We are losing a friend called book…. THE growth of the electronic media, especially the Internet, has led to the loss of book reading habits. The web may not entirely be the culprit and can be partially acquitted, as it is up to individual discretion. We used to call books a true friend; today we have lost this friendship. This has affected writers and the printing industry. Books printed today are small in number which reflects the interest of readers in particular. Since printing houses have to cover the cost of the book, it makes it almost impossible for middle class people to buy books on a regular basis. There are pirated copies available but the printing and outlook of the book is so bad that you cannot keep it for long. An expiry date of one year is suggested to be mentioned on the pirated book. We need to revive the culture of reading where people would not sleep unless they have read something. The scarcity of local book sellers and the high cost

of foreign publishing houses operating in Pakistan should be taken up by policymakers. Written by Mr. Baqar Abbas Rizvi., BM-Gulshan e Jamal branch. This article appeared in Dawn Newspaper in March 2011

KYC and AML/CFT Measures – Helping businesses grow It is a general perception in the Banking Industry that any regulation which directly or indirectly impacts the deposit size of a Bank, is considered a difficult task to comply with. But, once it is realized that the Regulatory requirements are for the benefit of the Bank, Customers and the Industry at large; then it is accepted wholeheartedly and the spirit behind the efforts understood. After implementation of revised AML/CFT Regulations of SBP in 2012, Customer Services became a big challenge for the Banks and implementation of the regulations became a gigantic task. However, the monitoring of a customer’s transaction should be considered as a blessing in disguise for the Banks to review their customer offerings and to make appropriate modifications for competitive differentiation. The other benefits include an improved reputation as a fair and law abiding place to do business and improved competitive conditions arising from the reduction of illegal and fraudulent behaviour.

Answer calls promptly (by the second or third ring). Introduce yourself completely and professionally. Be a good listener and speak clearly when required. Never interrupt abruptly. Smile during your conversation, Even though the caller/receiver can’t see it, they’ll hear the smile in the tone of voice. Never talk to a third person during the call; if necessary, take permission of the caller/receiver to hold, but not for too long. Avoid unnecessary jargon, acronyms and casual language in your conversation. Never eat / chew, drink while you are talking as this leaves a bad impression.
