ANNUAL QUALITY ASSURANCE REPORT (AQAR) Reporting year 2011-12 PRIYADARSHINI MAHILA MAHAVIDYALAYA, WARDHA PART-A The meeting of the Quality Advisory Committee(QAC) and the meeting of the IQAC were held to chalk out the plan of action for the year 2011-12. The following points were stressed for quality improvement in our college. 1. our college More infrastructure facilities, 2. Purchasing more reference books, 3. More NSS extension activities on social problems, 4. Continuation of regular activities on women empowerment, 5. Continuation of lecture series, 6. Stress on research activities among teachers, 7. Arranging study tours(UGC sponsored), 8. Organizing various environmental programmes, 9. Completion of Women’s hostel, 10. Implementation if 11th plan grants on library, 11. Technology up gradation in the office. 12. Workshop on Home economics sullabus. Outcomes: Some definite steps have been taken to fulfill the plan of action for the year 2011-12, the details of which are enumerated in part-B to make it more clear.

ENTERPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT Dr. D.K.Sontakke, NSS programme officer and 20 NSS volunteers participated in a workshop organized by Yeshwant Mahavidyalaya, Wardha. The workshop was on entrepreneurship development. The purpose of the workshop was to make the students start their own business rather than running after job, systematic planning, decision making, goal setting and entrepreneurial skills were taught to the students. LIFE SKILL DEVELOPMENT On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti the students were made aware of the importance of “Shramdan”. The students were also taught life skill development like presentation, interaction, listening and speaking skills and SWOT analysis.

ADVENTURAL SPORTS AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP A workshop on adventure sports was held in the college in collaboration with National Adventure Foundation (NAF). Former Major general Bakshi, Brigedier Ravikumar from Delhi and Dr. Waikar from Nagpur , Avinash Deuskar and Vimla Negi Deuskar, who are mountaineers of International repute addressed the students. A film on mountaineering was shown to the students inspiring them to take up adventures in their life. On this programme Bharati Gomase, Director, Nagpur Chapter of NAF, Dr. Rafid Sheikh, District Co-coordinator NSS, 40 NSS cadets and 80 NSS Volunteers were present.

Extension and Community services NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS) WORLD POPULATION DAY On the occasion of World Population Day (11th July 2011) a street play on the theme of “Female Foeticide and Its Effect on Population Imbalance” was organized in our college on the orgies Govt. Hospital, Wardha. The purpose of organizing this programme was to create awareness on the problem of population explosion in the world. A formal inauguration of the yearly NSS programmes was held on 5th Aug 2011 to mark the beginning of the NSS activities. Dr. Keshao Walke of Aniket College of Social Work addressed the students on the importance of NSS in nation building and the significance of NSS activities in social life. He advised the students to follow the objective of NSS, “NOT ME, BUT YOU”. Dr. D.K. Sontakke and six NSS volunteers of the college participated in the International Seminar at Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriy Hindi Vishvavidyalaya, Wardha. The theme of the seminar was “The Impact of Atomic Energy on Environment”. Eminent environmentalists addressed the conference on the hazards of radiation and their evil consequences on our planet. As a regular activity, a special lecture was held on Independence day in which Prof. Pramod Narayane of Yeshwant Mahavidyalaya, Wardha talked on the significance of freedom in the Indian ethos highlighting the history of Indian freedom struggle. A special tree plantation programme was held in the college premises on 22nd Aug 2011. Honorable V.C. of R.T.M. Nagpur University, Nagpur Dr. Vilas Sapkal planted trees in the college campus and he lauded the efforts of NSS volunteers of the college for plantation and its preservation to protect environment in Wardha district. EYE DONATION PROGRAMME A programme on the importance eye donation was held in the college in which Dr. Kishor Meshram told that “Netradan “ is perhaps the greatest donation that benefits the society. He also focused on how a man can be immortal by donating his

eyes to sightless after his death. He also gave the students some information’s on the procedure of donating the eyes in the eye bank. NSS Day was observed in the college, on the occasion of which Prof. Sharad Jaiswal of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriy Hindi Vishvavidyalaya, Wardha addressed the students on the importance of NSS in student life. He said that individual is closely associated with the society and his personality and his creative power come from the society. The NSS teacher, the students the sense of belongingness to the institution and student movement can be invigorated through NSS. ANNUAL NSS CAMP IN VILLAGE PAONUR Special NSS camp was held in village Paonur. From 19TH Dec 2011 to 25th Dec 2011. During the camp Shramdan , cultural and academic programmes were held. In the forenoons shramdan and survey of the village problems were conducted and in the afternoon discussions on multiple topics such as dimensions of friendship, harmonious relationship between men and women, creation of separate Vidarbha state for the upliftment of the farmers, developing scientific attitude among the students etc were organised. A full day was devoted on the exhibition of different technological tools, explaining the farmers the method using them. A film was shown on the bad effect of smoke on women while they cook food and its remedies. All the women were invited for the film show and they were advised to take remedial steps to protect themselves from the bad effect from smoke. After that the NSS students made a survey of the village kitchens pointing out same of the defects of their kitchens. Apart from these, regular NSS activities go on in the college round the year.

ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVITIES On 16TH June 2011 Tree palantation programme was held at Hutatma Smarak, Sevagram by Paryavaran Mandal in collaboration with Nisarg Seva Samiti . Trees was planted at Hutatma smarak in the presence of noted Gandhian Thinker, Director of National Youth Forum S. N. Subbarao, Paryavaran Mitra Mr. Murlidhar Belkhode and Mr. M.M. Gadkari, President, Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan , Principal, Dr. Rambha Sonaye and the members of the teaching staff of the college. Dr. Subbarao highlighted on the importance of trees by citiing an example of how the bride plants a tree when she comes to her father-in-law’s house after marriage. In memory of late Shri Bapuraoji Deshmukh, the founder of Yeshvant Grameen Shikshan Sanstha trees were planted on the two sides of Savitribai Fule Dnyanmarg that links the college by Principal, Dr. R.H. Sonaye. On 22nd August trees were planted by Dr. Vilas Sapkal, Honourable Vice Chancellor of RTM.Nagpur University, Nagpur. The Principal Dr. Deshmukh, Principal Dr. K.R. Aher, President, B.D. Foundation Shri Sharadbhau Deshmukh and Dr. B.K.Khadse, secretary of B.D. Foundation, Sevagram were also present.

On 23rd Aug , On the occasion of tree conservation programme at ITI CAMPUS organized by Nisarg Seva Samiti , students from different colleges of Wardha district participated. The students and NSS volunteers of our college also participated. Environment Awareness Programme was held in our college in which noted environmentalist Mr. Dilip Kulkarni from Raigar addressed the students on how our trees can save human beings from pollution hazards. The college magazine SAVITRI was published in which articles and writings on paryavaran were given the main focus. A study tour to the deep forest of Gadchiroli was taken up to acquaint the students with our ecology and forest life. Prof. Sudhakar Sonone gave an idea about economic contribution of the forest to the country. As a part of academic activity, environmental projects were prepared by the students of BA II.

Academic and Cultural programme A WORKSHOP ON TECHNOLOGICAL AIDS IN RURAL DEVELOPMENT Dr. D.K. Sontakke organised a seminar under the aegis of Rural Polytechnic College, Pipri in which 32 NSS Programme officers participated. The purpose of the workshop was to train the NSS programme officers on various technological aids for rural development. The programme officers were advised to teach the villagers the benefits of the technological aids in agriculture during the NSS camp.

HOME-ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT The Home Economics department organized a workshop on the changing syllabus of B.A Part -1, B.A.Part-II, B.A. Final, framed by RTM Nagpur University, Nagpur as per the UGC guidelines. Almost all the teachers of colleges affiliated to the university participated in the workshop. Honorable Vice Chancellor , Dr. Vilas Sapkal was invited as the chief guest to inaugurate the workshop. The purpose of the workshop was to acquaint the teachers of the latest additions in the syllabus which emphasize on the self employment. The latest changes in the syllabus were displayed along with the handiwork of embroidery, knitting, stitching, flower making etc. The participants of the workshop were also provided with study materials that will help them in preparing them selves to teach the subject. On this occasion books on Home Economics were displayed in the Library and teachers were provided with a list of books they can refer to for the purpose of teaching. Honorable Vice Chancellor inaugurated the exhibition. MARATHI LITERATURE STUDY CIRCLE

On the occasion of “Ashadhi Ekadashi” the students of the college collected newspaper cuttings of Pandharpur Yatra. This is a famous festival in Maharashtra. 4th Oct. 2011- The wall magazine “Phoenix” was inaugurated by Dr. Ramakant Kolte , noted litterateur of Vidarbha. This issue of Phoenix was on the literary achievements of B.B. Borkar, renowned Marathi poet. A special lecture was arranged on B.B. Borkar, in which Dr. Kolte highlighted on the literary genius of Borkar. 4th Jan 2012- A workshop was organized on the art of comparing in which students of different colleges participated; Mrs Seema Shete-Rothe was the chief speaker ,who gave the participants an idea of the details of compering and conducting a programme. 4th Feb. 2012- About 45 students participated in the Akhil Bhartiy Marathi Sahitya Sammelan at Chandrapur on 4th Feb. 2012. The students got the opportunity of directly meeting eminent Marathi literaturateurs. They also saw the book exhibition of Marathi works. Some students interacted with some of the delegates of the conference which was shown in TV Channels.

