Unpicking CfE so you don’t have to

ActiveLearn Primary

Heinemann Active Maths has been created to give teachers and practitioners a helping hand in delivering Curriculum for Excellence. What makes it unique is the way the author team have expertly unpicked the broad CfE outcomes into much smaller and more manageable Heinemann Active Maths outcomes.

ActiveLearn Primary is the online hub of Heinemann Active Maths. With it you can quickly and easily find resources to complement your teaching, and allocate them to children.

Each Heinemann Active Maths outcome is represented by a Teacher Activity Card, and supported by a range of learning and teaching resources, giving you everything you need to introduce, practise, consolidate and assess CfE Maths.

In ActiveLearn Primary, you’ll find resources such as: PDFs of the Teacher Activity Cards Whole-class teaching software Photocopiable masters

Assessment

Teacher Activity Cards

The Assessment for First and Second Level gives you everything you need to assess in line with the CfE philosophy, but in a way that suits you. It’s available online within ActiveLearn Primary and includes:

The Teacher Activity Cards are available as a printed pack, and they are also online in ActiveLearn Primary. Each Teacher Activity Card covers a Heinemann Active Maths outcome, and is packed with teaching suggestions to inspire your planning. The great thing about the Teacher Activity Cards is that you can dip in and out of them as you wish, picking out the activities that will best suit your class.

Activity-based formative assessment - allows children to demonstrate breadth and depth of understanding in context.

‘Pick and mix’ activities from a broad selection of teacher-led, quick practice, and group active learning suggestions.

Summative assessment tests - help you track progress against Heinemann Active Maths outcomes; and provide opportunities for self-assessment. Diagnostic guidance for each summative test - provides information on common misconceptions and suggested activities to remedy them.

Professional Development Heinemann Active Maths Full-Day Course With a strong focus on the pedagogy of Active Learning and plenty of hands-on demonstrations and opportunities to explore the resources, this full-day course will give you an in-depth understanding of how to embed Heinemann Active Maths in your school, how to engage all your children and how to help them make progress in their learning using the principles of Active Learning. Each Heinemann Active Maths outcome is broken down into even smaller ‘Success Criteria’ to assess your children’s progress against.

‘Key Questions’ help you to assess your children’s knowledge at a particular point – supporting Assessment is for Learning.

Outlines some assessment activities to ensure children are ready for the card.
