Audit, risk and compliance professionals in high demand Active hiring within asset management and consultancy, as well as requirement for expertise in financial crime, market surveillance, compliance testing and audit, look set to continue into September 2016. This is according to Lynne Roeder, Managing Director of Hays in Singapore. Roeder opined, in an article on the Singapore Business Review, that the supply of compliance experts was extremely limited. As Singapore tightened regulatory requirements, Roeder thought that more “hybrid roles arising within internal audit and compliance” would emerge. The challenges and implications for compliance are discussed in the Hays Journal and Accenture’s 2015 Risk Study.
Top paying jobs in Singapore According to the Kelly Singapore 2016 Salary Guide, professionals in accounting, banking and finance had the highest paying jobs, alongside professionals from Information Technology (IT), sales and marketing, as well as healthcare and life sciences sectors. Echoing Hay’s assessment, recruitment specialist Ambition also highlighted ongoing demands for professionals in audit, compliance and risk. According to their salary survey, experienced professionals can expect an upwards of S$250K per annum.

Biomedical manufacturing firms project better prospects for 2H 2016 Despite some contraction in the manufacturing output of the biomedical manufacturing cluster in June, the medical technology segment expects export demand to remain strong in the second half of 2016. This is according to the business expectations report of the manufacturing sector released by the Economic Development Board (EDB) in July. In the recent Economic Survey of Singapore Second Quarter 2016 released by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) in August, Singapore’s economy grew by 2.1 percent in the second quarter. In its growth forecast for the rest of 2016, MTI estimates the economy to grow at 1.0 to 2.0 percent due to global events such as the slowing Chinese economy and Brexit. On the biomedical manufacturing cluster, MTI said that output of the pharmaceutical segment increased by 4.9 percent and output of medical technology segment rose by 8.2 percent. The employment forecast for July – September 2016 according to EDB continues to look positive.