SOCIAL SCIENCE STUDY CIRCLE A programme on ‘Janlokpal Bill’ was held under Social Science Study Circle. Social activist Mr. Nitin Zade and Mr. Vaibhav Ghade addressed the students on “India Against Corruption”. In their speech they told that Jan Lokpal Bill can never be strong without the inclusion of P.M., Judges, 4 TH Grade employees in its ambit. The students participated in the discussion after the lecture. On the occasion of “August Kranti Din” (9th Aug.) a film on August Kranti was shown to students of the college. The film highlighted on the local freedom struggle of Ashti in which six people sacrificed their life. The film brought back the memories of the historical event that created patriotic feelings among the students. 22 nd Aug. 2011 - As a Quality enhancement measure the department of History prepared CDs containing study materials on the subject for B.A. students as per UGC guidelines. On 26th September a programme was organized by Social Science Study Circle in which Dr. Harihar Tiwari, Principal, Appaswami Mahavidyalaya, Washim, addressed the students on “Moral Values ”.In his speech he told that if the principles and ideology of Dr. Ambedkar will be applied in social life of the people, then the country will certainly achieve the goal of a welfare state. 6th Dec. 2011- On the occasion of Mahaparinirvan Din (Dr. Ambedkar’s Death Anniversary) which was observed in 6th Dec. 2011, noted Dalit poet and dramatist Mr. Ashok Burbure addressed the students on the life and achievements of architect of Indian constitution Dr. B.R.Ambedkar. In his speech he said that Dr. Ambedkar was not merely a social reformer, but a great political reformer of India who brought the concept of liberty, equality and fraternity through the Constitution.

3rd Jan 2012 (Mahila Mukti Din)- Savitribai Fule Jayanti was celebrated in the college on 3rd Jan . This occasion is of special significance in our college because Savitribai Fule was the First Woman Teacher in India. On this occasion the students of our college, through their speech, remembered the life and works of Savitribai for the education of women. Dr. Anita Deshmukh and Mr. Sudhakar Sonone took the lead in organizing this programme. On the constitution day (26th Nov. 2011), all the students of the college read out the preamble of the Constitution which guarantees a secular system in our country. A Quiz contest was held to test the students about their knowledge of the Indian Constitution.

STUDY TOUR AND INDUSTRIAL VISITS On 8 th Jan 2012, 55 students of Home Economics department visited the Parle Glucose Factory at Nagpur. They were given practical knowledge of the production of the biscuits in the factory and a documentary was shown to them on the production system of the factory. The students were also given some practical skills on preparing, packaging and labelling on production. The students also visited Raman Science Centre, where they were given the opportunity of seeing the galaxy through telescope. They were also shown the development of different inventions like telephone, railway, camera, windmill, typewriter, guns etc. The students were also shown skeleton of Dinosaurs. The students also saw the flower arrangement exhibition at Kusumtai Wankhede Hall at Nagpur and Rajsthani Craft Mela which gave them an idea about the handcrafts of Rajasthan. The students were given the skill of making earthen pots and woodworks. They were also made aware of the importance of small cottage industries which will help them in self employment.

INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDY TOUR ( 4th Feb. 2012) A study tour was organized by the department of History in collaboration with the department of Marathi and Environmental Study. About 50 students of the college visited Markendeshwar Temple of Gadchiroli, a site of great archeological importance. They also attended 85th Akhil Bhartiy Marathi Sahitya Sammelan at Chandrapur.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES Garba Utsav 8th Oct. 2011- Every year women-related programmes are held in the college. On the occasion of Navratra the students performed the Traditional Garba Dance. Six groups of dancers from different classes with traditional colourful dress performed the dance. Makar Sankranti On the occasion of Makarsankrati various cultural pragrammes for women were held in the college in collaboration with “Madhurangan”, a women forum of the

Marathi daily newspaper ’SAKAL’. Competitions on flower arrangements, Culinary art, Rangoli and Mehandi were conducted among the students and the members of Madhurangan. At the end , participants enjoyed the Anand Mela and they were given TIL-GUL.

SPORTS ACTIVITIES The Kabaddi team of the college participated in the Taluka level Kabaddi competition organized by district sports office, Wardha on 10th Aug. 2011 and the team won second prize. Puja Giradkar represented the college in Beach Kabaddi National Championship at Vishakhapattanam on 25th Aug 2011. The college Kabaddi team participated in University level Kabaddi competition and Ku. Puja Giradkar was selected for the University team and she represented RTM Nagpur University to play in the Interuniversity Kabaddi Competition held at Jalgoan. Puja Giradkar also represented the University team to participate in the Ashvamedh Competition held at Nagpur. A district level Yogasan Spardha was organized by the college in which students of different age group from Pulgoan, Arvi, Hinganghat and Wardha are participated. Ku. Pradnya Mankar represented our college in Inter Collegiate Yoga competition held at Madhavrao Wankhede Sharirik Shikshan Mahavidyalaya, Kamptee. She was selected for the University Yoga team and she represented the University at Inter University Yoga Competition held at Kurukshetra. Annual Interclass game and sports competition was organized in the college on 28th Jan to 29th Jan 2011. Amruta Pande, the sports person of International repute inaugurated the competitions. The winners of different sports activities were distributed prizes on the annual day function of the college. Puja Giradkar was adjudged the Best Athlete of the college.
