antarctica. We have eliminated sailing the Drake Passage from this epic trip and will whisk you away from Punta Arenas and King George Island in comfort and style aboard our jet service. Antarctica is an ecological wonder that bewitches explorers, scientists and voyagers alike. Antarctica has the singularity of being the continent of remaining hidden from man for the longest period of time; its first visitors only arrived at these virgin frozen lands only two hundred years ago. Its beauty contrasts with extreme climate conditions, all of which makes it an exotic destination, truly hypnotizing for those few that reach this far away corner of the universe.

ITINERARY DAY 1: DAY 2:

Punta Arenas Fly Across the Drake Passage, landing at King William Island

DAYS 3–6: Cruise between the South Shetland Islands and the western coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, sailing along ice-filled fjords and among spectacular icebergs, while enjoying the company of sea birds, penguins, seals and whales. Each day, disembark by Zodiac and explore the landscape together with expert polar guides. On board the ship, attend an engaging program of lectures and presentations, and enjoy spectacular vistas from the glass-enclosed lounge while sharing your daily adventures with fellow guests. DAY 7:

King George Island to Punta Arenas

The temperatures vary slightly between December and January, hovering around the freezing point. The weather can be very unpredictable in Antarctica, so layers are important.

While we are do our best, we cannot guarantee that we will see all the wildlife referenced in our trip specific marketing material. Itinerary Our itineraries are intended as an example only. Participants should allow for flexibility due to changes in weather, natural history or cultural events, or other logistical arrangements deemed necessary by Arctic Kingdom or our staff. While every effort will be made to adhere to the planned itinerary, it must be realized that with this type of adventurous travel to remote regions impacted by severe and unpredictable weather and ice conditions. Many of our camps and the animal populations we seek are far from any one townís landing strips and may in fact be equidistant to another town. Should it be decided that animals are better accessed from a different point or region, changes of itinerary may include a change of destination. Inuit Animal Harvesting Our trips position ourselves in areas with large concentrations of animals. We use the most experienced local hunters as guides and occasionally find ourselves in the same areas as local Inuit hunting parties. We support the aboriginal native right to hunt as part of a lifestyle that has supported the Inuit people over thousands of years in one of the harshest climates on earth. We enjoy the hospitality of the people of the North and have established valuable relationships of trust and mutual respect. Occasionally on our trips there may be hunting activity relatively near to our camps. It is forbidden to take photographs unless there has been previously arranged local consent, of these activities as the images, if improperly used, could cause substantial harm to the Inuit people and their traditional way of life. Images & Wildlife Marketing materials contain photographs that depict typical locations, scenes and animals that may be viewed on an Arctic Kingdom trip. Imagery may not be a specific representation of the equipment we may use, animals we may see or weather conditions we may experience. The sightings of wildlife on the trip can vary and are not guaranteed. Photography Arctic Kingdom reserves the right to take photographic records on trips for promotional purposes, and travelers grant Arctic Kingdom express permission to use their images for such purposes. Group Size The maximum number of participants per group does not include the trip leaders, guides, or other staff. Should only one space remain on a trip, it is our policy to accept two persons traveling together, even if it exceeds the stated trip maximum.
