ADMINISTRATOR’S GREETING

B

onjour et bienvenue à l’école Sir William Osler! Welcome to École Sir William Osler! This year, we are welcoming children from nursery to grade two at our French milieu school. As the new principal at École Sir William Osler, I am looking forward to meeting you and your children and getting to know more about our school community! Please take a few moments to read over our monthly school newsletter, and note any important dates and activities. I would like to thank our parent volunteers, Salena Buchan, Armelle Alheritière and Tara King who have been working very hard to organize our school Lunch Program! Students in grades one and two will be eating lunch from 11:30 – 11:50 a.m., followed by an outdoor recess, weather permitting. Please see page 4 of our newsletter for more information about our lunch program. Throughout the month of September, the children will be settling in to their new classes, and getting to know their new teachers, our educational assistants and their new classmates. We would like to invite you to our “Meet the Staff Evening” on Tuesday, September 13, from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. This will be an opportunity to visit your child’s classroom, and find out more about the plans for your child’s learning year. I will be strolling the hallways and I am looking forward to meeting many families.

we would encourage you to contact your child’s teacher, as soon as possible. Please do not feel as though you need to wait until conference time. We value your input and wish to work with you to support your child! On Friday, Sepetember 23, 2016 we will participate in the annual Terry Fox event. M. Gurniak, our physical education teacher, is planning a fun day, where students will be invited to walk to support the Terry Fox Foundation. Our students will be learning about our Canadian hero, Terry Fox, in an age-appropriate manner, and are invited to bring in a donation to the Terry Fox Foundation on that day, if you so choose. I would like to wish all a successful beginning to the school year! On behalf of all of the staff, we are excited to work with your children, and look forward to celebrating with you the many successes your children will have this school year! We will see you on September 13! Mme Karen Loveridge Principal

Lunch Program Hello Parents and Caregivers, As the volunteer lunch committee program is new to École Sir William Osler, we wanted to briefly introduce the team: Salena Buchan Chair – Lunch Committee Armelle Alheritiere Vice Chair – Lunch Committee Tara King-Skrabyk Assistance – Lunch Committee The staff hired will be in charge daily of the children and are the same education assistants who looked after the lunchroom last year, so they are familiar with the process. Each of the three educational assistants will be in charge of an individual classroom, as well as the remainder of the lunch hour on the school field. We also just wanted to note that the fees are in line with other school lunch programs and we are hopeful that we will not have to do any additional fundraising. However, to help keep the fees at their current status, we would like to collect five (or more) parent names who are willing to be contacted to be a replacement supervisor for a lunch hour should the need arise. The Winnipeg School Division Volunteer Forms, Child Abuse Registry check and Criminal Record check will need to be completed before starting. Please forward your name, phone number and email to: [email protected] Lastly, there will again be a milk program this year, details and forms will be sent home in the next few weeks.

Meet the Staff Evening! Tuesday, September 13, 2016 Dear École Sir William Osler Families, The new school year is always an exciting and busy time! Children meet new staff and friends, while teachers are getting to know their new students and their families. We would like to invite you to our Meet the Staff Evening from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. on the evening of Tuesday, September 13 to meet your children’s teachers. This will give you a chance to spend some time with your child’s teacher and have your child show you around the class, in a relaxed family atmosphere. Please note that this is not a time to discuss your individual child’s progress or any concerns, but rather a time to informally visit with your child’s teachers and to see where your child spends his/her day. Teachers will outline classroom expectations and routines for the school year. Please remember to stop by to visit our Music Teacher, Mme Ossachuk and Physical Education Teacher, M. Gurniak. I am looking forward to greeting you that evening, as well. We are all looking forward to meeting all of our families this evening! Sincerely, Mme K. Loveridge Principal

Looking forward to another great school year at École Sir William Osler! Salena, Armelle & Tara
