Along with all the themed activities, don’t forget to experience the water sports center, Splash. Traverse through calm lagoons then take to the sky on the new Flyboard, paddle in a clear bottom canoe for fantastic views of the Maldives archipelago or take to the ocean on a new paddle boat. James Duigan is here to keep us Clean&Lean and busy away from those Easter eggs, and with a new outdoor Technogym ARTIS fitness area, we have no excuses. Exciting culinary happenings include Belgian Chocolatier, Laurent Gerbaud who is on island to create the most amazing Easter treats, whilst cooking up a storm in the kitchens, new Chinese Chef Zhou will feature his cuisine in FIRE at Reethi Restaurant and our new Chef de Cuisine, Chef Charles brings with him a new delectable menu at Tapasake. We have all the favourite dishes, plus new delights at Chef’s Garden, the Beach Club and Fanditha. Appetizing bites, certainly not to be missed. PILATES REFORMER TRAINING

The Flyboard is the coolest way to have fun on the water. Fly over the water, under the water, and have complete freedom to fly freestyle without the risk of getting hurt. Once you get going, you are only limited by your own creativity. As a very simple and light device, the Flyboard is very maneuverable and you will be starting to learn tricks easily.

This piece of resistance exercise equipment, designed by Joseph Pilates, is one of the most popular exercise systems in the world. It consists of a platform that moves back and forth along a carriage. Resistance is provided by the exerciser’s body weight and by springs attached to the carriage and platform. Is the Pilates Method right for you? Pilates is a form of exercise which emphasises the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement. All exercises are developed with modifications that can make a workout safe and challenging for a person at any level.

The Fitness Centre, adjacent to the Spa, offers guests a unique partnership with international health and wellness expert, James Duigan. To continuously inspire guests in achieving maximum training results, the Fitness Centre has almost doubled in size, allowing more space for versatility for both personal and small group training sessions. Indroducing a delicious new Chinese menu by Chef de Cuisine Zhiming Zhou. Hailing from Nanjing, China, Chef Zhou has spent the past 28 years perfecting his craft in various locations around the world. Specialising in Cantonese, Szechuan, Huaiyang and Shanghai cuisines, join Chef Zhou on his culinary journey at Fire, Reethi Restaurant.

Due to its innovative formulation, ECOBIOBALL starts to biodegrade immediately on being submerged in water and between 36-48 hours the internal core, comprised of 100% natural fish food, is released into the water where it can be eaten by fish.

Born virtually with wings, both Andrew’s parents worked in the airline industry and he has travelled all his life. He left his home, Sweden, for hotel school in Switzerland and then embarked upon a career that took him all over the world. In 20 years he has worked in 11 different countries, from Europe to the States, to the Middle East and Asia but there’s only one place he has ever returned to and that is the Maldives, this is undoubtedly One&Only Reethi Rah’s gain.

Jean Noel began his journey at One&Only Le Saint Géran, Mauritius many years ago and subsequently has grown up within the One&Only philosophy and culture. Along this path and before joining One&Only Reethi Rah, he has had the opportunity to work at One&Only Ocean Club, Bahamas; Mazagan Beach Resort, Morocco and until most recently One&Only The Palm, Dubai. As Residence Manager, Jean Noel beams that he is “passionate to be of service to all our notable guests, while ensuring they have memorable One&Only moments to tell.”

Lisa has worked in the hotel industry for over a decade, finessing the front office operations for five star properties around the world, from the Great Barrier Reef to London. In her role at One&Onlyy Reethi Rah Lisa has a daily target for her team and herself: “To find new ways to make a guest’s stay extra special in order to entice them back to our beautiful island again and again”.

Joseph was born in Budapest, Hungary and grew up in Australia. After working throughout Australia, he has been living the island life since 2006, working in a range of high profile luxury resorts in Fiji, Maldives and Thailand, returning recently to back to the Maldives. He is driven to succeed and to ensure guests receive the highest quality of food and service that they’ve come to expect. Joseph has developed a thorough understanding of local language, customs and of course food.

Ismail was born in the southern tip of Maldives and has worked in the hospitality industry for the past 13 years. His expertise, skills and passion lay within food and beverage operations. He is very goal directed and a driven leader who is able to develop and motivate others to achieve their targets. Quick to grasp new ideas and concepts, Ismail is innovative and creative, always ready to blow away our guests at every turn.

Husham Mohamed or Tony, as popularly known in the industry hails from the North of Malé Atoll, Gaafaru. From a very young age Tony developed a passion for the seas, which led him to start working at Biyaadhoo Island Resort in 1999. His enthusiasm to discover the wonders of the sea led him to pursue his career further, joining various water sport centres at four different Maldives resorts, before starting at One&Only Reethi Rah in 2005, 9 years ago.

