ANNE OF GREEN GABLES Synopsis

Marilla and Matthew (brother and sister) decide to adopt a boy to help with the farm chores, as Matthew is getting older. The orphanage mistakenly sends Anne. Matthew is so surprised that he takes her home to let Marilla explain to the girl why she cannot stay. But on the drive home Matthew becomes fond of Anne and asks his sister to consider keeping her. Marilla has no intention of doing so until they get to a friend’s house, where a woman offers to take Anne with her as a servant. Her reputation for harshness, plus Matthew’s feelings, convinces Marilla to give it a try. Anne stumbles into one mess after another, and her liveliness wins over Marilla although she would never acknowledge it. Anne is a happy person and though she loves both Matthew and Marilla does not give it a great deal of thought until she has to choose between going on with her own life, or taking care of those she loves.
