Expectations: ● This course will require outside student preparation. Students should also be prepared to fully participate in all lab activities including dissections. Students should feel free to ask any questions and contribute to class discussions. Expectations are that students will come prepared to class, including completion of reading assignments. ● This course is a Blended Course. A blended course requires face to face and online instruction. Online coursework may consist of lesson modules, discussion boards, quizzes, tests, and turning in assignments online. The purpose of the blended course is to allow for different learning styles, preparation for college, and to keep instruction going when the teacher cannot be present. ● The course is an UPPER LEVEL SCIENCE and will be treated as such. It is expected that you have a firm grasp on the knowledge learned in Biology I. ● All assigned papers will be typed or computer generated, with points deducted for spelling and grammatical errors. ● If a student is absent, he/she is responsible for getting all make-up and returning it to the teacher within three school days. Missed exams are to be made up within one week before or after school, or at lunch. All forms of cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated. Late work will not be accepted after one week. Required Supplies ● Interactive Notebook (Composition book will be provided by the teacher and is required for class each day) ● Electronic device: personal smart phone, tablet with internet capability, or a school chrome book ● Textbook: Anatomy & Physiology 17th Edition (Thibodeau, Patton) ● Colored pencils, glue, scissors (will be available in classroom or you may bring your own). If you do not like using Elmer’s glue then you may supply your own glue sticks or tape. ● File Storage (USB flash drive, Google Drive, or Cloud Account) ● Pens/Pencils Optional Supplies ● Digital camera for dissection and study purposes (can use camera from a phone or a digital camera) ● Index cards (anatomy is heavy on vocabulary and these might be a helpful study tool) Grading Policy ● Grades will be calculated as follows: 35% Labs (hands on activities, lab reports, lab practicals) 15% Daily (classwork, homework, quizzes) 50% Major Grades (tests, projects, notebook) Major Grades: Tests and Projects Students will be given adequate notice of upcoming test dates and project due dates. Due date reminders will be given in class and posted online. Extra Credit-Extra credit will NOT be offered in this course. It is the student’s responsibility to perform the task when it is originally given. However, occasional bonus points may be offered at the teacher’s discretion. Online Course Component-The online portion of the course can be accessed at https://classroom.google.com. Each student will receive a code to register for the course. It is the student’s responsibility to keep up with their password and check the course frequently. The teacher will be responsible for teaching students how to navigate and utilize their course to complete lessons, assignments, quizzes, tests, and discussion boards.

Tutorials-Tutoring will be available on an as needed basis from 7:15-7:45 am, during the enrichment period, or after school as needed from 3:30-4:00. Struggling students may be assigned tutorials at the teachers discretion.

Class Policies and Procedures Entering The Classroom Tardies: Each tardy will be logged by the teacher. Students are required to be in their seats and ready for class when the tardy bell rings. Excessive tardiness will result in disciplinary measures. Students will have the following disciplinary consequences imposed for unexcused tardiness as they occur: First tardy = Warning; Second tardy = Warning; Third tardy = Lunch restriction; Fourth tardy = 30 minute after school detention and parent conference; Fifth tardy = One hour after school detention; Sixth tardy= In-School Suspension (ISS); Seventh tardy=2 days ISS. All subsequent tardiness will be three days ISS (see student handbook pg. 55). Daily Start of Class Routine 1. Pick up handouts and supplies needed for the day from the designated area in the classroom 2. Have your ISN (interactive science notebook) out on your desk along with any homework due 3. Complete the daily bell work Leaving During Class: Everyday students have time between classes in which to drink water, use lockers, and use the restroom. It is inappropriate for students to disrupt the learning of other by requesting permission to leave during class for any reason unless there is an extreme emergency. For emergencies, students will receive two restroom passes per 6 weeks. Students that do not use their passes may redeem them for 5 bonus points each added to their lowest exam/project grade. Students that must leave for an emergency without a pass will serve a 30 minute detention assigned by the teacher. Class Dismissal: The teacher dismisses the class and NOT the bell. In order to be dismissed on time the students must:  Have the classroom clean including lab tables to the satisfaction of the teacher  Not pack up early Lab Safety Anatomy & Physiology is a lab based course and it is of utmost importance that students become familiar with and follow all lab and safety rules, lab procedures, and oral directions. A safety contract will be completed and turned in by each student before allowed to participate in any labs. Failure to turn in a lab safety contract will prevent the student from completing the lab course work which will impact their grade. Intentional violations of the safety rules will not be tolerated.