Multitalented, Aishah is the lady behind the scenes designing the Villa experience for our guests. With previous experience in Human Resources, Aishah found her calling in Housekeeping, enjoying the creativity, the attention to detail and the many challenges of operational work. Aishah leads the biggest team on the island and like her staff she is discreet yet incredibly skilled.

Sebastian Lochbrunner joined the newly created concierge team this Summer as Concierge Manager. He grew up in Munich, Germany and has been working in the hospitality industry for more than ten years, in various destinations around the globe: China, Middle East, Europe and North America. Sebastian is passionate about service, and has been since the day he started working in the hospitality industry.

Our Dutch resident tennis coach Rick was playing tennis not long after he could walk, taking up the sport at the young age of 5 years old you could certainly say it was in his blood. He continued through college and played tennis for the University of Louisiana, after his schooling he joined the tennis circuit and embarked on a journey playing all over the globe. Rick was previously ranked in the top 10 in Holland.

Cristina joined One&Only in February 2011. Before working in the hotel industry in 2010 she worked as a preschool teacher for 4 years in the Philippines. Cristina graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree of Hotel and Restaurant Management and took an Early Childhood Education for another year to become a teacher. Since then she has taught children ages 3-7 years old. Cristina loves working with children and is passionate about making the kids happy.

With more than 15 years of experience in the field of Spa therapy, Ozgur is more than skilled and knowledgeable on how ancient and new therapies can affect and be of benefit to others. Ozgur is from Turkey where he did his initial training, and worked for luxury resorts and hotels such as the Ritz-Carlton or Jumeirah in Azerbaijan.Ozgur’s passion is to see the positive effect that soft therapies such as the ones practiced at the Spa by ESPA have on all three-levels of an individual: mind, body and soul.

Sunday, 5th April Reethi Rah Easter Parade & Egg Hunt It’s time to get down to the serious business of the traditional Reethi Rah Easter Egg Hunt, using the Scarecrow’s smarts to guide you, join the quest along with the Easter Bunny and other One&Only friends to locate the Easter Eggs, while the mini-hunters forage for eggs, parents and friends alike are entertained from the side-lines enjoying a chilled glass of champagne and some delicious treats while all the hard work is unfolding. Truly a magical time creating everlasting joyful memories for all.

1-5th April Chocolatier Laurent Gerbaud is back Renowned Belgian Chocolatier Laurent Gerbaud will be back on the island. He is a sure favourite and it is no surprise that his chocolate making expertise goes hand in hand with our Easter extravaganza. Laurent will be creating his exquisite chocolate creations, marrying with fruit and various exotic spices. Shona’s extensive training in strength and conditioning, Chinese massage and an ongoing BOS in nutrition, have enabled an eclectic and holistic approach to health and fitness, which is clearly evident in all of her training sessions.

Dr. Buathon Thienarrom is a Holistic Practitioner from Thailand with extensive knowledge and experience in alternative medicine, and Chinese Traditional Healing. Her healing story began with a simple desire – for her and her family to have a healthy life – but as her journey went from the studies of nursing, mental health and psychology to Taoism, health sociology and Tibetan medicine, she gradually discovered what holistic health truly entailed and eventually created ZenNaTai, a unique approach to holistic healing that means ‘the state of freedom and emptiness’.

Jafaaiy means gathering in the local language, Divehi, and indeed it is, a gathering of passionate artisans of taste and Epicureans, such as Mark and his wife. He is given ‘carte blanche’ on the menu and so is the Sommelier on his choice of the wines. The duo create together a perfectly matched dinner where each element compliments and enhances the other.

From the Bahamas, Charles discovered a passion for Japanese cuisine at the age of 18 while studying Culinary Arts at Johnson and Wales University in Florida. Charles also perfected his training with a course at Sunrise Global Chef Academy in Singapore and Suan Dusit International Culinary School in Bangkok, Thailand. With strong experience at Four Seasons in Miami and Nobu in Paradise Island in the Bahamas and Dubai, Charles has become an expert in Japanese Cuisine and is now sharing his passion with guests at One&Only Reethi Rah.

Born in Syria, Chef Sarhan Hanna took over Fanditha in September and now manages the kitchens of the most western tip of the island. Coming from a family of culinary excellence, Chef Sarhan mastered Arabic cuisine from an early age and has subsequently traveled the world ever since, cooking for nobility and the high earners of the UAE to Yemen and Pakistan. Chef Sarhan’s favorite dish is ‘Kevvah Del Laben,’ a traditional Lebanese lamb cooked with yogurt and spices.

