THE POST: Drama Teacher THE DEPARTMENT Connah's Quay High School is looking to appoint a skilled and enthusiastic teacher of drama to join a lively, dynamic and successful PE & Performance curriculum area. The successful applicant will preferably have skills/experience in another performing area e.g. dance. The curriculum area consists of PE, drama and music, with staff contributing to teaching in KS3 and KS4. The successful candidate will be able to teach effectively across both key stages, including examination courses and be happy to contribute to extra-curricular opportunities such as the annual school production. Subject details Key Stage 3 In Year 7 we introduce the learners to necessary skills such as characterisation, frozen images, narration, stage skills, building of atmosphere, communication skills and confidence building. We introduce them to various scripts and the presentation of them. In Year 8 we look at dramatic techniques such as flashback and split stage, transitions and dramatic irony, oracy through character representation. This leads on to further stage skills. In year 9 learners choose an option of Art, Photography, Drama and Music allowing for two hours a week of drama. This is great preparation for GCSE Drama. Here we look at Documentary Drama which utilises extended literacy skills for the necessary research and assimilation of materials. We also look at the structure of a good piece of drama and work on devising extended pieces. We also work on physical theatre. Key Stage 4 Learners follow the WJEC GCSE Drama specification. This requires students to be able to perform a devised piece of work and perform from a script in groups. These need to be different in style and genre and an awareness of the leading theatre practitioners and genres and theatre companies is necessary. Trips to the theatre are required for an evaluation of a live theatre production. A controlled assessment and a final exam on a specific set text are also required. A portfolio of evidence must be undertaken. Accommodation There is one main teaching classroom with a stage, lighting and audio systems. Included is a projector and interactive whiteboard. There is also a lecture theatre/performance studio that includes seating, sound systems a projector and large projection screen.
