Introduction In line with the vision of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development that recognizes the importance of the agricultural sector in achieving food security and based on its vision to have an effective agricultural sector that contributes to social, environmental and economic development in the Kingdom of Bahrain and in support of the theme of Bahrain International Garden Show 2015 (Agricultural Training for a Sustainable Harvest) the National Initiative for Agricultural Development has issued this guide, which includes training and educational entities from universities and training centres in the Kingdom of Bahrain that offer agricultural programs, courses and workshops in different disciplines to contribute to the implementation of the future agricultural visions and policies. This guide targets farmers as well as people who are interested in this sector - investors, amateurs and entrepreneurs - to offer them information regarding the main training and educational institutes in the agricultural field. It also aims to assist them in their research about all the available programmes in the Kingdom and communicate with these institutes to enhance the agricultural outputs, increase the levels of knowledge and develop agricultural skills. We hope that this guide will assist in increasing agricultural knowledge, capabilities, and output, which will contribute to developing the agricultural sector in Kingdom of Bahrain.

1. Arabian Gulf University 1. Diploma and Master Programmes Course Outline: To obtain the certificate, students are required to complete the following subjects: Hydroponics, Agriculture and Environment, Treated Wastewater in Agriculture, calculating water requirements, Pest Control, Horticultural Crop Production, Fodders Production, Landscaping, Managing Groundwater for Agriculture, Monitoring the Deterioration of Agricultural Soil, The Impact of Agricultural Practices on the Environment and The Use of modern techniques such as hydroponics, tissue culture and agricultural biotechnology. Course Objectives: To supply the (GCC) countries with graduates who are qualified in the field of modern agriculture techniques and its associated environment impacts from population activities in the soil, water and localization of modern food production technologies, to contribute to the achievement of food security, and achieving the vision of building a sustainable agricultural sector that overcomes the obstacles and restrictions of the natural resources. Target Audience: Bachelor degree graduates from the GCC or residing foreigners in the GCC countries. Admission Requirements: Through the Ministries of Higher Education in the GCC countries; foreigners should show proof of their financial ability to study the programmes. The Course of Organic Fertilizers Production Course Outline: Students are expected to understand the basic processes of converting agricultural waste and some household waste to organic fertilizers. Target Audience: Housewives, amateurs, small business entrepreneurs, farmers and anyone interested in organic agriculture. Course Duration: Two days Fees: BD 180 per participant

Introduction in Hydroponics Course Outline: This course provides participants with information about hydroponics and how to manage and design small to medium-sized home systems to produce green vegetables. Hydroponic Agriculture (Advanced Course in Producing Vegetables and Cut Flowers in Greenhouses) Course Outline: This course provides participants with information about entering the field of agricultural production business through agriculture in greenhouses and hydroponics. Target Audience: Farmers, medium business entrepreneurs, agronomists, young people interested in practicing agriculture as a profession, and agricultural specialists. Installation and Maintenance of Modern Irrigation Networks Course Outline: This course provides the participants with required information and capabilities of installing and maintaining modern irrigation networks including sprinkler irrigation and drip irrigation. Course Objectives: This course provides the participants with theories and practices of designing and maintaining modern irrigation networks and the operational requirements to assure quality output. Palm Trees, Good Care Practices Course Outline: This course provides the participants with required information on how to take care of palm trees and identifying the most serious palm pests and methods of control. Target Audience: Farmers, farms owners, house gardeners and employees of related ministries and institutes. Course Duration: Two Days Fees: BD 180 per participant