Executive Pastry Chef, originally from South of France, Montelimar, Yves has worked in many exotic destinations around the globe. He has lead teams in Indonesia, Russia, Benin in Africa, Kuwait, Dubai, Iraq and Scotland. Yves’ desserts can be found throughout the resort and has a team of 12 who have trained hard together for the past two years. Yves’ own training came from working with prestigious ‘maisons’ such as Fauchon and LeNotre, the most renowned pastry shops in the world.

At a very early age, Chef Zhiming Zhou was so impressed by a meal prepared by a family friend, that he knew the hot kitchens of Nanjing would be the place to be. “The food looked and tasted amazing, I wanted to be like him!” he said. He started working at a local hotel specializing in dim sum, while also completing his 3 year cookery studies. At this time Chef Zhou developed his hankering for travel, which led him to various major cities in China, covering Szechuan and Cantonese cuisine, all of which he attained mastery proficiencies in.

A Mind in Full Colour Christopher Hogan - Artist in Residence

Christopher Hogan’s dynamic art classes are particularly sought out by returning guests to One&Only Reethi Rah. The Australian abstract artist offers far more than a painting lesson; “People pick up a paint brush for many reasons”, he observes, “often it is the first time they’ve managed to find time to tap their inner creativity since school, it’s all extremely therapeutic.” The affable Hogan also ensures classes are terrific fun and they’re clearly gratifying, after a class there’s a delighted ‘conga’ parading through the lobby with their work, a stream of dancing colour. Colour is the key feature of Hogan’s work, which is inspired by marine life. Of his unique, yet distinctively recognisable style of painting, he jokingly comments, “I was driven to abstraction. There were enough artists painting ‘wellbehaved’ landscapes and marine images without me adding to the list. Rather, I feel I contribute a contemporary slant through my depiction of these macro images. In essence, I reduce simple images to a series of spots and stripes”. The resultant compositions are striking paintings and sculpture that invite multiple interpretations from the viewer.

They use acrylics which are user friendly and have a particularly intense colour. Aquamarine undoubtedly dominates the local scenery but Hogan draws out memories of the countless other colours that flick across the retina. Seeing colour is both a physiological and psychological response to light waves, certainly there’s plenty for the mind in Hogan’s classes; this is an experience as uplifting as the exultant palette surrounding One&Only Reethi Rah. There was a time when holidays were about indulgence: glorious, gluttonous, lie-on-your-back-for-fourteen-days indulgence. They were about eating and drinking and lying, supine, under a raging sun. But change is afoot. Head to One&Only Reethi Rah’s gym at 8am and there’s a quiet, revolution taking place. Treadmills purr and yoga mats are outstretched whilst people heave and huff with the wake of the sun. Here a place in one of the beachside TRX classes is as highly coveted as a sea view table at Tapinyaki; whilst a Bodyism personal training session may just be the most enduring memory of your trip. How did this happen? How did health and fitness become such an intrinsic part of the holiday experience? To understand, you’d have to go back to 2007; a prerecessionary time when designer handbags were the ultimate expression of luxury and taste and holidays were about hedonistic rather than holistic pursuit. We had a lot of fun. We drank and we partied and we behaved with the same reckless abandon as pretty much everyone else we knew. Until we stopped and looked around and saw the ravages of that abandon. As a nation we were exhausted. Both physically and spiritually. Suddenly an investment in our health and well-being seemed the serious place to put our time and money. You can the see this shift on the streets of the world’s major cities. In London, spin classes sell out within minutes; New York juice bars are the new NYC coffee houses, whilst everywhere from Sydney to Stockholm performance wear is the weekend uniform of the wellness brigade. A commitment to health is the now new sane status symbol, and taking a holiday that builds on that commitment the ultimate expression of discipline and dedication.

Now the purpose of a truly restorative holiday is about nourishing body and mind. We are a nation of chronic overworkers, who live our lives in a constant state of adrenal overdrive. What then could be a bigger luxury than having time to recharge and reboot? One&Only Reethi Rah has been quick to respond to this new clientele, guests that I and the magazine I edit have taken to calling the ‘wellthies (men and women who view true wealth as an investment in their wellbeing). General manager, Mark Hehir, is himself a fully signed up member of the ‘wellthy’ set and as such has set about turning the resort into a genuine wellness utopia; a place where health and rejuvenation is just as important as fun and relaxation. Wellness experts from across the land have been coaxed to the spa and gym, including James’ Duigan’s Bodyism one of the world’s most innovative and luxurious personal training systems. There is rock climbing and football and bikes to ride round the island for when the chauffeur-driven buggies become an extravagance too far. And, perhaps my favourite bit, a 6km running track that takes in One&Only Reethi Rah’s most secluded and romantic corners. There are healthy ‘clean and lean’ options on every single menu and pre-prandial juice shots to be taken before breakfast begins. Sure you can come to Reethi and stay up until dawn, sipping cocktails under glowing trees but you can also come and take true time out – and what could be a bigger luxury than that?
