TCM – One of the key components in the Norwegian route to CCS implementation
RD&D CLIMIT programme
DEMO Test arena: TCM GASSNOVA IS SET UP TO SUCCEED WITH CCS
FULLSCALE
Financing – the key to crack the CCS business model The toolbox contains both technical and political tools… •
Support projects with initial subsidies for both OPEX and CAPEX.
•
Combining CCS and CCU and by that improving the profitability of the total capture project.
•
Reducing cost and risk by technology development
•
Emission limitations
•
A functioning quota system with minimum prices
•
Taxes on CO2 emissions

The 3 main roles of TCM
Run test campaigns with technology vendors on their proprietary technology
Develop a global competence center for CO2 capture technologies.
Run open scientific campaigns with non-proprietary solvent in collaboration with universities and research organisations
Competence development for our owners 18/10/2016 Technology Centre Mongstad

Run test campaigns with technology vendors on their proprietary technology:
The TCM offer for technology vendors:
• A One-stop shop where technical confidence is built through large scale demo • Unique infrastructure and skilled technical resources to ease route to market • • We lay no claim to intellectual property rights in the technologies • TCM offers an opportunity to get technology to market 18/10/2016 Technology Centre Mongstad - faster and cheaper

Run test campaigns with technology vendors on their proprietary technology
Four companies have already validated their technology at TCM and number five just started

Run open scientific campaigns with non-proprietary solvent in collaboration with universities and research organisations :
TCM has completed 2 scientific MEA campaigns and is planning a third campaign in 2017
• MEA 1 (December 2013-February 2014) in cooperation with Aker • MEA 2 (July 2015-October 2015) • MEA 3 is planned for 2017 with 3 main objectives: • CLIMIT project in cooperation with SINTEF et al, exploring mechanisms for emission formation (Aerosolve) • CLIMIT project in coperation with SINTEF/NTNU/Cybernetica to demonstrate predictive control of amine plants • Owners campaign focusing Technology on operational cost reductions for Amine operations 18/10/2016 Centre Mongstad 8
Results from the MEA2 campaign will be broadly shared at GHGT-13 in a dedicated TCM session Nov 15: Session 2A – Results from TCM (14:00-15:40)

Increased interest for TCM as a global competence center
H
TCM has developed a broad competence portfolio in many aspects of capture technology.. • Emission control and environmental chemistry • Approval processes with environmental authorities • Simulation and modelling of capture processes
Rollen til TCM • Analytical methods, online measurements and o Testkjøringer surveillance schemes for monitoring post-combustion Hvilke teknologileverandører har testet her capture processes o Globalt kompetansesenter o Nettverk • Operator training facilities for full scale capture operations o Litt om CO2Bio og utnyttelse av CO2 som ressurs • Veien videre for TCM Our intention is to share this as openly as possible with potential operators, vendors and research organisations 18/10/2016 Technology Centre Mongstad 11
The importance of cross border cooperation and networking is increasing • •

Technology Centre Mongstad
The bilateral cooperation between US and Norway has created opportunities for TCM.
•
The importance of test centre networking will increase.
•
All customers working with TCM have previously been working with NCCC (USA) and SINTEF (Norway)
•
National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) in the US is strongly supporting CCS and is pointing out the importance of TCM in scale-up of emerging technologies. 12
TCM and SINTEF formalizes CCS collaboration • Cooperation agreement formalized during MM4 in Bergen May 10, 2016 • Aim to act in co-ordination in the market, and where appropriate negotiate for joint projects
• Further strengthening our offer to the market as "one stop shop" for CCS • Together we offer R&D and testing facilities from the molecular engineering level to testing and optimization at an industrial relevant scale

The interest for Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) is increasing Combining CCU and CCS has the potential to increase profitability and support the business model
TCM is currently exploring how we also can contribute and support CCU processes 18/10/2016

A pilot facility for algae production under construction at TCM
Goals: – A national facility for algae production – Research and development on algae production – Build competence for a future fullscale facility
Summing up – the road ahead • Develop strategy and scenarios for best future utilization of TCM for the nest 4 years • Active business development towards technology suppliers and new emrging technologies.
• Explore relevant CCU opportunities • Further development of cooperation with SINTEF / NTNU and other Norwegian actors.
• In cooperation with the Gassnova, contribute to further work with Norwegian full-scale projects where this is desirable. • Continue to develop international cooperation in the test center network. • Further increase scientific participation in future research campaigns 18/10/2016