7. Reclamation of Saline lands Course Outline: This course provides the participants with information about managing and reclamation of saline and sodic soils and selection of appropriate crops. Course Objectives: Participants will learn the theories and practices of determining and measuring the levels of land salinity, treatment methods and how to benefit from them by using crops appropriate to salinity levels. Designing, Collecting and Analyzing Agricultural Data Statistically Course Outline: This course provides participants with skills related to designing agricultural experiments, using computers and the latest statistical software to analyze, present and discuss statistical results. 2. University of Bahrain 1. Extracting the Components of Bio washing from agricultural soil and Using them in Improving quality specifications of Agricultural Soil Course Course Outline: The compounds of surface tension depressant are sweeping global markets and are considered among the most widely used compounds in the world as they are a key component in the composition of household, industrial and agricultural cleaning as well as ones. Surface tension depressant play a vital role in the process of washing agricultural soil contaminated with pesticides and heavy metals and they protect crops and resist the impact of various pests on agricultural crops, thus raising the production capacity and quality of the agricultural product. General objectives: Training farmers and other interested parties on the skill of isolation and propagation of beneficial bacteria from agricultural soils, the preparation of bacterial cultures for the purpose of using them in isolating of beneficial bacteria from the soil as well as training on stimulating bacteria to produce the commercially vital surface tension depressants and to familiarize participants with the mechanism of measuring the effectiveness of compounds of surface tension depressants. Culture of Plant Tissues Course Outline: The course aims to localize the technology of plant tissue culture through educating and training of participants practically on the basics of plant tissue culture technology. General objectives: Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to: - To identify the key requirements for the establishment of a laboratory for plant tissue culture. - To use the techniques of plant tissue culture for the propagation of economically viable plants. - Transfer and acclimatizing plants produced by plant tissue culture to the natural environment. Target group: Agricultural companies, the owners of nurseries and farms, farmers, technicians of laboratories of plant tissue culture and other interested parties. Planting of Botanical Tissues in the Classroom Course Outline: The course aims to provide practical practice on the technology of plant tissue culture in order to facilitate its inclusion in the classrooms in the schools of the Kingdom of Bahrain. General objectives: Upon completion of the workshop, the participant will be able to: - Understand the basic principles of plant tissue culture techniques. - Practise plant tissue culture technique practically in the laboratory and in the greenhouse. - Design and prepare educational material and practically appropriate training for use in school classrooms. Tissue culture Course Outline: Providing participants with the necessary information about plant tissue laboratory, food medium, preparation of solutions, control of pollution in the laboratory of tissues through isolating and sterilization, identifying the plant tissues and cultivating them and the stages of propagation by tissue. 6. UNIDO Agricultural incubators (Programme of enhancement of entrepreneurs in the field of agriculture). Course Outline: This programme was launched by The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) under the name «Agricultural Entrepreneurs» in cooperation with the Arab Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship & Investment and the Islamic Bank. The programme is divided into four stages as follows: 1. Preparing and enabling agricultural entrepreneurs through training and talent development and determining how to establish a small project and how to achieve sustainable development in such project. 2. Providing advice and networking connection by experts specialized in the field of agriculture to help the investor use modern technologies. 3. Financial Connectivity: After the completion of the project work plan, the entrepreneurs are introduced with the financial requirements of the project, evaluation of its potentials and clarifying the requirements of obtaining loans from Bahrain Development Bank or creativity Bank. 4. Incubation: After obtaining financing, the agricultural entrepreneur becomes ready to begin the actual work and implementation through the work team and determination of the essential projects that need incubation outside or inside houses. 9. Bahrain Philanthropic and Social Work Socialty "Khair” Cultivate your Habitat Project Vision: To make the roofs of our houses green, productive and exhilarating. Mission: Urging planting of the roof by all possible means supporting efforts to improve the environment and the level of the concerned families through the employment of modern agricultural techniques. The Idea of the Project: Promoting the idea of planting roofs of house and buildings in the villages and towns of Bahrain through encouraging community collaboration between members of the society to work either individually or in harmonious groups and "Khair" is the best way to strengthen such relationships, exchange experiences and facilitate access to relevant knowledge through continuous guidance and training. The start of the project: The work has included a lot of events (workshops, seminars, meetings and field visits) and it resulted in the completion of a model of the project on the roof of “Khair” Society in order to provide an opportunity for everyone who wants to apply the experience on the roof of his own house. Project Objectives: 1. Strengthen the cooperation among members of the community through working in the field of planting the roofs of homes and buildings, either as individuals or harmonious groups that exchange experiences in addition to availing agricultural knowledge through the continues guidance and training. 2. The Agricultural Center for Vocational Training

It is one of the Bahrain Association for Intellectual Disability & Autism centers. The Association's management assumed the project in July 2008, based on an agreement with the National Foundation for the Disabled that was officially opened on March 30, 2009.

The Centre is established on a plot area of one hectare located at Horat

A’li of the Ministry of Works, Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning. The center currently has a number of young people with simple intellectual disabilities for rehabilitation and training on agriculture and related business. General Terms: • The applicant must have a Bahraini nationality. • Must be at least 18 years of age. • Must successfully pass the interview. Al Rahma’s Agricultural Project

Agricultural projects have proven to be effective in the training and vocational rehabilitation of people with special needs. This has led to Al Rahma Centre embarking on its own agricultural project in November of 2014 at its premises in East Riffa The projects aims 1. Provide training programs in the field of agriculture for the Centres students. 2. Provide work opportunities for the Centres students. 3. Provide a safe environment for physical and leisure activities. 4. Provide stable sources of income to cover the operating expenses of the project (Self-Financing). 5.
