OVERVIEW Acres for America is NFWF’s premiere land conservation program. In 2005, NFWF and Walmart established the program to conserve lands of national significance, protect critical fish and wildlife habitat, and benefit people and local economies. On November 17, 2015, NFWF and Walmart announced a 10-year renewal to continue this exceptional program’s work for another decade. It is anticipated that the renewal of Acres for America will be consistent in scope with the first 10 years. In its first 10 years, Acres for America funded 61 projects in 33 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The program has far surpassed its original goal of about 100,000 acres, with more than 1 million acres protected — an area comparable in size to Grand Canyon National Park. Through its competitive grant process, Acres for America has leveraged Walmart’s initial $35-million investment with more than $352 million in matching contributions, for a total conservation impact of $387 million.

The program’s priorities include: • Conserve critical habitats for birds, fish, plants and wildlife • Connect existing protected lands to unify wild places and protect migration routes • Provide access for people to enjoy the outdoors • Ensure the future of local economies that depend on forestry, ranching and recreation (continued)
