Before you buy your next printer... With so many types of printers to choose from, choosing a printer that’s right for you can be a challenge. There are four basic types of digital sign printers: Aqueous, Solvent, Eco-Solvent, and UV Curable. Also consider the printer’s size specs (how large an area can it print?) and speed. Finally, what RIP (software to print) will you be using -- and what impact will your new printer have upon your workflow? Other key printer purchase factors include: Market Focus Focus on which market segments your shop will serve -- vehicle graphics, POP, exhibit/tradeshow graphics, backlit signs, banners, window graphics, floor graphics, etc. The choices are endless. Also, it's important to consider digital-printing media types. Cast and calendared vinyl, banner and flexible-signface material, foamboard, expanded PVC, paper and floor-marking film are available. Because you can't satisfy everyone, the key is to focus. Customer Requirements Depending on the market, customer expectations may vary. Some clients may demand a sharper print than others. Further, a print resolution that's adequate for a vehicle graphic may be unacceptable for a POP display. Thus, you need to consider your customer's resolution requirements, which involves determining viewing distance. For example, because fleet graphics and outdoor signage will be viewed from distances greater than 50 ft., a 180-dpi resolution may be acceptable. On the other hand, tradeshow posters, which are viewed more closely, require printing resolutions of 760 dpi or higher.

Blazing Print Speed The SJ-1000EX can print up to 484 sqft/hr at 360 dpi. Roland developed this ultra fast print speed for the production of huge signs and banners. One inch wide, the print heads employ 360 nozzles each. Large 30-sqft banners take only 10 minutes.

Advanced Eco-SOL™ INK Eco-SOL INK yields outdoor durable graphics on both coated and uncoated materials without any need for special ventilation or environmental equipment. It is both safe to use and virtually odor free.

CCMMYKx2 Ink Configuration The four-color SJ-1000EX comes loaded with dual sets of CCMMYK to achieve rich, vibrant colors even at high print speeds. Doubling Cyan and Magenta yields brilliant colors in both single and double pass print modes. This yields saturated colors and clarity for large banners and signs even at low 360x360 dpi print modes.

The NovaJet 1000i sets a new standard with print speeds of 150 square feet per hour (14.0 sq. meters/hr) in Productivity mode and 220 square feet per hour (20.4 sq. meters/hr) in High Speed mode. A new print head with 640 nozzles provides high-speed printing on a wide variety of media. The Rapid Evaporation Drying System ensures that your prints are instantly ready for take-up, even at full machine speed.

Breakthrough ink system technology and advanced print head design ensure the NovaJet 1000i leads the way in reliability and ease of use. The effective life of our new thermal print head delivers an average of 2.1 liters of ink throughput. To offer you true unattended printing, an Intermediate Ink Reservoir maintains a constant supply of ink to the print head, and a warning system indicates when ink is getting low. The staggered Carriage Assembly provides better image quality and easy cartridge replacement, while an Active Service Station automatically fills, primes and cleans your ink cartridges. The total result is optimal performance, less maintenance and greater printer uptime.
