Immerse yourself in Portugal’s living traditions! Enjoy unique musical experiences, featuring personal interactions with musicians and other artists. You will have opportunities to meet and converse with the artists following most performances. (Please note: all entertainments and artistic events are tentative until definite arrangements are made with the artists. Your tour will include the events below or ones similar to them.) • The Medieval Age - Private music performance & lunch in the Alcobaça monastery or wine museum and private guided tour. • Cante Alentejano: - Performance featuring viola campaniça & cante alentejano, including “Grandola Vila Morena” which ushered in the carnation revolution and the overthrow of Salazar’s dictatorship. • The Fado: -Dinner & “A Journey through Fado” with Daniel Gouveia. - Coimbra-style fado musicians at the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Vitoria - Private tour of the Fado museum, by a leading ethnomusicologist, explaining fado’s position as intangible heritage of humanity (by UNESCO). • Portuguese Guitar - Private visit to a skilled luthier’s workshop (Oscar Cardoso or Mestre Gracio). • Cruise on the River Douro through 600,000 acres of hillside vineyards. - Intimate meal at Quinta da Pacheca, formerly the Serpa Pimentel family estate.

Patrícia Barreto, Carlos Machado, and Christine Nielsen, of the CMC Board or Directors, will offer insights on the historical evolution of Portuguese music and culture.

1st Day Arrival  Private  transfer  to  Hotel  Dom  Pedro  with  English  speaking assistance Welcome and Tour Overview by CMC Board members Guided tour of the Belem area Learn  about  Portuguese  Age  of  Discovery  and  the  mighty  Portuguese Empire, once the largest and most influential empire in  the whole of Europe. Brief stops will be made during your tour for  photo opportunities. Marvel  at  the  sight  of  Belém Tower  a  masterpiece  of  16th  century  Manueline Architecture,  declared  a  World  Heritage  by  UNESCO. In Belém stands also the  amazing  Jerónimos Monastery  (entrance fee incl.), also a Unesco World Heritage Site and one of  the  most  impressive  examples  of  the  Portuguese  Manueline architectural style.  Finish  your  Empire  Tour  at  the  most  famous  pastry  shop  in  Portugal, the Fábrica dos Pastéis de Belém (incl. 2 cakes + 1 drink).  It produces a delicious egg custard dessert ‐ elected in 2010 as one  of 7 Top Plates, Wonders of Portuguese Gastronomy. 2nd Day From dictatorship to democracy Breakfast at Hotel. English Speaking Guide and Bus for a Full day Tour: Lisbon / Mafra / Ericeira / Bucelas Visit  the  Home  and  Museum  of  Amalia Rodrigues (entrance  fee  incl.)

Æ Lunch at Restaurant Sul in Ericeira (not included) Performance by Cavaquinho (Ukulele’s  ancestor) (included) Visit  to  Mafra Palace  ‐ Built  in  the  18th  century  by  order  of  King  João V ‐ and 6 organ concert. On to Bucelas, where we will have a wine tasting in one of their  cellars. 3rd Day From the Moorish Era to the Medieval Age Breakfast at Hotel. English Speaking Guide and Bus for a Full day Tour: Estoril / Cascais / Cabo da Roca / Sintra Visit to Estoril’s Music Museum (entrance fee included) Æ Lunch at Restaurant Furnas do Guincho (not included) Visit of Sintra ‐ A UNESCO World Heritage  Site  – recognized  in  1995 for its Cultural Landscape. This magical place is dominated by  steep  mountains  and  lush  forests  which  create  a  microclimate, always several degrees cooler than Lisbon, with a  characteristically romantic mist, just like a fairytale.  Entrance  fees  at  Sintra’s  National  Palace  and  Castle  of  the  Moors included. 4th Day Spirituality in the Middle Ages Breakfast at Hotel. Departure to Alcobaça by Bus. Meeting in Alcobaça with a local English speaking Guide. Entrance fee incl. at Alcobaça Monastery – which was founded  by  the  first  Portuguese  King,  Afonso Henriques,  in  1153,  and  maintained  a  close  association  with  the  Kings  of  Portugal  throughout its history. ÆLunch  (03  course  medieval  meal  with  drinks)  at  Alcobaça Wine Museum with music performance (included)  Follow  to  Tomar to  visit  the  Convent  of  Christ  (entrance  fee  incl.) – a UNESCO world Heritage sit & stronghold of the Knights  Templar in the 12th century.

Sightseeing of Oporto, also well known as the city of the  baroque, is the  cradle of the globally renowned  Portuguese export product – Port wine. Capital and  gateway to the north, Porto is an ancient city that gave its  name to Portugal and came to recognize the four corners  of the world: the Port Wine.  The city enjoys a splendid location at the mouth of the  Douro and since recognized by UNESCO as a world  heritage site, with   recognized for its architectural historic  downtown Accommodation at Crowne Plaza Porto.
