Committee members would like to extend a big thank you to our sponsors who provide support and funding to bring so many attractions to the annual festival. Also, a huge thank you to all of our volunteers, the Nappanee Chamber of Commerce, the City of Nappanee, and the local residents. Have fun and enjoy the festival!

2016 Grand Marshals Meet Larry & Char Wagner

Larry Wagner is a “hometown boy” having lived all his life in Nappanee (except during 1945 when his army dad was stationed in San Antonio, TX). The city population was 1500 when he was growing up; and he remembers his dad, mailman Donald Wagner, knew just about everyone and where they lived in town. Also, Nappanee only had one police car and usually one person working each shift. “But it was a great place to grow up,” he said. Larry played in the FFA State Band his junior and senior years and was a 1955 Nappanee HS graduate. He always planned on living around the area with the hopes of getting into some type of business. He first went to work for the NYC RR in Elkhart (1956 - 1962) and during that time married Jane Unsicker, Bremen, in 1958. From 1962 - 1970 he sold insurance for Metropolitan Life. Then, that desired business proposal came his way! He and Jane were offered an acquisition opportunity for Wise Town and Country Furniture. They had the business acumen as the venture doubled each year for the first three years and eventually afforded them a new store at 1200 E. Market Street in 1984. The name was changed to L. J. Wagner Home Interiors (“L” for Larry; “J” for Jane). Jane and Larry parented two children, Cheryl Wagner Yoder and Steven Wagner, plus two grandchildren, Heath Yoder and Haley Jane Yoder Burkhart, and three great grandchildren. Jane passed away suddenly in 2001. Larry married Char Reynolds in 2005. Char grew up in Otterbein, IN, went to Ball State University, married Denny Reynolds in 1970 and moved to Wakarusa. To that union Char and Denny had two children, Brandi and Bradley. Denny passed away in 1983. Char worked for Wakarusa Medical Clinic for 15 years. She enjoys decorating and has done store windows and displays since high school. Larry has served on many committees and as president of the following: Nappanee Jaycee’s, Noon Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce and WaNee School Board; also Nappanee Missionary Church, Your Worship Hour radio program with Q. J. Everest, Missionary Men’s Association for the Missionary Church, USA and Hubbard Hill Retirement Community, Elkhart. Additionally he was a Gideon and served on the Elkhart County Mental Health Board. Larry and Char enjoy winters in Florida and he has served as president of the Martinique South Condo Association, FL. While in the sunshine state, he continues to be active in the West Coast Mummers String Band. Larry has strong ties to the Apple Festival as he helped form and serve on the first Nappanee Apple Festival committee. 3
