If you desire to begin a career in a skilled craft or trade, the Applied Technology and Apprenticeship Department offers a variety of general certificate programs. Combining theoretical and practical classroom and lab instruction, these popular programs will prepare you for an entry-level position in the area of your choice.

Associate of Applied Science Degree

Following completion of an Applied Technology General Certificate Program, you may earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Building Construction Technology, Maintenance Technology, or Manufacturing Technology. Completion of Arts and Sciences (general education) requirements is mandatory; electives may also be necessary, depending on the number of credit hours included in the general certificate program of your choice. A minimum of 62 credit hours is required to earn an AAS Degree.

Pre-Engineering at Macomb Community College

What is Pre-Engineering?

The ingenuity of Engineering can be seen in the Pyramids of Egypt, the Parthenon in Greece, the Colosseum in Rome, and the Great Wall of China. But it can also be seen much closer: in the car you drive, the bridges you cross, the plane you board, the technology you use and even the fibers in the clothes you wear. Macomb’s Pre-Engineering Program is your gateway to a career in Engineering, as well as a great opportunity to discover if there is one branch of Engineering you may want to specialize in.

The Program

The Pre-Engineering Program at Macomb is designed to provide students with the basic competencies, knowledge, and skills required to transfer to a baccalaureate degree program in Engineering. In the Pre-Engineering Program, you will take a variety of courses specific to your selected major, including: 77 General Chemistry 77 Analytic Geometry & Calculus 77 College Physics 77 Introduction to Engineering 77 Engineering Computer Elective 77 Introduction to Linear Algebra 77 Differential Equations

Renewable Energy Technology

Renewable Energy and the Technology Certificate Renewable energy is generated from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, and geothermal heat—all of which are naturally replenished, thus contributing to the reduction of waste and pollution, ultimately benefiting the environment for all the world’s citizens.

The Renewable Energy Technology Certificate at Macomb provides the knowledge and skills required for positions involving the integration of renewable energy applications in a variety of business and industrial environments. The certificate focuses on a “holistic” approach, emphasizing the importance of scientific principles coupled with industrial processes, professional proficiencies, and practical laboratory experiences.

The Program

The Renewable Energy Technology Certificate is designed to complement several existing program paths, including associate degrees in Automated Systems Technology— Mechatronics, Maintenance Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Building Construction Technology, Electronic Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, Business, Environmental Science, and others. The Renewable Energy Technology Certificate is not intended as a stand-alone certificate. Students are highly recommended to complement the above degree programs with the Renewable Energy Technology Certificate to increase employability skills. Apprenticeship and Employee-inTraining Programs at Macomb Community College How It Works--For You and Your Employees! The Applied Technology and Apprenticeship Department at Macomb Community College offers training program solutions that provide immediate and long-term benefits to employer and employee alike: 77 Increased productivity 77 Enhanced employee safety 77 Reduced turnover 77 Paid employment and college credits earned during on-the-job Training 77 Earned credits can be applied toward Associate of Applied Science Degree at Macomb Community College 77 Learning skills most needed by the employer increases the employee’s value

Apprenticeship Programs Apprenticeship programs combine on-the-job training with theoretical and practical classroom and lab instruction. Individual employers, along with joint apprenticeship committees, set employment standards and employ apprentices in their respective trades. Upon program completion, the apprentice is awarded a Dept. of Labor certificate and a Macomb Community College Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship, signifying that he or she is a skilled craftsman or tradesman.

Employee-in-Training Programs Solely regulated by the individual employer, employee-in-training programs often follow the same educational plans as apprenticeship programs, but offer the employer a greater degree of flexibility in terms of course selections and specifications of on-the-job training. Upon completion the program, the employee is awarded a Macomb Community College Certificate of Completion signifying that he or she is skilled in the particular craft or trade designated by the employer.
