An interesting and historic photograph album compiled by Godfrey "Geoffy" Thwaites, of the Coniston Water Speed Trials by Sir Malcolm Campbell (1885-1948) and Donald Campbell (1921-1967). "Geoffy" Thwaites was a forester at lake Coniston and was boatman to the Campbell's at their various speed trials, he was also a friend of the Chief Mechanic, he died in 1979. This lot comprises a signed presentation photograph on board probably taken in August 1949 of the Bluebird K4 with Donald and Daphne Campbell onboard together with other members of the team, "Geoffy" Thwaites is in a rowing boat on the left hand side of the photograph. With presentation inscription "To Geoffy with sincere good wishes from us all", signed by Donald Campbell, Daphne Campbell, Leo Villa, C J Clark, A Adams, Ted Indelman(?), S Masterton, Sid Randall, Harry Leech and L F Villa. The album comprises forty-five photographs relating to Sir Malcolm and Donald Campbell's speed trials and includes a signed photograph of Donald Campbell in the Bluebird K4 at speed, inscribed "To Geoffy with my sincerest thanks for the part he played in this venture Donald Campbell", another of Donald Campbell seated in K4's cockpit with Daphne Campbell taking a photograph of him

Tadeusz Was (Waszewski) (1912-2005); abstract figures in a landscape, 'Soot Cut', pencil signed, 22x18cm. NB: Whilst Tadeusz was out in the desert he held an orange peel over an oil lamp. The soot turns the peel a dead black and on contact with paper produced a perfect impression of the surface. Now he experimented by covering a metal sheet with a thin layer of soot and drawing on the surface with sticks and brushes. This part of the technique easy, what proved more difficult and took years of research to discover was a way of treating the paper to make the image of soot permanent. Eventually he succeeded and over the years he produced a succession of startling monoprints, known as 'Soot Cuts' (illustrated) Estimate: £400.00 - £600.00
