Primary Position Objective The primary role of this position is to undertake all aspects of maintenance, repair and upgrade and/or rebuild of track to ensure the Infrastructure is maintained in accordance with the Regulators Standards.

Working Environment TasRail is a State-owned Company, established on 1 December 2009 by an Act of the Tasmanian Parliament. The principal objectives of the Company are to operate a rail business in Tasmania effectively and efficiently; to operate with sound commercial practices; and to maximise sustainable returns to its Shareholder Members, being the Minister for Infrastructure and the Treasurer. The Shareholder Members have agreed a Statement of Expectations for TasRail. This document sets out the Tasmanian Government’s broad policy expectations and requirements for the business, and it should be read in conjunction with the Rail Company Act 2009; Rail Safety Act 2009; Rail Infrastructure Act 2007; and Government Business Enterprise Act 1995. Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities The functions of the position require the Track Maintainer:          

As directed remove, repair and reinstate track defects and anomalies so as to address the TasRail Track Maintenance Standards. Identify and report rail infrastructure defects and workplace hazards. Practice Occupational Safety and Health and Rail Safety requirements in the work place. Ensure all maintenance workers and contractors are appropriately inducted and have Use of light powered equipment Operate self-propelled on track equipment Be available for emergency work and planned additional overtime work. Adopt safe work practices and take environmental care. Be accountable for the quality of work undertaken. Must be of good health and fitness and in all other respects to be a fit and proper person to perform rail safety work as defined in the TasRail rail safety legislation and must hold a certificate of competency.

Must participate in periodical health assessments at the intervals prescribed (otherwise the rail safety worker/s must be withdrawn from duty until the appropriate health assessment is completed). Are responsible for advising TasRail of impairment due to medication, both prescribed or over the counter medication. Must request a referral to an Authorised Health Professional if they are concerned about their ability to perform their work safely due to health reasons.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience The occupant of this position will ideally possess the following characteristics: Essential        

Ability to obtain the qualifications and competencies associated with the Track Maintainer Learning Pathway. Current Drivers Licence Medically Fit (ability to obtain a Category 1 Rail Medical in accordance with the National standard for a Rail Safety Worker). Trach Safety Awareness Fatigue Management Induction Good written and verbal communication skills; Able to work autonomously with a motivated approach and the capability to plan, organise and prioritise whilst at times working under pressure; Commitment to a zero injury safe working culture;
