GENERAL What is AP Video-US? AP Video-US is a professional video portal that offers a daily selection of top news from the U.S. and around the world. Videos are available in various formats and across many content categories. The site is separated into Newsroom Ready and Consumer Ready. Premium content is also available in Celebrity Extra and Spanish. Access to AP Video-US requires a subscription. Back to questions

How do I access AP Video-US? Visit www.APVideoUS.com. Videos can only be viewed and downloaded with an active subscription. To log in, please use your User ID and Password. If you have not yet created an individual User ID and Password, please use the registration ID and Password from your Welcome Letter. Please Contact Us for help with your account information. VIDEO CONTENT What is the difference between Newsroom Ready and Consumer Ready? Newsroom Ready is generally loosely-edited and unvoiced video, without graphics. Video can be customized by editing elements and even branded as your own. Videos are available in HD broadcast quality 1080i60 format. April 17, 2013

Consumer Ready is fully-produced video with lower-third graphics, and often with reporter tracks. Videos are available in several formats for digital and mobile use. In addition, premium Spanish and Celebrity Extra videos are also available. Back to questions

What is video Type? –

VO (or V/O): Natural sound video that can be voiced over by an anchor.



SOT: Sound on tape; one or multiple sound bites edited together.



VOSOT (or VO/SOT): A combination of VOs and SOTs, natural sound video and sound bites. For Newsroom Ready, this is a loose edit because it has all of the elements needed to edit and customize. For Consumer Ready, the video generally contains everything to tell the story without a reporter track.



PACKAGE: A fully-edited video including pre-recorded narration. For Newsroom Ready, there is a split audio track with reporter audio on its own channel. A suggested script is included allowing a customer to customize and edit, if desired. For Consumer Ready, the video is fully contained.

COVERAGE OUTLOOKS What are Coverage Outlooks? The Coverage Outlook provides a list of planned coverage of AP Video-US content. Videos available in Newsroom Ready are designated with (NR) and videos available in Consumer Ready are designated with (CR). Coverage Outlooks are available on AP Video-US, the AP Broadcast Wire, and via email. To view on the site, click the Coverage Outlook link in the top navigation to open the Coverage Outlook page or browse in the left navigation. Coverage Outlook section in the left navigation can be minimized/maximized. Back to questions

How do I change my Email Notification setting? To receive Coverage Outlooks via email, select “On” in your Profile or the left navigation. You can also turn this “Off”.

SEARCHING FOR VIDEOS How do I search for videos? There are three ways to find videos in either Newsroom Ready or Consumer Ready: –

Browse the Most Recent content to find the latest videos in each category.



Browse a Category for the latest videos in that section.



Perform a Search to find a specific video or topic.

How do I change my results preferences? Preferences will apply to all pages and can be changed at any time. –

Videos populate in either the Thumbnail View or Detail View.



View by: All Available, Last 24 Hours, Last 48 Hours, Last 7 Days



View by: Relevance, Newest, Oldest



Results Per Page: 20, 40

How do I set my Landing Page? Click Make this my landing page at the top right of a page to make it your default Landing Page. Upon logging in, you will be brought to this page. This page can also be accessed from the site’s top navigation. It can be changed at any time. Back to questions

PREVIEWING VIDEO Can I preview a video before download? Yes, all content on the site can be previewed. The video can be previewed by clicking on the video thumbnail and the Details page. To get from the thumbnail view to the Details page, click the Title link below the thumbnail. Back to questions

How does the video player work? The HTML5 player lets you view a video from a thumbnail or the Details page. The player allows you to start, pause, adjust volume, fast forward, rewind and play the video again. The video player can even be expanded to full screen and is compatible with iOS devices. How do I share a video with another user? Option 1: Hover over a video thumbnail, select the Share icon. Option 2: On the Details page, select the Share icon. The email contains a direct link to the video’s Details page. You can edit the email message. Users must be logged in to view the video.

DOWNLOADING VIDEO Which videos are available to download? Users can preview all videos on the site: Newsroom Ready, Consumer Ready, Celebrity Extra and Spanish. However, plans vary in terms of the amount and which content can be downloaded. Videos that are outside of your plan are clearly marked with a dollar sign and Not Available for Download. How do I download a video? Open the video’s Details page by clicking on the Title link below the thumbnail. Click Download below the video player. Depending on the video you are downloading, there may be different file formats to choose from. You will receive a message asking you to Confirm Download. Back to questions

What happens if I reach my organization’s download limit? If you reach your organization’s download limit and attempt to download additional video, you will receive one of two messages: Confirm Additional Purchase or Download Limit Reached. If you are asked to Confirm Additional Purchase, your organization will be charged a pre-determined incremental fee. The incremental fee is the same for any video downloaded. If you receive the message Download Limit Reached, you will not be able to download additional videos until the following month. Back to questions

How long can I use a video? Videos are posted to AP Video-US daily and will remain available for download for 10 days. Videos can be used for 30 days after being posted to the portal, unless the video restrictions or your contract with AP specify otherwise. Back to questions

How can I view my organization’s Download History? Under Welcome, select Download History. This page allows you to see all downloads performed by your organization in the current month, as well as downloads performed throughout the prior year. All videos downloaded are listed here, including duplicates, incremental/additional purchases and downloads within your normal monthly subscription. Video details are also available on this page: Title, Date (posted), Download Date, Download Type, and Download Format. Back to questions

What happens if I download the same video more than once? Duplicate downloads only count once against your monthly download meter, even if a video is downloaded in multiple formats. Back to questions

What is Download Type? Download Type is one of the following options: –

Subscription: This video is a standard download within your plan.



Duplicate: This video has already been downloaded by your organization.



Incremental: This video is an additional download (and fee) to your subscription.

FAVORITES How do I access videos in Favorites? From the top navigation, select Favorites. Back to questions

How do I save a video to Favorites? Option 1: Hover over a video thumbnail, select the Favorites icon. Option 2: On the Details page, select the Favorites icon. Once selected, the icon becomes yellow and will show the icon on any page the video can be located. The video is now available on the Favorites page.

How do I remove videos from Favorites? –

Remove videos by selecting the Favorites yellow icon from any page the video is located.



Videos can also be removed from the Favorites page by selecting the icon or selecting the desired videos and choosing Remove from Favorites at the top left of the page.
