Productive Service to University University Diversity Task Force Report: Anticipated distribution date: February 28, 2011 Currently, I am a co-facilitator for the Diversity Taskforce. Dean Sakofs appointed a diversity task force to conduct self-study and review of the current status of diversity efforts in the School of Education and Professional Studies. Task Force Objectives include: a) complete a self-study and review of the current status of diversity and equity efforts in the School of Education and Professional Studies; b) lead to judgments about our unit strengths and challenges; and c) use results of the data analyses to guide the goals and initiatives in the School of Education and Professional Studies Diversity Strategic Plans. I am writing the Diversity Taskforce report, which consists of the following four areas: a) Institutional leadership and commitment-decisions policies, and practices; b) Representational Diversity—faculty, students, staff, alumni-head count; c) Curriculum, pedagogy, practices, behaviors and professional disposition; and d) culture and climate. Grant from Office of Equity and Diversity for Faculty Senate Diversity Committee to Action Group Discussions among student, faculty, and administration. Added February 18, 2011 Decide how to integrate. Research Aspiring School Leaders & Social Justice: What Are Sixth Year Students Learning at CCSU? Timeframe: from February 2, 2011 to August 2011. Summary: The purpose of the research is to explore and examine what CCSU Sixth Year students in the Department of Educational Leadership are learning about cross-cultural competence, multiculturalism, professional skills, and commitment to multiculturalism, social justice, and diversity work in the Sixth Year program. Students enrolled in EDL 590 Leaders as Learners: Educational Leadership and Self-Assessment, the first course in the Sixth Year Program, will be invited to complete the “Multicultural Disposition Index” survey (see below) for the study. (Additional information included, i.e., exemption form, survey, & consent letter.) CSU Research Grant Submission Evaluating the Impact of Instructional Rounds on Student Learning and School Improvement in 12 Connecticut School Districts Timeframe: March 2011-July 2011. Summary: Instructional Rounds (IR) process is a recent innovation (2008-09) that focuses on improving student learning and instructional practices in schools and across a district via the network’s classroom visitations. The IR network consists of administrators and teachers who observe in classrooms, analyze the classroom observations, and provide feedback to the host school. The goal of this study is to examine how IR improves student learning and achievement, instructional practices, district and school leaders’ collective and collaborative leadership practice, and the instructional rounds team in 12 Connecticut school districts. Teachers and administrators in the 12 school districts will complete a survey. Approximately 40-50% of them will be interviewed. (Proposal included.) Faculty Development Grant Proposal 11
