ACTIVITY 2 – MY HEROE AND ME Background El gaucho is the forgotten hero of the pampas. He fought for the freedom of the Argentinean people against the Europeans. He is a legend whose story is written in the pages of Argentina. He was independent and loyal. His personality was cheerful and he enjoyed signing and playing his guitar. He was the prototype of the hero faithful to his beliefs and in search of his future. We are surrounding by people that we admire. They are singers, baseball and basketball stars. Have you ever stopped and wonder why are you fascinated with them. Have they accomplished all the things you are dreaming with? Are you like them? In this activity you will be wondering why you admire people. Why they become your heroes? Materials 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Picture of your hero (sports star, friend, relative, parent, someone famous) Coloring materials such as crayons, markers, coloring pencils Scissors Glue stick Handout “Mi Héroe y yo”
Instructions 1.
Ask students to bring to class a picture of their hero. Their hero can be someone they know such as a parent, sibling or relative. It can also be someone famous such as a singer, movie star or basketball player
2.
Distribute in class the handout called “Mi Héroe y yo” Explain to the class what they need to do.

MI HEROE ES: Describe the physical appearance of your hero. The description should include physical characteristics such as eye color, hair color. You can also include hair style (straight or curly). You can also include height (alto o bajo)

MI HEROE TRABAJA COMO: Describe the career of their hero. Please write a list on the board of different careers such as: artista, cantante, doctor, médico, bombero, actor, deportista. If they are famous sport figures you need to include their team. If they are movie actors name the movie or show that made them famous. ME GUSTA MI HEROE: Students explain why they choose this person to be their hero. Good opportunity to review adjectives. For example: inteligente, bonita, simpático, divertido, entretenido, rico, popular, gracioso. This section can be used as a brainstorming sessions for adjectives. The class should come up with lists of qualities that make someone a hero. You can write all the ideas in the board. Students can select from the list.

3. Once the handout is complete ask for volunteers to share their photograph and answers with the class.
Small Group Activities 1.
Divide the class in small groups preferably four students per group.

Students share photographs within their groups.
3.
Each group creates a list of the common personality traits in the group. They also select one hero for the group. Finally they gather a list of activities to do if one is famous for a day.
4.
Each group shares the hero they selected and their personality traits using full sentences in Spanish. Each group also shares the list of activities. All ideas are written on the board.
5.
The class selects a class hero. It also discusses the favorite activity to do one day if one is famous.
Future Activities 1. 2.
Each month the teacher can select a new class hero. At the end of the year the teacher can ask each person to review their worksheet and find out how many people would like to change their hero.

ACTIVIDAD 2 – MI HEROE Y YO Historia El gaucho es el héroe olvidado de las pampas. Luchó por la libertad del pueblo argentino contra el dominio Europeo. Es un personaje legendario que escribió su historia en las páginas de Argentina. Era muy independiente y fiel. También se destacó por ser alegre cantando y tocando su guitarra. Además su lealtad no tenía igual. Era el prototipo del héroe que vive dedicado a sus creencias y buscando su porvenir. Personajes como el gaucho son parte de nuestra vida diaria. Existen cantantes o estrellas de deportes a las que admiramos. A veces te has detenido a pensar por qué admiras tanto a esa persona. En que cosas se parecen ellos a ti. Instrucciones 3.
Pídale a los alumnos que traigan a clase la fotografía de una persona que ellos admiran. Esta persona puede ser alguien reconocido como un cantante o un deportista famoso. También puede ser alguien de su familia. Alguien que ellos consideran su héroe.

Distribuya en clase la hoja llamada: “Mi Héroe y yo” Explíquele a la clase lo que tiene que hacer.

MI HEROE ES: ¿Cómo es tu héroe físicamente? Los estudiantes deben hacer una breve descripción escrita de la fotografía. La descripción debe incluir sus características físicas como color de ojos y color de pelo También se puede incluir el tipo de cabello como lacio o crespo o si el pelo es largo o corto. Otras características como estatura se pueden incluir.

TRABAJA COMO: ¿Qué profesión tiene tu héroe? Los estudiantes deben de decir que profesión tiene su héroe favorito. En el pizarrón el maestro debe colocar una lista de profesiones como artista, cantante, doctor, médico, bombero, actor, deportista. Una vez terminada la hoja escoja voluntarios que compartan con la clase su fotografía y las descripciones por cada categoría.
Actividades en Grupos Pequeños 6. Divida a los alumnos en grupos de cuatro. 7. Pedirle a cada grupo que compartan sus fotografías unos con otros. Hacer que cada estudiante comparta como son y que harían si fueran famosos por un día 8. Cada grupo crea una lista común de sus características y de las actividades que mas les gustaría hacer y escogen un solo héroe para el grupo. 9. Cada grupo expresa en español el héroe que escogieron y que harían si pudieran ser famosos por un día. También comparten con la clase como se describe el grupo. Las ideas son colocadas en el pizarrón. 10. La clase elige el héroe que más les gusta y que representa a la clase. También se puede discutir cual sería la actividad que mas le gustaría hacer a la clase si todos fueran famosos por un día.
Actividades Futuras 1. Cada mes el maestro puede mostrar al héroe de la clase y someter a votación si la clase quiere o no mantener a ese mismo héroe. También se puede hacer una lista de nuevas opciones como héroe de la clase. 2. Al final de año se puede repetir la actividad y se puede ver quien cambió de idea y escogen otro héroe y comparar como sus vidas y prioridades han cambiado en un año.
