About the Destination

“Forget the jacket, tie and urban attitude". This could be Mazatlán´s slogan. A fun and culturally-inclined beach destination, without the hype. Mazatlán is a forever favorite of those fleeing from the cold to a warm and cozy place to spend their winters. Gifted with beautiful tropical islands sprinkled along its coast, an impressively-long and attractive boardwalk or Malecón, miles and miles of golden sandy beaches and blue lagoons, Mazatlán truly earns its nickname of "The Pearl of the Pacific." When planning your vacation, trying to decide between a beach vacation and a cultural travel experience, Mazatlán is one of the few destinations in Mexico that offer both of those options. Its Golden Zone, developed in the ´60s, offers a wide array of hotels, shops, bars and restaurants scattered along its lazy beaches. Meanwhile, in Old Mazatlán, you´ll find that life goes on just as before all the tourists came to admire its open market, churches and public squares in the Historical Center and its surrounding areas, where you´ll always find friendly people that are willing to help you enjoy your stay. And, if you plan your trip right, you might be able to celebrate Mazatlán´s grandest public celebration, its traditional mardi-gras, or "Carnaval International de Mazatlán". It is considered as one of the three best mardi gras in the world by Forbes Magazine, where locals feast and dance in the streets to the rhythm of the traditional Sinaloan Banda music, and enjoy the massive staged shows and fireworks throughout its grand parade, featuring impressive floats that cruise all along its Malecón, not to mention its majestic crowning ceremonies. Mazatlán locals are very proud of the restored mansions dating back to the 19th Century in the Historical Center. Imagine the architectural combination of Miami Beach-pastel colors, scrolled wrought-iron balconies and lazy New Orleans-style patios. This Colonial architectural style is aptly-called Neoclassical Tropical. Foodies will fall in love with the variety of restaurants found in every nook and corner, from palapa huts on the beach to candle-lit terraces overlooking the ocean. Shrimp are served fresh, and talented chefs have come to master traditional shrimp dishes.

About the Destination Foodies will fall in love with the variety of restaurants found in every nook and corner, from palapa huts on the beach to candle-lit terraces overlooking the ocean. Shrimp are served fresh, and talented chefs have come to master traditional shrimp dishes. Enjoy them breaded with coconut, marinated in lime juice (Ceviche), sautéed with garlic and butter, flamed with Tequila, bathed in "Salsa Diabla" or simply cooked. Mazatlán is easy to get to. By car, by air or by sea. Lodging ranges from small, family-owned Inns to luxurious hotels in the Golden Zone, where many offer gourmet dining and spas.

Its Weather and Seasons Located just South of the Tropic of Cancer, Mazatlán´s weather is semi-tropical all year-around. Temperature ranges from 77 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit. With an average of 300 sunny days a year, you´ll always have beach weather here!

Restaurants To wander into the endless variety of cuisines offered in Mazatlán, is to relish in the most exotic and creative dishes brought to you by local chefs daily. Treat yourself like monarchy as you savor all the variations of Mazatlán´s local and regional dishes, such as Aguachile, sea scallops, Ceviche or its famous Pescado Zarandeado. Mazatlán is the Capital of Shrimp and-all-things-seafood, with the freshest and tastiest seafood the ocean can offer - like our sea scallops, like none other on earth! – and they´re the best excuse to show-off our traditional recipes, and delight the most demanding palates. Proof of this is our Guinness World Record for the Largest Shrimp Cocktail in the World. Sinaloa is "Chilorio" land - patrimony of our nation- , as well as the Fish Fair during Holy Week and an endless variety of dishes that each local restaurant offers, all making Mazatlán a place full of aromas and flavors par excellence. Important Tourist Sites •“El Rosario Pueblo Mágico”• Founded in 1531 as the Villa del Espíritu Santo de Nuestra Santa Fe, this town settled in this vast, rich land, with such prosperity that it later became the richest mining territory (during the 18th Century) in all Northwestern Mexico. This wealth developed its own cultural growth, one which has left its indelible mark, with its architecture and traditions that, to this day, distinguish its character. A banner of faith, history and local art, its church Templo de Nuestra Señora del Rosario is embellished with its carved Salomonic Baroque-style facade, dating back to the 18th Century. Its awe-inspiring altarpiece is also 18th Century Baroque, entirely covered with 23 and 24-carat gold leaf. This church´s original building was located in the older part of town, but the mine digging under its foundation structure, in 1933, lead to its moving, brick by brick, to its current location. As a memorial to the renowned local singing artist Lucila Beltrán Ruiz, the Lola Beltrán Museum exhibits a collection of 35 evening gowns and accessories worn by the famous singer from El Rosario during her concerts, TV programs and movies. Half-way through the town lies the lagoon called Laguna del Iguanero, inhabited by several species of turtles, iguanas and ducks. It has a small island at its center, accessible by a hanging bridge.

•Cosalá, Pueblo Mágico• Many swear that this town is magical, and that you can feel it just by strolling its narrow streets, walking through its colonial-era buildings and breathing its air; or by taking a sneak-peak into its rich history. In the middle over 250 historic buildings, dating back to the 18th Century, you´ll find the Santa Úrsula Parish, which, besides being a historical treasure and locally cherished, it still holds valuable pieces of religious art. . The display of architectural wonders continues, with the Chapel of Our Lady of Guadalupe, City Hall, the Mining and History Museum, the Casa del Cuartel Quemado, and an endless number of old homes and unexpected nooks that speak of its ancestral legends everywhere you look. Among hills, streams and abundant flora and fauna of the region, Cosalá offers a vast variety of recreational choices. The Mineral de Nuestra Señora Ecological Reserve is only 5.5 miles from town, consisting of a deciduous tropical forest. This park organizes guided visits to learn more about its flora and fauna. One of its most important exhibits is the Macaw Aviary, the second largest of its kind in the country. You´ll also find excitement and adventure with its four zip-lines, one of them is 2,460 feet-long! You´ll be overcome by an entire repertoire of emotions at the sight of the Vado Hondo Cascades. Located 7.5 miles from town, this sculpted natural spa is made up of three staggered cascades. You can cross over them on a 1,312-foot zipline that culminates on the hanging bridges over ancient Montezuma Cypress, Tepehuaje and Fig tree-tops. Located in the middle of dense vegetation, streams and transparent water holes, this the ideal place for swimming, naturewatching, hiking and family day-trips, since it is equipped with a children´s playground, BBQ grills and zipline experts.

People routinely ride its streets on horseback, and it´s also common to see freshly-baked bread vendors under a brightly-colored umbrella to ward-off the sun.
