Animal Care and Dog Grooming Choose to study an animal care course at Kirkley Hall and you’ll get to learn in a fantastic environment, one that can’t be rivalled in the North East. The Animal Management Centre that supports Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens, is zoo-licensed and houses over 130 domestic, exotic, zoological and aquatic species including lemurs, marmosets, tamarins, Goeldi's monkeys, coatis, capybara, many reptiles and avian species, wallabies, rheas and maras. You will also have access to a fully equipped canine grooming parlour and a live veterinary practice on-site. Brand-new for 2014 is our Aquatics Centre which includes fish and amphibians from the vast coral reefs of Indonesia to the brackish estuaries flowing from the Amazon. You will be taught all about animals and their behaviour and how to design and build animal enclosures, from a highly experienced

and knowledgeable lecturing and animal keeper team. The college, one of only three colleges in the UK to achieve full membership of BIAZA, recently received two Blue Cross Animals in Education awards. The Kirkley Hall Zoo was awarded the Blue Cross Best Mammal award for their primates and the Best Bird Welfare award for their Wetland Aviary. Being both zoo-licensed and open to the public ensures everything we do is built and run to industry standards providing the best possible learning environment. You will also have the opportunity to go on trips to see other animal collections in the UK and further afield, for the last three years students have been on a once in a lifetime expedition to Africa.
