Accordion Prop Supplies*: • 1” thick pink foam sheet • Foam poster board • Utility knife • Black 8 1/2” x 11” foam sheet • Color duct tape (one color for the base and different colors for decorating) • Any color foam sheet that matches the accordion • Hot glue gun • White glue • Buttons

Directions: 1. Cut out five 5” x 10” pieces and one 4-1/2” x 9” piece from the pink foam sheet using the utility knife. (For safety purposes, we recommend wearing leather gloves when using the utility knife. Never leave the utility knife where children can pick it up.) 2. Place two of the 5” x 10” pieces back to back and cover with duct tape to create a solid colored block. Repeat to make a second block. These pieces will be refered to as accordion front and accordion back. 3. To make the keyboard base, cover the 4.5” x 9” piece and remaining 5” x 10” piece together using the duct tape. Center the smaller piece so that there is a 1/2” lip around three of the four sides, one side should be flush as shown in Figure 1. When duct taping pieces together, make sure the tape follows the surface of the foam.

6. Hot glue the two 1” x 4-1/2” pieces to the sides of the keyboard base, as shown in Figure 3. accordion front

7. Hot glue the 1” x 9” piece to the keyboard base. 8. Cut out twelve 3/4“ x 5” pieces out of the white foam poster board using the utility knife. This will create the white piano keys. 9. Place white piano keys from Step 8 along the top of the keyboard base so that they are evenly spaced. Leave a slight gap between each piano key.

10. To create the black keys cut eight 3/4” x 3” pieces out of the black foam sheets using the utility knife. 11. Hot glue the black keys to the white keys as shown in Figure 4. 12. Cut a 3” x 7” piece out of the colored foam sheet to create a handle. Hot glue this piece Figure 4 centered on accordion back. Glue so a hand can fit through the handle.

Accordion Bellows Directions: 13. Print out the template provided on regular 8 1/2” x 11” paper. 14. Fold template along the dotted lines with the art facing down. Keep the pages in order. 15. Line up all of the pages together and use a binder clip to clip one side to keep the pages from shifting while you glue the other side. 16. Open the clipped pack of papers to the last page and apply a small stripe of white glue along the blue dotted line labeled “glue”. Do not apply to much glue to avoid it spilling over. See Figure 5 for an example. 17. Place the page that follows on top of the bead of glue and glue together. Repeat until all of the pages are glued together. Allow piece to dry before gluing the other side.

20. Hot glue the other end of the bellow to the back of the accordion back/the piece with the handle.

18. Once all of the pages have been glued, trim the shorter ends so that the bellows measures 10” in length.

21. Allow everything to dry and decorate with colorful buttons and tape.
