Alstom in The Netherlands Over 20 years of contribution to The Netherlands History 1828: Alsthom was founded in a small office at The Hague 1882: Alstom Transport operations in The Netherlands finds its origins in 1882 as Smit Slikkerveer. Later HOLEC and TRAXIS. 1989: A merger of GEC-ALSTOM became one of the market leaders for Transmission & Distribution 1996: Signalling became part of the Alstom Transport operations in the nineties 1996: A merger with AEG created a strong ALSTOM T&D Group 1999: Alstom Power was established in 1999 in The Netherlands. 2000: HOLEC and TRAXIS join ALSTOM. Since 1st of January 2006 fully focussed on Train Life Services. 2010: Alstom Grid was established in The Netherlands as a result of the acquisition of AREVA T&D (previous ALSTOM T&D)

Awards and Certification 

On December 21, 2010 Alstom Transport The Netherlands received the CO2 Performance Ladder Certificate 4 from their customer ProRail. This certificate proves that Alstom Transport The Netherlands operates on a environmental conscious base and targets to reduce their CO2 emissions in their Dutch facilities.



In Sept 2012 Alstom Power was awarded the Power Magazine Award for the repowering project of the RWE/Essent Claus C power plant in Maasbracht The Netherlands. The plant doubled its output (while cutting CO2 emissions) by converting it to a combined cycle plant.



Alstom Power was awarded with the EHS contractor Award at the Claus C power plant in October 2010.



ALSTOM Grid certified according ISO9001 & VCA petrochemie



On September 14, 2011, Alstom Power was awarded the Safety Award by E.ON for their work at the power plant on the Maasvlakte.



On May 2014, Alstom Transport The Netherlands achieved the CO2 Performance Ladder Certificate 5 (the highest level) from the auditor Llyod’s Register Quality Assurance.

Alstom Transport manages entire transport systems, taking in rolling stock, signalling and infrastructure, and offers “turnkey” solutions. The company is no. 1 in the high and very high speed train sector. Alstom Transport recorded sales of 5.9 billion euros in the fiscal year 2013-14, despite a challenging economic environment, whilst its operating margin increased with 11% to 5.6%. Alstom Transport is present in over 60 countries and employs some 28,300 people. In The Netherlands Alstom has offices in Ridderkerk (Services), Utrecht (Signalling) and Rijswijk (Head Office).
