April 2016 93 Ki – 1st Quarter

“Welcome” Tadayuki Oke, President

Issue 30 36

Notes off the Cuff ………

Gary Hand, VP

Some thoughts on some current activities……. As you know, we have a change in our company president position, effective April 1. I am very happy and proud to have worked with Koji over the last 10 years at HTM in both DTX project and current role. When I think back over this time period, the significant changes in products and our facility are truly amazing, Thanks to Koji for his help and leadership. I will always appreciate his Honda Passion and Challenging Spirit. and offer him the best towards his future. Mr. Oke, our new President, has some familiarity with Ohio and our operations, as he has previously worked at Anna Engine Plant and has supported HTM during our 4WD start up. Since his arrival at HTM, we have been providing him a lot of information on our current situation and our future plans. I feel he has a true passion to help us continue our path to be the leader in Drivetrain manufacturing. Facility update……continuing from the announcement at our New Year’s meeting, we are now preparing for our next new transmission product, which will be assembled in bay 5 (current location of 4WD Assembly). Therefore, 4WD Assembly lines will move to original assembly room (previous line 1 and current line 2 area) starting with Rear Diff line moving over this Summer shutdown and Front Transfer moving in September. Preparation and several facility renovation activities are currently taking place in this area. Industry update….. With sales results through March, 2016. The seasonal average annual sales rate fell to 16.6 million, a 13-month low. American Honda sales results were +9.4% for the month and +7.1% year to date, as compared to March 2015. For reference, industry is up 3.3% year to date. Accord and Civic remain in the top 10 selling vehicles (Civic #6, Accord #8), whereas CRV, facing tough competition, slipped to #14. Average inventory is above the ideal level ahead of the spring buying season.

Thanks to all associates for your continuous dedication and support of high quality products. Best regards to all !

Mr. Oke has been with Honda for 35 years. He started his career with Honda at the Sayama Plant in Japan, working in the Equipment Service Group. He has also worked at the Anna Engine Plant and most recently, at the Tochigi Mocha Plant in Japan where he served as the General Manager. Mr. Oke’s first official day at HTM was Friday, April 1, 2016. On that day, he addressed all HTM associates during plant wide associate meetings. During those meetings, he stated, “I know that all associates have worked hard in the past several years to improve your company characteristics. You have also continued to increase your knowledge and experience and have successfully launched new products such as LL-CVT and i-VTM 4WD. Today, HTM is regarded as the most experienced transmission plant in North America.” He continued by saying, “I have been briefed and understand that we have many challenges facing us. My expectation is we will continue to keep improving our company characteristics and use our own know-how to develop and achieve smooth production start-up for new products, 10 AT, Co-Axial Transfer, and HEV Transmission.” In closing, he stated, “I have been told that you are an enthusiastic, resultsdriven team. I have all the confidence in this team and I am looking forward to utilizing the talents of all associates in this team to realize our success. I am looking forward to working with you and leading this HTM team.” Please join me in welcoming Mr. Oke to HTM.

I would like to say thank you to all associates at HTM that have made my 11 years, here, very successful and enjoyable. Over these 11 years, I have had an opportunity to engage with many associates and I appreciate all of the support you have given to continue to help make HTM a successful company within Honda. As I return to Japan for my new assignment at the Tochigi Plant, I continue to wish success to HTM and all HTM associates. I also ask that you support HTM’s new President, Mr. Tadayuki Oke as much as you have supported me and I challenge all associates to continue to improve HTM and make 2016 the best year ever. Again, thank you for sharing your experiences, for your friendship, and for all your hard work.

What is Ergo Cup ? The 19th Annual Applied Ergonomic Conference was recently held at the Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida. The HTM Assembly team, "Dream Builders“ was accepted and participated in this year’s Ergo cup competition. The team, Dustin Robinson and Brittney McBeth (with Chris Carnes' support) did a great job in presenting their project to the judges and the hundreds of other attendees. Over 800 people registered and attended this year's event. Teams attended from Australia, Romania, Poland, Mexico, Malaysia, Canada, and of course throughout the U.S. Over 70 Ergo Cup teams originally applied with only 30+ teams getting accepted. HTM's team being accepted was a major accomplishment on their own merits. They also competed in the largest category (17 teams) -"Team Driven Workplace Solutions I, with internal run off“.

Overall, Honda was, again, well represented at the competition with teams from ELP; AEP; HMA; HCM (2); HSC and HTM - continuing to send a high safety / ergonomics message throughout.

In the Fall of 2015, the Tech Center “Palace Techs” NH Circle worked on a project to improve the landscape surrounding the Tech Center building. Members of the group included: Aaron Shumaker, Brad Davenport, Jim Parker and Brian Mullenhour. The group worked with H&H Maintenance to develop a design plan and once completed, it was presented to management for approval. The plan consisted of removing shrubs, a dying ash tree, adding topsoil, planting new grass, installing a new outside break area, lining the walkway with white stone, and boulders and the design and installation of a new Technical Center sign. The planting of an Earth Day Tree completed the project. Brad Davenport, Aaron Shumaker, Brian Mullenhour, Jim Parker, & Kylie Huber

A big “Thanks” to the Palace Techs for a well done project! -10-

30 HTM Associates and their spouses participated in the HTM Hero Program in the 92 Ki. Associates volunteered their time to a non profit organization supporting counties throughout Ohio

Do you or your spouse volunteer a minimum of 50 hours to an eligible 501(C) (3) organization? HTM will give that non-profit organization a $250 check per 12 month period, on behalf of you and your spouse for volunteering! What a way to support and help out your community.

HTM is a sponsor of Doors of Encouragement, a fundraiser for the Logan County Cancer Society, which is a United Way Agency. This event provides an opportunity to paint and decorate doors that will be displayed in downtown Bellefontaine starting April 4th. We had 8 entries (22 associates) that entered the contest. The two doors that were chosen, below, were submitted by Mickey Shoffner, Trenton Green, Dan Napier, JB Kirkendall and Greg McElroy and Caty Michael. There was a 3 rd design submitted by Adam Kuhn and Justin Dulebohn chosen to be framed and hung in the hallway corridor. A donation will be made to the Logan County Cancer Society in the winners’ names.

The HTM Recreation Committee hosted the HTM Children’s Easter Party that was held March 13th, 2016 at Indian Lake Elementary school. Although the weather did not cooperate for an outdoor Easter egg hunt, we made the best of it by holding the hunt indoors. The egg hunt was held for multiple age groups and each egg had candy and a chance to win prizes such as water guns, pogo sticks, scooters, riding toys, games, etc. Associates and their guests entered the school to a greeting from the Easter Bunny himself and received a chocolate bunny and a complimentary photo. COSI on Wheels was also present to allow children to explore their scientific skills. Super Games set the gym for a carnival atmosphere where children could try their luck at multiple different games to win small prizes such as Yo-Yo’s, temporary tattoos, rubber bouncy balls, etc. There were also bounce houses and inflatable obstacle courses to entertain. Wii interactive games were also a big hit with the kids. In addition to the carnival games, the event had carnival food such as popcorn, cotton candy, snow cones , a variety of cookies, cupcakes and drinks. The event was well received by all who attended and the Recreation Committee thanks you for attending and for all the nice compliments we received for the event.
