In 1986, as full service gas stations began disappearing, Randy Nicholson noticed the difficulty mothers with young children and the disabled had paying for gas at his Texas station. His dream to make their lives better became pay-at-the-pump technology by the AutoGas division of Altametrics. It wasn’t much later that USA Today named it as one of the Top 25 Life-Changing Inventions in the past 25 years.
In 2011, a restaurant chain with over 500 locations teetered on the edge of bankruptcy. Still, the company leaders refused to give up on their dream and in a final effort to save the jobs of more than 100,000 employees, they implemented e*Restaurant. Now, a few short years since, the company is solvent and profits have improved by millions of dollars.
Today, dreamers at Altametrics have started an ambitious human-interest project to build highly portable shelters that can be quickly deployed globally for large populations displaced by war, famine, or natural disaster. Solely funded by Altametrics, the shelter design will be donated at no cost to international relief organizations.
